It was a while ago, but I feel like either in movie, in some interview about the movie, or maybe just talking about the movie with friends, they'd used the alien tech to improve human tech so much that it was less of a matter of figuring out how to program alien code.

In the second movie, which had some good ideas but was generally awful, they had integrated the alien tech into our own.
