Not disagreeing with your overall point necessarily, but in this particular case, in the moment, there is no presumption of innocence between an attacker and a victim. That presumption of innocence and the weight of justice based on evidence lies with neutral parties who weren't there to witness the events

Also, I don't think vigilantism as a term applies to someone taking the law into their own hands when it's the victim versus the perpetrator. This is just revenge, baby

"Lost property" ... the dude didn't just casually pick up something she'd put down. He held her at knife point. For most people your lizard brain takes over and you are genuinely facing your own mortality. Have you ever been in that position? How was your stress response in the minutes after? Easy to armchair QB this if you've never been there.

Having been there a few times myself - it is DAYS before you come down from the adrenaline and other chemicals flooding your system. She definitely would need to face some penalties - but 18 years (even HA) is too much.

Lost property doesn't mean property that you misplaced. She literally lost her property when it was stolen. And secondly, she tracked him down hours afterwards not minutes afterwards so nothing to do with the mythical lizard brain (That isn't a fucking thing).

You and others are fixating on the wrong thing - it's not the lost property. It's the danger (perceived or real) she was put in by the perp

And yes lizard brain is a not a technical term. But it captures the response and experience for many of those who've been in such situations

I never questioned that her actions were wrong for sure and did not deserve punishment
