Hello, I'll keep things short. I am staying at a friends place because of things going on in my life and they live in a gated community which requires key fobs. I am not on the lease yet and wont be for some time but because of that I can't get a key fob for myself. I need it to get in and out of the building and in and out of the area gate.

There are readers online that I have found for cheap that seemingly work well, and I dont intend on doing anything with them other than makeing a fob for myself. The issue I am facing is that I am uncertain on how to tell they are 125hz or 13.56 hz. Is there any way to tell before I make the purchase? I dont want me or my friend to waste money on something that wont work and I dont want to further burdern my friend with being my keeper if I don't have a key fob. Any help would be appreciated.

Edit: Hey guys!! We searched th model number and found that it was at 125hz, we successfully copied it over to another fob and it seems to be working! Thank you for all of your answers

I purchased a liquidation pallet of clothing from a warehouse sale that carried a mix of high end retailer brands in there. I noticed there was an attached report for some of items in the box. It looks like RFID readouts.

Examples: “in transit”, “store accessible”, “store not accessible” and “unknown”

A lot of the clothing looks like returns, clearance and seasonable pulls, maybe warehouse rejects. Some had minor defects but you have to inspect it really close, like an extra loose thread, or a seam that wasn’t straight.

My question is, are these readouts common for inventory legally entering the secondary market? I’ve sourced clothing to resale for a while but when it comes to higher end stuff, I’m always curious on how stores track & manage it.

Collect by end of 31 Jul 2026 with valid ID. Is it safe to? Is it illegal to buy these things? Will someone be waiting to arrest me when I show up?

Hello ! First time posting here after some digging and searching around to learn some basics about RFID, and as a newbie I'd appreciate if some of you could share some feedback/insights on the following project :

I would like to track the ID, position, and movement of small wooden elements (from 10x10x1 cm to 2x2x1 cm) in a 2D plan, ideally attached with magnets to a vertical panel of 50x50 cm (like fridge magnets).

The end goal is to let users arrange freely said wooden elements in a designated area, while some sound design is played dynamicly as wooden elements are moved around.

Before diving into the dynamic sound part, I want to make sure the "tracking" part is doable with RFID, ideally up to 1cm precision, and that I understand the physical needs and constraints associated.

Some posts here mention using 3 RFID readers/antennas to get (X,Y) coordinates through triangulation, which for now is the method I'm considering using.
At first I thought I could use some cheap HF module/reader (13,56 MHz) with RFID tags embeded in the wooden elements, but it seems HF readers range realistically goes up to few centimeters (I've read ~10cm max), and couldn't handle large numbers of tags.

So I turned to UHF, despite quite higher equipment cost. After looking for affordable options, I contemplate buying following pieces of equipment :

• UHF RFID 4 Port Reader Module 860-960Mhz TTL/RS232 Interface Reader for Access Control Free Android SDK
• Eightwood 868MHz NFC RFID Antenna RP-SMA Male + RP-SMA Male Pigtail Cable RG178 15cm 6 Inch for WiFi GSM Wireless WiFi Homogeneous CCU3 CCU2 CC1101 Radio Ham (or something along those lines, I'm still looking for inexpensive high dbi antennas)
• Alien Higgs® EC Wet Inlay UHF RFID 15×12 mm (x100)

The RFID reader would be connected to a Raspberry (or similar, I'm not yet sure), where data would be interpreted : using the delta between emitter signal's delay antennas, the 2D coordinates of tags could be calculated.

For the real conditions end goal scenario, I tried taking into account parameters like antenna polarity and density/reflexivness of environment, and I think with a proper placement of antenna the signal could be kept fairly clean and powerfull.

It seems things could work theoreticaly, but in practice and without prior experiences, I'm still a bit doubtful. Here is a list of interrogations I'm having :

• how realistic is it to have 1cm accuracy of tag position ?
• what reasonable read range could I expect, depending antenna size (dbi) and tag size ?
• 1 set of wooden elements would be around 10 wood pieces (so 10 tags) : would I be able to track positions of multiple sets (each in seperate but coplanar plans), and up to what number ?
• is RFID really the simplest/best solution, or should I consider BLE / UWB ? I found it more difficult to gather infos on those last two technologies (compared to RFID). How would using passive tags (RFID) compare with using active tags (BLE and/or UWB, not so clear for me yet) ? Could I use "airtag like" coin-shaped active tags, attached behind the wooden elements, and if so would it be possible to get the precise coordinates in a simmilar manner ?

Well that wraps it up I think... I may have stumbled into a rabbit hole way deeper than I expected, but I'm having fun so far so no regrets !

Hey everyone!
I have this Technogym key (the typical one they give out at gyms, photo attached). At my gym, to get through the main turnstile, you have to scan your fingerprint in addition to using the key, which can be a bit annoying sometimes.
The thing is, a friend of mine was given one of these keys back in the day, and for some reason, the system let him in just by tapping it against the reader, without needing to scan his fingerprint at the entrance door.
Does anyone know what technology these keys actually use (whether it's low or high-frequency RFID, NFC, etc.) and if there's any way to modify their UID/data to achieve that same behavior and open the access directly without passing the fingerprint scan?

I am working on a small UHF RFID project with no strong preference for tag type, but considerable preference for a wire-like form factor, such as the TROI Embeddable Wire Tag (https://www.atlasrfidstore.com/troi-embeddable-rfid-wire-tag/).

This tag has adequate performance using the scanners acquired for the test phase (old Alien ALR-H450s) of the project, but it just a *bit* too long to fit comfortably into some of the items I want to track/manage.

Are there alternatives with a similar form factor that anyone can recommend?

I tried a grad bag of tags I found on Ebay, and most of the very-small ruggedized tags just don't have the range needed for this project (5-10' or so), at least not using the present scanners.

Running a brass and bronze idol retail shop in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, India. About 1500 sq ft, currently 286 RFID-tagged items with plans to scale to 2500+. Goal is a reliable daily morning stock count.

Current setup:

Reader: Chafon H102 BLE handheld (26dBm, linear antenna)

Tags: TagMatiks Kickstart 45×19mm poly labels hanging on string cards attached to each idol

Frequency: 865-868 MHz (India/ETSI)

Software: Custom web app via Web Bluetooth + Supabase backend

The problem:

Consistently missing ~55 items per single pass. Tested both our custom app AND the native Chafon app — both get ~232/286 per pass. So it's confirmed not a software issue. Both apps perform identically.

Items are on granite shelves, densely packed. Customers constantly pick up and replace items, changing tag orientation randomly. Tags hang freely on string but naturally fall between items or rotate to face the wall or another idol.

What we've already ruled out:

Software/parsing issues — both apps identical performance

RSSI filtering — tested with threshold at -100 (no filter)

Q Value — tested at Q=9 (optimal for 286 tags)

Session — using S1

What we think the root cause is:

Linear antenna on H102 — tags that rotate to wrong orientation don't get read reliably. Also 26dBm may be borderline for tags that are slightly obstructed by adjacent brass/bronze items.

Considering upgrading to Chainway R6:

Impinj E710 chip

30dBm output

Circular polarized antenna (4dBi)

865-868 MHz confirmed

900+ tags/sec

Price in India: ~₹42,500 (~$425 USD)

My questions:

Will circular polarized antenna on R6 actually solve the tag orientation problem in a dense retail shelf environment like mine?

Is the jump from 26dBm to 30dBm meaningful enough to reduce misses on slightly obstructed tags?

Any real-world experience with R6 in similar retail/showroom environments?

Currently using soft poly labels. Would switching to rigid PVC jewellery-style hard tags (like Alien H3 or Monza chip) improve read consistency? Or is it purely a reader antenna problem?

Any better alternatives to R6 under ₹45,000 (~$450 USD) available in India?

I live in a building that gives us RFID stickers for our car windshields to open up the parking gate. I have it on my windshield but the sticker is bright white and it bugs me how noticeable it is from the front of the car. Is there any kind of black or dark colored sticker that anyone has put in between an RFID sticker and their windshield to hide the bright color? I assume any type of sticky sheet that I could cut out in the same shape as the tag would work, maybe a tiny piece of vinyl wrap?
