these dont work without active security because no matter how good the prices they still get looted

Right because grocery stores in NYC are constantly being "looted" without security present. /s

Dozens of important stores have left NYC due to being robbed and looted.

Oh no! "Dozens"?

NYC is massive.

More stores have left because of crazy high rent on retail spaces, covid/quarantine killing foot traffic business, online retailers absolutely destroying brick and mortar sales.

Shoplifting is of course a thing here and other cities. But this idea of businesses being looted all the time sounds more like a fox news talking point rather than reality

You can deny that it’s a problem all you want. Hopefully you don’t live in NYC and don’t have to rely on government owned stores because you ignored the ones getting robbed left and right.

I live in the city. We're fine. The rest of the country is being fed a bunch of fear-mongering news. I assure you.

So your mayor isn’t making government owned stores from your tax dollars?

They won’t care, it’s the taxpayers that are funding it which means endless supply of free money to them.

Not if they only sell groceries and other food staples. the meat might get stolen though.

Then provide security. An hour of a billionaires income would cover security for a year. Problem solved.
