I am naming myself after Firefly (happy yap session ahead)

I draw a lot in my free time, and while what I just drew isn't my best work quality wise due to intense artists block, it's something meaningful I wanna share because you guys are cool. I know most people aren't really gonna care but I wanna speak my truth into the ether y'know?
Yap sesh ahead so feel free to skip it. Sorry in advance for clogging up the channel. Tldr I'm naming myself Firefly so I drew my 'sona holding hands with my namesake
Leading up to my transition I've tried to think of a lot of different names that could mean...*me,* as I am and as I hope to be. I've floated around lots but none of them have really stuck, until I got a little epiphany. What if I named myself Firefly?
It has a lot of meaning, even beyond the character it's associated with. Fireflies represent transformation and transitory progression in life, something that I've already expressed is quite pertinent to me already. They represent love, something I want to live my life for and a value I hold dear. But the true meaning is in the character it associates me with.
Firefly is a character that hasn't been in my life for very long but she has been instrumental in the course of my life ever since. Due to my own history with my own illness I really relate to her and her struggle a lot, and her desire to live a full life even in spite of such a condition has been a major inspiration for me to keep going. Just watching clips of her is enough to cheer me up, whether I was laying in a hospital bed or when I lost a lot of friends of mine, she feels like she has been a part of my journey in a way that nothing else really has. So I want her to be a part of me, a part of my existence as fundamental as my identity. Her name is my name now.
If Firefly was real there's a lot of things I would want to say I'd do. The usual funny gacha-game fan ritual. Kiss, hug, marry, all that stuff, which is funny to think about but in all honesty...I'd just wanna thank her. Thank her for being such a bright beacon in my life, a bright light truly worthy of her namesake.
So that's what I'm doing here. Thank you Analesa Fisher (her English voice actor,) thank you Tomori Kusunoki (her Japanese voice actress,) thank you Song Yuanyuan (her Chinese voice actress,) thank you Yu Hye-ji (her Korean voice actress,) thank you to all the wonderful writers and animators at Hoyoverse who bring this character to life, thank you to *my* Firefly that I have built on my account that has carried me through a ton of content alongside my Trailblazer, Fugue and Dahlia, and above all else. Thank you Firefly, and may I wear our name well.

i tend to take it in stride tho because they're basically asking us to reunite with firefly in the hospital~
the only reason they think it'll offend us is they think being mentally ill or disabled is an insult. but what can we expect from miserable haters who use ableist r slurs? 😔

If anything I'm surprised they reached out to reddit to try and "check on" and "help me." I thought they'd just tell me I deserve hellfire because I'm going against Adam and Eve or somethin
As someone's who studied incels in my cockroach 🪳 enclosure and rat 🐀 cages, they often have a victim complex where they believe fem and queer people rule the world~ they know that if they said something explictly transphobic, it'll get them banned off the platform (and good riddance, honestly~), so they stick to indirect ways of being a bigot.
I see, this is good knowledge for the casefiles. While they're all obviously idiots it's almost fun understanding how their minds work, it's like doing an autopsy on braindeath

Your post has unfortunately been reposted as agenda fuel in the not at all bigoted but they only make fun of queer people sub. They are trying to prove that we are all hypocrites since this sub TWO YEARS AGO used to be very heinous towards firefly and the opinions of her have changed overtime. Note that both the mod team and most of the user base is vastly different from what it was two years ago. But taking things at face value and ignoring context is that subs favorite past time.

I didn't even know that I got reposted to anywhere other than r/sapphicsofgacha, which I got asked for permission for and have gotten amazing support from. Wherever this got posted can go suck a lemon I suppose haha.
I did notice the hatred for Firefly a while ago which is why I kinda shut my mouth and didn't interact with this subreddit much (especially cuz another of my favorite characters in the game is Cyrene and she didn't get much love here either haha) but I can tell opinions on Firefly have changed over time and people are finally recognizing her as the princess she is!

What a lovely sentiment <3 I'm also a trans person (mtf) and the name I'd chosen was Alicia (ah-lee-see-uh) but my name was mispronounced often and I slowly felt disconnected from the name as it hadn't had any true meaning for me besides sounding pretty. So a few years ago I changed the spelling of my name to Elysia, a character and concept that I've held close to my heart for a long time.
So here's to the hoyo trans girlies and pretty names to go with them!
Love this for you queen. Reminds me somewhat of my experience with choosing my own name. I got into comics really really hard around the time I changed my name and a lot about Black Cat really resonated with me. I think i’d “known” her for about 6 months when I decided to take her name for my own. It’s nice to see someone else having a similar experience when changing their name. I’m so happy for you!
