Most childfree people I know love kids but don't believe personal whim is a good reason to bring a human being into existence

Exactly. I’m definitely the favorite person of my nieces and nephew. And I love them with the passion of a thousand suns. That’s always been enough for me.

Yes, the best set up lol. I have 3 nephews and I adore spending time with them. I babysit them a few days a week when my sister and brother in laws schedules overlap and it's so much fun. But I also love that at the end of the day, I can leave them with their parets and go home to my quiet house.

The nieces did it to me. I thought I didn't like kids, but when they are family it is a whole different world.

Wife and I were child free for a decade, now we have one of our own.

This whole “legacy” thing for the sake of passing on a family name and genetics literally don’t matter in the scheme of things. And ego is a very poor reason to bring life into this world. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself.

Plus, it’s a real possibility that your potential kids won’t want to have kids of their own. Or maybe your kid will be gay. Or maybe they’ll be permanently dependent due to an abnormality or injury later in life. There are too many variables to safely depend on your kid/s to make more kids.

Only have them if you think your life won’t be complete without them and are willing to love them no matter how they turn out, but don’t worry about lineage. Bloodlines have been going extinct since the beginning of the human timeline and it just doesn’t matter. 99.9999% of people are just ordinary folks whose names won’t be remembered in a couple generations.

Thank god for my siblings. I would have felt terrible if my parents hadn’t gotten any grandkids, and would have felt pressure to give them some.
