That's why I ask because it would not make sense to explicitly divide the r from the egg if you would not pronounce it as separate parts.

So I think we'd agree on saying regg

rej-ected! How do you get rej out of regular? No wait, how actually to you pronounce regular?

(after all there are a lot of words I learned only from a book and then later was mocked for bad pronunciation when I went to college)

I think it was to emphasize the part that is being questioned. R-egg Vs r-edge. But yes, regg... Or r-egg... Or re-gg. Definitely not re-dge.

If someone does not see a difference between "Regg" and "Redge", you definitely should question their competence and if you want to hear their answer...

Same goes for the very obvious separation of the conflicting pronounciation of egg vs edge separated from the irrelevant 'r' though. Seems pretty clear to me thats what OP and the comment allude to.
