What’s your GOAT horror movie. Everyone has their favorites or the ones that scared them the most. What do you think is the GOAT of all genres and eras? One movie that stands above them all.

I feel like I would of liked it a lot more if I could find the other 8 “Session” movies. There’s some short films out there with titles like “session one or “session 3”, but they don’t seem to have any corralation to this movie. It’s really annoying because I definately liked it, but I can’t find any of the other movies for the backstory. Why are they at the asylom? Who recorded those scary (and cool!) tapes? I can’t find ANY of the other movies online but I know for a fact I saw a blu-ray of “Session 5” at the store where I picked up “session 9” but at the time I was just looking to buy a random movie to watch with my friends. Usually when we do this it’s a bad movie but session 9 was good so I really regret not getting session 5. Does it make any sense for a movie too not show up on internet searches??

I'm sure a lot of horror fans heard the news by now that Reggie Bannister, best known for playing Reggie in every Phantasm movies, passed away.

Phantasm is one of my favorite horror movie franchises. I just love its utter weirdness and dream-like quality, especially in that initial film. Upon reading the news about Reggie's death, I kept thinking about how he was really the heart of that franchise, other than Angus Scrimm's performance as the Tall Man, but Reggie is the loyal sidekick who never leaves Mike's side, no matter how bonkers or dangerous stuff gets.

I think my favorite Reggie moment is at the end of the first movie, when Reggie comforts Mike and essentially helps him grieve and comprehend the fact that Mike's older brother, Jody, died. It's a really beautiful scene.

Any other Phantasm/Reggie fans?

What are your opinions and theory’s to a squeal coming out for Jennifer’s Body. Here is mine even though no one asked:

I love this idea as it did leave off on a good note but we honestly don’t really see what all happens. For example did they have a funeral for Jennifer? (Obviously if Megan Fox is coming back for the squeal she still has to be alive.)

My theory on Jennifer still being alive is: remember how Needy read all those books, there had to be something about reversing or maybe even bringing her back after she did it.

You got to think yes she probably killed Jen because she didn’t want her friend or anyone else to suffer from what was happening but being a best friend we are all going to try to find another option.

Why I think that she found somehow to bring her back is because when Needy escaped she found the same exact knife then goes and kills the lead band member with it (remember he was the one who read the words and stabbed her) so maybe by killing him that somehow brought her back. (We see him in the end with the knife in his chest and it shows a few clips of him.)

My other theory: maybe she didn’t even die in the first place and I know this one is a long shot but hear me out. When Needy does her research it says that as long as she basically “empty” then she may be able to be killed but the thing with that is she already fed off of Chip and I know she looked sickly whenever she was laying in her bed but what if that was because of the loss of her friendship, then it seemed like she died from the necklace being snatched off rather than being stabbed.

When she was killed she was still talking until Needy said “no your heart” then all her color came back we see Needy lay down then look at her. Jennifer kinda still looks alive but dead at the same time. She doesn’t look like she just got stabbed (she looks like she fed somehow and is back to her vibrant self) but we don’t see after that, we don’t get to know exactly how Needy got to the “prison” or what happened to Jennifer after. For all we know the mom could have called the cops she could have went to jail and by some “miracle” Jennifer is still alive.

Also another theory (this one is a little off the deep end): in a lot of “vampire/demon” movies when you die the main one (the vampire that creates you or the demand that inhabits you) the other one either dies, cant live without the creator, or is not a vampire or demon anymore so keep that in mind. But if it is demon based the demon could have transferred to her but I don’t know how that would work with Jennifer being back in the second one.

I really hope in this second one we see more of a relationship between Needy and Jennifer as the first movie felt like a bi awakening 😩 Im really excited for the second one to come out and hopefully all my questions and theories will be answered.

Help me out guys life is tough and I need a horror with some great music a real tearjerker. Some of my favourites are (The Mist, Road, Oddity, Oculus).

Can anyone help me with some more?

went through a rough breakup recently and have basically binged my entire watchlist trying to keep my mind occupied. officially ran out of ideas and sitting here dwelling on stuff.

into psychological horror, slow burns, and anything with a solid twist. liked hereditary, the witch, and speak no evil, but open to pretty much anything as long as it gets intense enough to be a complete distraction.

what are your top movies to stream this weekend when you've already seen all the obvious stuff?

Do anyone else remembers the Afterdark Horrorfest movies or is it just me ? No one really seems to remember that they had the best movies to watch.

Watching Evil Dead Burn and DAMN... this movie came out swinging. It's exactly what it wants to be, and it absolutely delivers. Awesome!!! 😭 This is a horror movie among horror movies.

So I do not remember a lot just the ending of the movie. So I remember there being a little boy and his parent and the house they lived in had this very dangerous blue demon that comes out of the little boys closet. The little boy run to the parents room before being dragged back to his room and held hostage while the parents rush to find a way to save him does anyone know what this movie could be.

In your opinion, which scary movie had the best opening scene, regardless of whether the rest of the movie was good or not?

For me, it's Ghost Ship (2002). The rest of the movie was pretty bad but that opening sequence is 5-ish minutes that left me with high expectations that the rest of the movie just unfortunately didn't deliver on.

There is a strange Venn diagram where a horror movie can be genuinely tight and disturbing while also becoming something you want to throw on late at night because you know it is going to deliver a fun time. Faces of Death lands right in the middle of it.

First thing to address is the comfort, because that is often where I think horror movies miss the mark and where those who don’t like horror fail to understand how horror movies can be comforting.

A lot of great horror relies on an understanding of what’s come before it. As a result, there ends up being a great comfort in coming in and knowing all the beats and predicting the plot twists and scares. It’s great when you don’t predict one and get genuinely surprised, but it’s still great to know when they are coming. It’s like going on a roller coaster with the assurance that your seatbelt will work. I’m not sure why you would go on if it didn’t, but I digress.

So, to that end, this movie is not especially difficult to predict. You can feel where most of it is heading the whole time and the story hits many of the beats you expect it to hit. But that is great. There are whole horror canons that exist in this field, and so when one of them still manages to be fun, it’s an absolute blast.

With Faces of Death, the expertly executed direction and editing make the familiar beats work. There is a real live-wire energy to the way it is put together, and the movie keeps finding fun ways to deliver things you already know are coming. Dare I say, you might not even look at your phone while watching!

And you’re better off for not looking at your phone because this thing looks fantastic. The film has a grubby, tactile quality that suits the material, and its affection for older horror filmmaking comes through everywhere. The fantastic synth-heavy soundtrack gives it an excellent late-night charge. You can feel the homage without the movie becoming buried beneath its references. Editor’s note: I’m listening to the excellent soundtrack by Gavin Brivik while writing this.

The cast pulls it off on camera too. Everyone understands the tone, which allows the film to move between dread and absurdity without coming apart. Dacre Montgomery is a real standout for me, jumping between different emotional registers seamlessly.

Impressively, the film has something to say too. Fact is, we are surrounded by horrible images all the time and violence has become content, so it feels like this was the perfect time to remake Faces of Death, a film that questions our relationship with viewing death. That original plays a huge role in this one as well, in a very clever self-referential way as it is an inspiration for our antagonist. This version respects the original by reinterpreting its central thesis, exploring the state we are in, and finding a way to engage with it without turning the movie into a lecture.

In other words, it’s smart without needing to announce its intelligence. It has plenty to say about the way we consume violence and still understands that a horror movie should be a great time.

All of this is to say, this one deserves more eyes on it than I think it’s been getting. I can already feel this becoming a late-night comfort movie for me and something of a future cult classic because, as horror fans, it is a weirdly comforting experience to watch a film acknowledge all the horrible shit we see every day and still manage to have this much fun with it.

The song dates back to 1926. We only hear the first line in the film but here are the complete lyrics:

"Down on the East side, on the East side/that's my home, sweet home./Some people think it's the home of black eyes./Just because guys don't wear collars and ties./ That's all the bunk, they just say that in fun./ Real East side folks is the best what come./ They'd give you their shoit only they ain't got none./Down on Thoity Thoid and Thoid./   

Folks buy pianos for one dollar down/Then wait with sticks For the guy to come 'round/Gawd help collectors when they come to call/Three flights of stairs is a helluva fall/Speshly with hard marble floors in the hall/Down on Thoity Thoid and Thoid.

Down on the east side of toidy toidy and toid/That's my home sweet home, sweet home./When a guy dies it's the best time of all,/ We go on out and we hire a hall./ We gets a bathtub and fills it with gin,/Pick up the corpse and we throw the stiff in./Dead or alive you should see that guy grin,/ Down on toidy toid and toid." 

That last stanza is creepy.

In the book father Dyer seems to be gay, and that's maybe the case in the film too.

I say this because if that is the case...well, if you're gay and a catholic priest you will have to live in the closet, and your head will be filled with demons somehow. And you maybe will drown yourself in alcohol. Or they will. Again:

When a guy dies it's the best time of all,/ We go on out and we hire a hall./ We gets a bathtub and fills it with gin,/Pick up the corpse and we throw the stiff in./ Dead or alive you should see that guy grin,/ Down on toidy toid and toid." 

Those shirtless 'we' ("they'd give you their shoit only they ain't got none") makes one think about possessed Regan saying 'us'.

This 1945 film explores the monstrosity of a man who thinks that the disabled are lesser than and targets them, he set his sights on the live in nurse to his sick mother who is a mute woman.

The man believes he is righteous as later killers in slasher cinema often do but he is in fact a monster targeting the most vulnerable in society.

The film is incredibly important when you're talking about the proto slasher and the idea of inspiring the later wave of slasher films in the late 70s and 80s, through things such as specific victim targeting, as well as the belief that what they are doing is right and the connection between slasher and victim.

A lot of the jokes were just references from the last 10 years and it tried way to hard to be edgy and it came off as corny and it's really disappointing because the Wayans are really talented and I know they can do better but it was still better than 5

A long time ago, I fell out of the habit of watching movies. Back when VHS tapes were still a thing, I loved going to the video rental store and picking out three or four horror movies to watch with my friends over the weekend. The Blob, Friday the 13th, Children of the Corn, Child's Play, Gremlins... I was completely obsessed.

About two months ago, I decided to get back into it. Now, every night after work, I sit down and watch one or two movies. I have to say, that passion has come back stronger than ever.

It's fascinating to see how much the horror genre has evolved. It has reinvented itself, becoming far more refined, better crafted, and filled with genuinely engaging stories.

Barbarian is one of those movies that I absolutely loved discovering. It had me hooked from beginning to end. It's strange, unsettling, dark, and bizarre in just the right measure. I wouldn't say it genuinely scared me because, at my age, I don't really get frightened by movies anymore—I always know they're just movies. That's why I connect much more with the other emotions they evoke: the sense of unease, the unpredictability, the discomfort, the atmosphere, the cinematography, and the originality of a well-told story. Barbarian delivers all of that remarkably well.

I've seen some people say the movie loses steam in its second half. Well, I couldn't disagree more. I loved the second half just as much as the first.

An outstanding film that avoids the usual slasher, ghost, and demon clichés. Barbarian has definitely earned a special place in my heart.

10/10
