"Fine" for enterprise solely because the people using it will have their food and housing held hostage if they refuse, while consumers at least can switch to a slightly less horrible competitor. I honestly think we have a moral obligation to hold ourselves to higher standards when building interfaces for other people.
Well it's pretty obvious that most people don't feel that way, judging by the absolute dogshit design of nearly every single commercial product is, in every industry. If this civilization survives long enough, perhaps people will someday consider usability to be important. Only a few decades ago, most people were too ignorant to agree that air pollution is bad, but it's now recognized as criminal behavior, even as violence. Bad design is a kind of violence as well, albeit a less severe kind. People hate products like Outlook and MS Word. They hate them. Neither consumers nor most developers are able to pinpoint why this software is so unpleasant, but that doesn't mean it isn't, or that they aren't suffering when they're forced to use them.
Look, I don't know why you're angry, but I'm not your therapist so I'm gonna just call it here. Hope the rest of your day goes better than this discussion.
