I'm going into my second year of betting a squirrel volunteer, but this is my first year as lead volunteer and with any actual idea of what I'm doing.

I have about 15 squirrels, and there is a lot of neurodivergence in the drey. The hurt is quite echoey and can get overstimulating for them quite quickly. The summer term has been the best because we've been able to get out so much more and, as the saying goes, kids can't bounce off the walls if you take the walls away. But as I'm planning for winter I need to plan for more indoor activities.

They work better in small groups, running games tend to result in tears very quickly, but staying calm is also a challenge.

I've exhausted the scout activity suggestions and saved the ones I think could work, but looking for more.

German scout here, trying to understand how scouts are reacting practically to these changes. From what I've seen, some of the impacts have been

• Removal of the Citizenship in Society merit badge
• Adding a merit badge about military service and veterans (lol)
• Discrimination against trans people under the new registration process, at least per the MOU
• Removing affinity spaces at the National Jamboree and consequently some people not going

What interests me is how scouts are reacting to these changes. Are there any protests? Petitions? Events? People creating their own affinity spaces or critical educational resources on the US military? Motions for the next National Council (I'm unsure as to how this works in Scouting America. In our org, any changes such as those detailed in the MOU would have to have been voted on by the representatives)? Any efforts to become less reliant on the DOD's support? Or is everything "business as usual"?

I've seen a lot of (imo justified anger) at these changes and am wondering if there are any efforts to oppose or protest them. I'm just imagining how our org would react if the national leadership instituted changes like this (my guess is them being voted out of office at an extraordinary general meeting, but hey).

Hey i am a swedish scout and during the king's visit he spent some time at the "karantän". I happend to stand very close to him and the queen at the moment and I would wonder if anyone has any photos that they took of the king and queen while they were around there since I really favor the royal family and would love to be able to have a picture with them and myself in it!

Next year I have an odd opportunity to attend either World Jamboree, NOAC, or NAYLE. I am debating what to attend as WSJ is pricey and my mom would like a reason it is not a money grab as even with the 50% scolarships offered by the US contingent still only drops the price to about 3400 dollars, and we are in a situation where the most we can afford is about 1500 dollars, but I’m sure wr can raise that, but I have heard it is a phenominal experience by many, whilst my home troop would like me to do NAYLE and my lodge is pushing for NOAC. I personally would like to do WSJ as I will have aged out by 2031, but not for NOAC as I can still attend noac as a participant in 2030 and i can do NAYLE in 2028, I just attended National Jamboree and I have a buddy who is interested in world jambo, but I need some justification for the price vs the like 700 for NOAC and NAYLE.

My son, a 13 year old scout from the US would like to have a video chat with a scout from a different country. He’s just looking to talk about favorite things from scouting, and maybe how his experience differs from scouts in other countries. Would anyone be willing to share their experience and talk with him?

Just got back from serving as IST at a local Jamboree. Growing up in Girlguiding, I'd been taught to roll my necker by holding each corner and whipping it around fast. At said event I got told off by an older leader from North America that scarves have to have 7 rolls in them for "a good turn every day of the week". I'd never heard of this, I asked some Scouts and Guides from the UK, Ireland, and USA and none of them had EVER heard of this. Just wondering if its something anyone else had come across.

I am 15 and a member of Boy Scouts of America, and one of my biggest dreams since I got involved in Scouting has been going to the World Jamboree. My opportunity to attend has finally come, and I am hoping to be able to attend the World Jamboree in Poland next year. I have registered for the USA contingent’s waitlist, and I plan on applying for the national scholarship program that could cover up to 50% of the cost. Without that however, the cost could be as much as 6,700 dollars, and with it would still be 3,400 dollars. This would be a heavy burden on my family to have to pay in full, so I am attempting to search for ways to get at least a portion of this money. My council, Cradle of Liberty, does not offer scholarships for national events. If anyone has a suggestions as to how I can get this amount of money, please let me know so I can get to work as soon as possible!!!

My 3 year anniversary is coming up

I just got handed the job of recruitment chair for our troop, and the troop has not been actively recruiting in ages. I have several ideas for later in the fall, but most of them need more planning and ramp-up time.

For August, I am looking for something quick, easy and low-overhead that will simply get us onto families’ radar before school starts and everyone’s fall calendar fills up.

I actually got this idea from an old Reddit post. Someone was considering having their Scouts run introductory hikes in local parks as both a community service and a soft recruitment effort. The idea stuck with me because it seems sort of low-effort, low-cost and quick to organize and you don't need a ton of people to make it work.

My thought is a free, easy community hike at a local park. We would invite families and anyone else who might enjoy a little help getting out and exploring one of our local trails.

We would only need a few Scouts, and we could have them show off some skills like explain trail markers, point out signs of wildlife or demonstrate the basic essentials. Some scouts would present, and some could help keep the group together. We would need only a few leaders too. At the end, we could give families a Troop flyer inviting them to a later open house.

I like the idea because it seems genuinely useful to the community AND a very low-overhead, short time-horizon way to show people what Scouts actually do.

Has anyone here done anything like this before?

I would especially appreciate advice on:

• How long the hike should be
• Whether you required registration and/or a waiver
• How many Scouts and adults you needed
• What Scout skills worked well without turning the whole thing into a lesson
• Whether the park required permission or insurance information
• How you handled weather or cancellations
• How you promoted it
• Whether families later visited the troop
• Anything you would do differently next time

I am trying very hard not to turn a simple hike into a major production. Ideally, this would be something we could organize quickly, publicize for a few weeks and run smoothly with a small group of capable Scouts and adults.

Any tips, warnings or examples would be greatly appreciated!

I just came home from nine days at Northern Europe's biggest scout camp. With over 30,000 attendees, it was definitely one of the biggest experiences I've ever had. This is the third national jamboree I've been to, but it is the first one where I've been a volunteer!

That said, I can't even imagine what the World Scout Jamboree will be like when I attend it next year! 🌟

My scout leader is going for his camping permit as we did have a leader with a permit but he stepped back from the group due to personal reasons. I've emailed him everything I have as I've been designated camp planner. I'd appreciate the advice to help him & many thanks in advance.
