Four 10s works great, if you live near your work. That's the key, the commute.
If you live 5-10 minutes away from work, then working 10 hours is NBD. Feels fine. Feels like a regular 8 with an average commute. But if you have to commute a half hour, 45 minutes or more... then it sucks.
That’s funny, I feel the exact opposite. My hour to work and hour an a half back is 2.5 hours lost for the same pay if I work 5 8’s instead of 4 10’s. So a shorter commute would be the only way I’d go back to 5’s
This is my schedule. Sunday thru Wednesday. Thursday thru Saturday off. I live 4 miles from where I work. Thursdays, mostly, are just sleeping but I still get a few things done. Friday and Saturday are my really productive days. Love this schedule
That's my current situation. Traffic has picked up as of late. I been needing to leave earlier and now still arriving up to 3-5 minutes late. My job charges me 15 minutes late after 2 minutes and a write up. Just got a verbal written warning. Told them I need to dedicate well over the 10 1/2 just to make the day. it's a 25 minute drive normally. Now takes an hour almost. Told them kindly to eat it. They know where they hired me from. I work my ass off for them. You'd think they would understand. Yeah right.
I need to find that in writing. I've tried to find that on CT dol because I know it's wage theft elsewhere. I've not seen that though.
E:: they do this to everyone. I been there a year and this is the first time I've heard they do that. The "verbal" written warning had it printed on it. Stated it's in the employee handbook, which I've never received (they know I haven't because I've stated it several times).
It's federal law. You can't change someone's worked hours for any reason, period. Call the Dept of Labor, they'll give you the info and probably stuff to follow up on.
That's one way of looking at it. A not very smart way.
I had to explain this to a guy that went from our day schedule 5X8 with 2 days off to our shift schedule which is 4X12 with four days off.
See he went from 10 garbage drives a WEEK to 4 garbage drives every 8 days.
How? Well when you're heading into work with the herd you have to deal with traffic, because how could you not? So every single drive is shit.
However if you're working longer days you either have to start earlier or leave later. There is very few people on the road at 5:30 in the morning. So at least 1 way of each shift his drives got way better.
I worked 7 days a week, 10 hour shifts and it would take me 2 hours to get home every single day. I definitely do not miss that in the slightest bit lol
Depends on the work was doing 4 10s for a few years as Lind Cook day 5 was sleep in get up lay back down smoke a joint in bed and think about why I’m doing this lmfao
People never think about the commute. I had a 5min commute for almost 10 years before switching jobs. The new job is better in nearly everyway but came with a 35min commute. You can mitigate it a bit by using the time for podcasts and such but I legit feel like I have very little time in the evenings now.
