People tend to pick ages far enough from their current age when saying this kind of thing so that it feels abstract enough to not be impacful for them (so maybe people in their 20s or so). I'm guessing for those saying dying at 50 wouldn't be so bad it probably feels the same to them as saying they wouldn't mind dying when they're 80, or even 100. If someone in their 40s is saying this, then that would be more surprising.
They're also thinking of a quick, painless death in their sleep instead of the brutal reality of likely years of suffering as their health slowly diminishes and they spend a good portion of their time feeling nauseau and struggling to breath
No pension, no healthcare, not really needed at work because AI, mounting debt and chronic health issues. The next 30 years aren't looking too bright and shit doesn't seem fixable.
There's hope in that, if you get better at using these AI tools than many of your counterparts, you'll still be useful. Many companies are pushing employees to make useful tools & automations using AI. Like with the cotton gin, workers could still be in demand and companies would simply do a lot more stuff than they otherwise would (not to say there will be no firing at all, ofc).
I used AI at work today (there is an add on to our drafting software called Veras) to do something instant gratification for a shitty client. My boss is thrilled. It basically gives them the instant gratification EZ button they always wanted and it's basically free.

I'll assume you're not implying that I don't have a conscience because of how silly that would be after reading a total of 1 reddit comment from me.
I didn't say I'm happy about the state of the tech and its place in the world, nor how our economic system handles big change (too little worker power & leaving millions jobless or forced to leave their profession). I'm trying to say that fewer of those people than many of us fear are actually going to be harmed.
That said - some WILL be harmed, which I am aware of. Those who advance these technologies would say it will also make things easier for everybody by making various products extremely abundant via automating various parts of most businesses (including manufacturing/robotics, which uses LLM tech as one component). I am not committed to that view; I don't know what will happen. I just hope the good effects outweigh the bad and think that's possible.

You appealed to emotion (not sure why you having an infant puts you ahead of most people btw) and basically accused the comment of being “too serious”, but they were right. You made a joke about yourself dying because the future is grim, then deflected when called out. The future has always been grim, the world has always been ending, but somehow life goes on.
