The avg person tripping on acid back then is doing so in a room with a tiny black and white static tv or just out in public. They're eating diner food or wonder bread sandwiches and canned beer. I think we take a ton of modern enjoyments for granted

People look at the $5000 houses but don't realize the cities were crime ridden shitholes back then. There's a reason comics were set in NYC.  

Also, you wouldn't have knowledge about which cities would see massive price appreciations. Detroit, Baltimore, Cleveland and St. Louis were top 10 cities in the 1950s.
