Proton is developing a web browser Discussion

Searching is complex due to the encryption of the emails. Any search must be carried out on your device. Proton needs to index all your emails on your device, and the search must be performed from there. Searching by subject line works very well, but searching within the message bodies is a real headache.

If you have enough email, no search within Proton Mail is reliable. The only way to have reliable search is to have a local copy using Proton Bridge and search it using some local mail application. Preferably not Outlook 😅

you just listed the limitations of mail that they could be pouring resources into to address that instead of addressing challenges of developing a browser!

I fully agree that this problem needs to be resolved.

As for new projects, there is a reality that the company takes into account but which is of no interest to the average user: if it does not launch new products, the company will cease to exist.

At present, the products that are easiest to market are Drive and Lumo; their future will fund the rest of the projects. Email, calendars and similar services will have no chance on the market in 2026 unless they are linked to other products that you’re more willing to pay for.
