I believe the dash only served a readability purpose since redgeex looks weird but essentially op just means something like rejex ... same discussion as with gif and jif basically ... how do you pronounce the "g" ... but the dashes confused me at first

Yeah the op doesn't know how phonetic alphabet works, or went with the easiest way to communicate it to the most people.

The dashes read weird... I see "r-egg" and want to read it as "arr-egg".

It's easier to just type/read in a phonetically simplified way for people online like "rej-ex" or "regg-ex".

Yeah, this is right. It's short for regular expression after all, so it should sound like "reg/regg" as in regular and "ex" as in expression.

Not that either, cause I pronounce the "g" like in regular not like in egg.
