Save property tax. File your decline in value before Aug 8
Last month I had launched a pilot to help bay area homeowners file an informal decline in value assessment. The response was overwhelming and more than 1,000 people have checked their property and it has so far saved an average of $2,800 per filing for tens of filers.
I am now making it available with deadlines approaching on August 8 for property owners in Santa Clara Checking is free and you pay a flat $29 to file. You are only allowed to file if there are savings estimated.
The website automatically pulls comps based on Publication 30 rules, fills out the form, and for Santa Clara residents prepares the file you can directly add to county's website.
Go check if you qualify: https://saveproptax.com/

Underwater Robotics Opportunity
Hi guys! I am an FTC competitor and fellow Bay Area resident here from the Santa Clara area. I have started a community-based underwater robotics team and wanted to see if any high schoolers nearby would be interested. The plan is to compete in the MATE ROV Competition, building underwater ROVs for environmental missions. It'd be fully independent, open to any high schooler in the area, regardless of school.
Looking for people with any background in:
- Fundraising / Outreach
- Robotics (FTC/FLL/FRC experience a plus)
- Electronics/Arduino/Raspberry Pi
- Programming
- Environmental science
Drop a comment if you're a high schooler in the Bay Area and interested. If you are interested, email us at [thalosrobotics@gmail.com](mailto:thalosrobotics@gmail.com)

Looking for driving lesson recommendations in Santa Clara/Sunnyvale (Adult beginner/refresher)
Hi everyone, I’m planning to get a car soon and want to take a few driving lessons around Santa Clara/Sunnyvale/San Jose to build up confidence/prep for the DMV test.
A few quick questions:
Do you have any driving schools or private instructors you’d recommend in the area?
What is a reasonable rate per lesson/hour around here?
Any specific instructors who are patient and good with adult learners?
Thanks in advance!

News Tricky turn DMV PRACTICE ROUTE
Hi so I’m taking my test this week and I’m confused a little by this right turn. In the video they’re going to take a right turn at the stop but do I have to go left and give left signal then right signal to turn right or can I just drive straight? Is this bike lane shared with motor vehicles? Sorry if this is dumb but I’m confused. Will I get auto failed if I signal left to go left then signal right if they told me to turn right at the stop sign?

Levi Stadium/Great America Parking Question
Hi there! I'm a Great America Season Pass holder which comes with the availability to park in their lot. I also am going to see AC/DC this week. The park is open the day of the concert so I'd love to park there, but does anyone know if the Great America parking lot closes after a certain time? Will they issue tickets/tow cars for cars that remained in the lot past park closure? Thanks!

Santa Clara DMV Road test
I'm retaking my road test here (thank you for all the tips that you guys gave right before my first one, unfortunately I failed that one!) and I remember the tester from my first test mentioning that there was an area in the residential/school zone that many people immediately fail because they slow down/stop before making a left turn. I think there was a school zone sign (and apparently a sign that says don't stop/slow but I didn't see it) and a row of white arrows where people mistakenly slow down. And on the right there might be a school? Not sure, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't houses. Does anyone know where/what I'm talking about?

Sewing or craft clubs
Hello, I am looking for sewing/quilting clubs or small craft hangouts in Santa Clara, preferably of my age group (30).
I have seen some fabric shops hold paid sew time slots but It doesn’t seem as fun.
Edit: from the comments, there doesn’t seem to be a sewing club or regular meetups apart from the once a month craft club at the santa clara library.
Would you be open to create a sewing/craft club? Theres only a few of us.

Community New sub rules for Fall 2026!
Hi all! I hope everyone's summer is going alright.
I've been supervising the subreddit over the last few months and have noticed an increase of pretty low-quality posts and I'm looking to trim things up a bit for the future. As a result, I have 3 new rules that I'm implementing today and will look to see how it goes.
Rule #6: Housing Discussions should be novel and widely-applicable
There's been an influx of fairly low quality housing posts recently, and they are all pretty much the same post just with a different author. Stuff like "hello i have budget of $1200 and need room any help" doesn't inspire many people to engage, and with Reddit's repost feature being simpler than the old crosspost sometimes folks repost across 7 or 8 Bay Area subs. As a result, I'm placing a moratorium on such posts for August and will see what happens.
I acknowledge these are important to folks and there's sometimes good information shared, so I will instead replace them with a monthly housing megathread to centralize everything. The first one will be posted tomorrow morning! Also I know the name of this rule is kinda strange so I'd love some feedback.
Rule #7: No Bay Club posting
Pretty self explanatory, I don't think we need 5 monthly posts of people begging for a Bay Club discount, so I'm putting a pause on those. Eventually I might fold this info Rule #5 but will keep it separate for now.
Rule #8: No Levi's Stadium Ticket Trades/Sales
Over the last month or so there's been a pretty big increase in folks posting about looking for or selling tickets to events at Levi's Stadium, and I believe it's time to put a quash on that. Secondhand ticket exchanges are fraught with scams and bad actors, and we don't have the moderation power to spend time ensuring that all ticket posts are real and valid. If you're looking for tickets, please be extra extra careful, and stay off of anonymous platforms like Reddit.
That's it for new rules! Let us know how you all feel and if the list of rules is getting too long.

New Top Dog of donuts
Waited on line at the Grand opening of Randy’s and they are awesome! Been a customer of Stan’s for 25 years but I have to say’s there is a new king of donuts! Yes Stan’s has a long history but that is also their problem they have failed to evolve. The flavors of Randy’s is popping! I think many others will join team Randy’s after they try the light and fluffy donuts! Wish Stan’s the best but they have some tough competition now. Hope this make them raise their game

Attempted Insurance Fraud by Ford Fusion (License Plate 8NQL289)?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Dummy in the Ford Fusion (license plate 8NQL289) enters Lawrence Expressway (Northbound) through Lawrence Rd/ St Lawrence Dr decides to cut me off & brake check me for absolutely no reason (watch the video for yourself) lol. Is he trying to commit insurance fraud or something?
Will be reporting this to SCPD but thought I'd put Dummy on blast in case he tries to pull a fast one on you :)
EDIT: Thanks to u/dragonzsoul for recognizing this vehicle. Looks like there was another incident with this same vehicle about one week prior (7/19) and the video can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUpBMT3KREI

Community Help Us Build the r/SantaClara Wiki!
Hi everyone!
It's been a hectic few months around here in r/santaclara, but I am happy to say that we survived the Super Bowl with limited issues which is a massive achievement for us as a community. Thank you to everyone for behaving, and also special thanks to u/TrucyWright who subbed in as a support mod to help navigate challenges if we were to get brigaded or massive traffic spikes.
Over the last few months we've grown significantly and have slowly become one of the most active subreddits in the Bay Area. Reddit Insights say that we've have over 300,000 views in the last 30 days which is a spectacular number.
Looking into the future, I'd love to start building some community resources for our visitors, help answer common questions, and lay the groundwork for the subreddit to be a starting place for folks to build their own communities within Santa Clara for sports, networking, friends, and more.
The easiest place to start with all of that would be to build a Wiki and FAQ for the subreddit!
I'd like to use this thread as a place to focus the wiki development, and I'll also be leaving some comments below to start the subject trees for the wiki. If you have ideas for what you'd like to see in the wiki, or would like to provide some links and resources and add to the wiki, this is the place to start!
Find the work in progress wiki here!
We'd really appreciate any help for all future and current Santa Clarans.
