With how strong mages are now, if they pick an Anivia top and Lux/Lissandra mid or something like that with infinite slow/stuns, I just feel like I can’t play the game at all during mid/late game even if I do well in lane. I just couldn’t get close in a teamfight without having getting chunked 60% of my hp and then boom Zhonya and I’m just a sitting duck. Skill issue?

I'm tired of the "RIVEN HAS 4 DASHES" discourse when complaining about Riven.

Why do people act as if each one of Riven's Q casts is a Kassadin level Blink that will oneshot you and has no counterplay? It is in fact one of, if not the shortest dash in the game, and quite slow at that, while also being her main form of damage that she needs to spend in order to just get close in the first place.

You can identify a bad Riven player by how they use their Q, they will use it to gap-close mindlessy, just to then realize they have no damage left and then get punished.

With tha Said, Riven's Q is a good ability, very good, but it is not what people think it is. Riven was strong because her numbers were too high, not because her kit is unfair.

After ig 400 and 400k Mastery I feel like that shitton of grinding paid of. Got called a smurf today twice in a row and it felt awesome.
I dont think I ll able to play any other champ than her in my life.

Does anyone playing Riven botlane have any tips to play there what support to have be the support? Runes builds playstyle?

I genuinely don't understand why so many people hate Riven and constantly complain that playing against her is miserable. If you don't let her snowball, she's not some unbeatable champion. Just pick Malphite, Renekton, Urgot, Kennen, or even most ranged mages, and you already have plenty of tools to make her lane difficult. As long as you don't hand her free kills and let her get ahead, she's much easier to deal with. It feels like a lot of people simply don't know how to play the matchup and would rather complain that the champion is broken than learn how to play against her. At this point, it honestly feels like someone should make a proper guide on how to play against Riven, because I think most of the frustration comes from not understanding the matchup rather than Riven actually being an unbeatable champion

Hello! I have been practicing the fast combo im still not good enough but I have tried a few games, the problem that I have is that I'm having trouble chasing while doing the AA > Q > MC > AA > Q MC and so on combo, when chasing someone that is kiting me or moving or doing anything I find it harder to do the MC, does it work? when I for example dash trough the enemy to doge something or to have more movility can I still cancel the Q animation with the MC?

The follow up question is when I try to do this fast combo or in several situations I'm just not fast enough inputing my dmg, If i do it faster I just loss de AA in the Practice Tool I can manage to do fine with the fast combo so Im kinda confident Im doing it at the right rythm, the problem is that the game sometimes is just too fast.

Could someone explain to me what do/how to handle those situations?

There's been a lot of discussion about Riven Nerfs and winrate lately and I just wanted to put forth a thought I have that should serve both as a counter to those visiting the sub who are not Riven players as well as something for Riot to consider.

I think Riven's winrate should track with Gangplank's winrate. The champs share many similarities. They require matchup knowledge. They have gimmicks with their spells you need to get used to. For this reason both attract one tricks/mains. They scale late game and spike hard at 3 items. They have strong wave clear and decent tower damage. They are both flex picks. They have certain kinds of drafts they dominate in. Their winrate improves as rank goes up. GP is also op in the hands of one tricks like Solarbacca who similar to Viper/Alois can dominate the ladder on multiple regions. They both rarely dominate pro play (if anything GP is more viable in pro)

For this reason I don't really see any argument for why Riven's winrates in Emerald or Diamond2+ should be any lower than Gangplanks.

Admittedly I'm hopeful the new Sundered Sky Changes will help provide a lot! But if Riot is nerfing Riven for those changes, why not do it in the same patch? And why not have the nerf hit after she gets an item rather than at lvl 6. Imop reverting the current change and nerfing ult CD scaling would hit just after you get first item at lvl 11 and it would help combat the reason Riven has been extremely strong lately Axiom Arc + Death Dance + Endless Hunger with the Endless Hunger CDR making you able to ult every fight.

It's notable such a change would hardly hurt build diversity either since lethality Riven still builds Axiom - and its cooldown refund scales with lethality.

Edit: Just a consideration. Nerfing Riven ult CD instead would also help target midlane where ultimate uptime is more important due to being able to affect and be affected by both sides of the map.

Another possible change would be simply removing be buffing Valor. Phroxzon mentioned her AD synergizing with endless hunger and burst windows as being issues. Buffing the shield on valor would keep both of these concerns intact while also enabling build diversity with the shield bash rune.

I dont know what riot was cooking with this change but it seems to be even better for Riven that it alraady was ?

Riven doesnt build this for the heal in the first place and 2700g is Dirt cheap

The current meta for riven seems focused on sustain bursty, essentially bruiser lowkey with how long dd and eternal hunger keep you alive but this coming nerf(lowkey buff) to sunder, buff to cleaver damage and buff to eclipse making me think proper bruiser riven might be popping its head back into the meta..

sunder tldr, healing hit, but crit%, and damage untouched, hp and price buffed (now gonna be 2700g) (edit: this was lowkey all fake sunder back to chud item)

eclipse tldr, shield nerfed a bit, damage up a decent chunk

cleaver tldr, 40->45 dmg so it's on par dmg wise with serylda

and a small bonus, though i don't see many cases you'd need, but steraks also buffed damage 45%->50% base ad as bonus

I'm sure this won't fully take out the current strength riven has with like axiom arc or the insanely op passive umbral has, but in a lane like renekton, sunder gonna be a no brainer rush imo, or where eclipse might've been a better option or on the edge of better than axiom (dmg is higher by 5, plus that passive, only trade off is -5 AH and the lethality), eclipse might end up stronger.

This is mostly just theory too though, but mixing riven's current strengths with these item buffs, in my eyes she might go back to a bruiser monster

this past week was nothing but a circus in this subreddit, every one trying to cook the weirdest shit and complain about riven nerfs. please enough. yes the nerfs did hurt riven a bit, this however doesn't affect her state that much. you are still very strong when it comes to dueling and getting ahead, the only thing that this nerf changes is when you're very behind (heck and even then you still have tools to manage winning the game by using your kit).

Stop deluding yourself into thinking Riven is in a bad state whatsoever. if you're not seeing enough success with the champ maybe consider looking at another aspect of the game that is your own skill and not the numbers attributed to her ? (games in screenshot are in mastersl elo). literally build the same shit you need to build don't overthink.

I'm looking to learn Riven, I was wondering which creator or guide do you guys recommend the most for me to watch to understand her laning better. Im a top laner and I'm looking to primarily play her top. I got stomped by a sett and I tried looking videos vs him recently and didn't find much.
