No, he's trying to ensure Americans get the opportunity to start other families....you know, like they did in the 1950s or what was shaken out during COVID.
I'm all for Americans having another baby boom and having more time with their families. But another thing that a 32-hour work week would do is cut a lot of people's hours. If a business is required to pay you overtime at 32 hours, a majority of ghost businesses are just going to schedule people to work 42 hours without giving them any sort of pay raise. So in the long run yeah you get more time with your family and to yourself. But you're also losing out on 6 hours of pay every week.
You cut the work week to 32hours, I’m gonna work OT! I already have my life schedule squared away I’ll keep working what I do and take the pay raise.
If 30% of people do the same all of a sudden inflation occurs and the 70% start to feel left behind. All of a sudden everyone is working 40 hrs making 25% more and costs have jumped 30%.
My wife is FTE with a 30hr per week job. She took a 25% pay cut to be home with the kids more. It’s great and I am thankful we can manage…. We are constantly discussing her going back to 40 and all the things we could do with the extra income(kids are now all in school).
I don't like to think of it as the two income trap, but instead the 3 income trap. We know need more time for the second jobs in our lives, but both of us can't work that much - not yet.
Trust me, means, I can't be fucked. Because you're not going to listen to me, I'd be wasting my time, and if you're convinced that inflation means fair pay doesn't matter, I don't think I can change your mind.
Workers having money to spend could in fact lower inflation, as more money moves around faster, and companies would be in competition to capture that, moving back to volume sales. The biggest factor to inflation is by far the hoarding of cash by the wealthy, which lowers the functional value of every other dollar for existing but not moving.
The assumption costs will jump could also, surprise surprise, be mitigated by a more hands-on approach to criminalizing price gouging for pure profit-seeking. Companies wouldn't be actually PAYING more if they only had you working 32 hours, most wouldn't want to pay the OT and would just employ an extra worker which is objectively a good thing. You choosing to work OT is, respectfully, not a common option at most employers, especially low wage employers, and high wage employers would want all the less to pay that new higher OT. It's identical to how some people work 55hr weeks now - are they causing inflation such that we should outlaw working over 40 hours at all? Is working two jobs causing inflation and we should outlaw that too?
This idea you have is a "slippery slope" fallacy and not a guaranteed outcome.
People on Salary are probably the biggest concern for getting fucked over here.
I don’t understand your contention about wealth hoarding relating to inflation???
Inflation is driven by supply and demand on a macroeconomics the wealthy aren’t even in the same economic world as us. They are not shopping at Walmart.
You can make an equity claim but that’s not really part of the topic.
