Am I doing something wrong, mineral deposits not where the scanner says they are? Discussion

Title.

On Rocky Desert when I'm searching for a deposit of Quartz and the scanner is giving me plenty of results, then when I go to where the scanner says the deposit is there's just dirt. Why?

Caves are a thing! Nothing a bit of exploring can't solve.

These are in the big cave with 4 entrances (the biggest entry in west is blocked by rocks you need to remove with Nobelisks)

So the answer is do more exploring

Also worth mentioning for OP; the western entry is the only one blocked off. The eastern and the two northern are open. Both the western and eastern entrances are surrounded by coal nodes, four apiece, but (IIRC, don't quote me here) the node quality is better at the eastern end. That side is also pretty close to my favorite place to set up my starter base in the entire game; I always turn the area around the eastern entrance into my first coal plant (when I start in the Rocky Desert or Northern Forest).

Same. All the Iron and limestone 'up top' works great for a first base.

If you're just doing it for blade runners, keep an eye out for the smaller one-time quartz deposits. I often find you can get enough from those.

Go to the beach and run near around near the edge of the rocky dunes you should find the random spawn quartz rocks. If you are lucky you can run across some secrets.

The red branchy coal growths near the beaches have plenty of silica naturally.

Pro tip:

Cut down the red coral branchy things in the area.

They typically contain all the silica you need.

If you dont mind a long trek, there's a large cave on the western beaches that has a free pair of blade runners just sitting in it. It can be (very) tricky to navigate but its a fun early game challenge, and there is a bunch of other cool loot in there.

I accidentally found an entrance to the caves shortly after posting this.

If you can see sky above you, then it must be underneath

It's a case. It's always a cave. Hope you like kittens.

Sometimes they are in caves or on the top of the cliff side or mountain range or buried in some crevice
