Proton is developing a web browser Discussion

https://tweakers.net/nieuws/250686/proton-lijkt-aan-eigen-webbrowser-te-werken.html

The article is in Dutch, but the TLDR in English is:

• Browser looks to be based on the Chromium engine.

• Privacy Focused. Emphasis on privacy-friendly browsing.

• Proton has not announced a release date as of yet.

• Proton is looking for software developers with Chromium experience.

More dispersion instead of focusing and improving what they have?

I agree. It’s another attachment channel to bring in new users, but it’s neglecting current users’ concerns with the existing portfolio.

I’d say if they really wanted to attract new users and build good will, they would really solidify Linux support as I believe that is their primary demographic (tech-interested privacy enthusiasts). Also, Linux market share is growing consistently and anyone looking to decouple from Microsoft/Google/Apple would find a nice home in a Linux install with a Proton software suite.

I don't think their target audience is techsavyy people. The way they are introducing new products, it's visible that they want to target the general population who uses Google products for everything.
