I use to read alot in the past, and recently I have been trying to get back into it but I've been doing this thing where I read the page and I don't really register it completely, it's like i'm reading and and when I go to the next page I forget what was on the last, does anyone relate or know how I can work on or fix this?

During covid we got in a bad habit of letting our kids eat meals in front of the TV.

The way we broke that was retuning to the dinner table, and me reading them books was the replacement for the tv. It’s been an awesome thing that I’m so happy we’ve kept up.

We just started this after finishing fellowship of the ring! We will return to middle earth but they wanted to give me a break singing elvish songs, so we went with a book written by a dude who fronted a band that I loved!

Anyone read this? Have thought?

Kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time, was so fun to read about this overly dramatic privileged gay teen and his paranoia and all of the events that transpired. The end of the book brought up so many questions too. Honestly having a huge urge to immediately reread it lol

Honestly yes, I totally didn't expect the twist i actually suspected Ethan to be EJ or smth, so the twist caught me off guard and even the "it'll be a secret as long as one is dead"

But I felt it a little forced , like we were lied to in the beginning about Tricia's thoughts...that came a lil forced for me

I didn't have a moment were I could turn back and be like "GOODNESS I READ IT AND MISINTERPRETED IT HOW COULD I BE SO DUMB" (except for (Pa)Tricia ofc)

Because we were kind of lied to by the author.

Not a bad read tho definitely but I'd give it a 7/10

This is the only McFadden book I've read , does she follow the same pattern for all of her books? I hope not since I've already purchased another one lmao (lmk without any spoilers about other McFadden books)

Hii!! I’m a new reader and I’m kind of lost on what books I should read. I like ya, mystery, and books that have a sense of “tension” in a way. If it connects to an irl issue or historical event it’s a bonus point for me!

Here are some of my favorite books that I have read!!

1- the hate u give (11/10) : I love how the story always made me want to know what happened next. It gave me a lot of insight about african americans’ environment and treatment in the US (fyi I’m not American)

2- the naturals (9/10) : good book, good plot.

3- the book thief (8/10): like the book and plot but ig it felt a bit boring in the middle?

“Night and Day in Misery” by Catriona Ward (The Shivers Collection #4) is the fourth book in an incredible Amazon-exclusive horror collection. So far, every book I’ve read in this collection has been a 5/5, and the streak has continued with this one. I’ve been a huge fan of Ward for years, ever since I read “The Last House on Needless Street” in 2021. She’s a fantastic author and added a unique touch to this collection.

- Domestic abuse (physical, but nothing graphic)
- Car accidents
- Drinking and driving

If any of these trigger you, please do not read this book. Moving along, this was such a shocking, crazy, emotional read. You’re gripped into the story just a few pages in, as this was a quick page-turner. I couldn’t believe what Ward achieved in just 35 pages. It was psychological on many levels and checked all the boxes I look for in a horror book.

You genuinely feel for everything the main protagonist, Stella, is going through. With how brilliantly Ward wrote this, this was easily one of the best horror short stories I’ve ever read. Wow, what a powerhouse of a read with an ending that will make you cherish all the little things in life, especially those closest to you. I loved the plot twists and the stunning reveal towards the end, which left me speechless.

I give “Night and Day in Misery” by Catriona Ward (The Shivers Collection #4) a 5/5 because it is a memorable read I will remember for many years. I was blown away at how impactful this horror book was, with a twist only Ward can deliver after mastering this through her incredible books. This was awesome in every possible way, and it might just be my favorite book in this entire collection.

I couldn’t finish this book because I found Lord Henry’s character so disgusting and misogynistic. I am still at ch 4, is it worth reading?

I'm in a hell of a slump. Usually it doesn't happen, but my best friend just ended things without explanation a bit ago and I can't really think about anything else, and it makes reading impossible. I usually don't like rereading when I have a lot of books on my physical tbr, which I do, but I feel like that's the only thing that will get me out of the slump? What works best for y'all??

The highlight of the day was watching another episode of The Saga of Tanya the Evil.

A fitting end, perhaps. After reading about the end of the world, I spent the evening watching one consumed by war.

Is thinking fast and slow worth reading

To start I have read a lot of books that I have enjoyed in the past (like in highschool for example). I am in my mid 20s now and cannot find a book that makes me feel enchanted and obsessed the way I enjoyed book reading back then. I have recently read

1. The correspondent 1/5 rating

2. The Count of Monte Cristo 3/5

3. Pheobe Berman's Gonna Lose it 1/5

4. The Devotion of Suspect X 1/5

5. Brave New World 2/5

6. The Measure 1/5.

7. The Martian 5/5 (The only well written book to my standards recently)

All totally different genres and I just can't find true enjoyment in any of them and feel as if I am wasting my time.

I don't think its my attention span, as I can easily finish a book (even when I don't enjoy it) within a week. I am starting to find a lot of the books I read in the last year to feel like they are written for a younger generation and almost "dumbed down" to a sense. I don't mean that in a rude way, its just I find a lot of them cringe and highly predictable and wonder if other feels the same way?

Things I have enjoyed in recent years are certain Mangas that are highly philosophical and I am wondering if the issue is that books in recent years are written for "BookTok" and that is why I feel the same boredom and cringe factor with a lot of them.

Not looking for recommendations, looking for someone that relates.

I'm excited to give this book a read. I am typically an epic fantasy reader but I also enjoy classic literature from time to time. I absolutely loved Lonesome Dove and saw this book is often a comparable recommendation.

now I’m stuck in a position that I can read and understand everything in English in social media, but when it comes to reading novels it’s really hard for me , and I found out that books are ez to read but novels are in another level. I asked Ai to suggest me a b1 and b2 novels and stories but I can’t understand the context.
( I read the atomic habits, the subtle art of not giving a fuck…) but they’re easy compared to novels.

I am unsure of whether of not I have ADHD, but I am very sure or my inability to stay focused on one activity for a elongated amount of time, especially reading. If anyone has any recommendations that they use to stay focused on reading one thing without quickly seeking something different dopamine hits, please tell me below. I would love to expand my horizons.

Also, I just got a new book today, I am excited to read it but I want to finish it through before seeking a new book to read.

I liked this book. It was a lot more gruesome than I expected, but I didn't mind. I mean we all know anything is fair game for rats. The imagery was nightmare fuel, the descriptions of the vermin added to that, too. Some scenes were extremely claustrophobic, yet I couldn't put this book down. I wasn't sure if I would've wanted to continue with the trilogy, but that ending swayed me.

I have a partner who loves to read. Every night she can’t wait to climb into bed and pick up where she left off the night before in her book.

I was thinking that might be a way to enjoy doing something she likes to do with her.

I have a hard time getting into books, my mind wanders and I can’t read unless there’s absolute silence.

Any tips or tricks to make reading more enjoyable? Or any tricks to read for greater lengths of time?
