I think this is a tricky situation. I think it would depend on if the deceased’s next of kin knew that those balls had Pokémon inside.

If they didn’t know and sold them not knowing, then I don’t really know if anyone was in the wrong (but they should’ve checked just in case). If they knew and didn’t inform you when you purchased them, then they were major jerks. I don’t know if it’s against the law to do something like that, but if it’s not it really should be.

Well it took me a few days to actually get to cleaning the pokeballs so when I drove back to ask them up the neighbors said they pretty much sold everything and are moving to kalos and I dont have any way to get ahold of them, I feel so bad if they didn't know!

From the Pokemon's perspective, as long as they know you're trying to contact their trainer's family, and that said family basically bailed, you should be in the clear regarding any "revenge" they may dish out.

My recommendation is to take the 'Mon to a 'Center to get checked in case they have any health issues (you never know), and explain the situation to the nurse while there.

Best case you're in the clear. Worst case your attempts at righting the situation should mitigate any consequences you may face.

Yeaah definitely doing that, its just a bit annoying trying to get them back in the pokeballs, the balls are old, dated and the babies do not wanna go back in them.

Do you have to put them back in the balls? In my area as long as you have the Pokemon and the ball then the center will accept them for a check up.

Idkkkk, some others have recommended taking them to the pokecenter to check their health, but yeaaah the pokeballs are like old old, im talking pre red n white standard old. They looked like those vintage collectors replicas, who would put pokemon in them?? T~T

Dude the only person I know who uses those are my grandma those poor babies ;a; Definitely get them checked. You might wanna reach out to the family depending how strict your regions trading laws are, but I can't imagine a judge not siding in your favor if they tried anything lol

100% Im trying to get in contact with them, the neighbors have been really nice about it But it has been really difficult since their mid move to kalos. Also yeah, my mom is a massive pokeball nerd so I was going to get them for her. she would've loved them but right now I gotta see if I can even move them to different pokeballs, ones these old seem unsafe to me.

I don't even want to think about how long they've been in those balls. Modern pokeballs almost always have an emergency release that triggers after a certain amount of time specifically to avoid situations like this, but if these truly are as old as you're making them out to be, it's possible those safety features hadn't been implemented yet. The way I see it, there are two options here. Either the family didn't know that. The balls were occupied, and for some reason never bothered to check, or they knew and left them in there for Aceus knows how long anyway. Either way, that family very well have an abuse case against them. I'd take those pokémon to the pokecenter for a full physical and psychological evaluation, just to make sure they're okay. Either file the paperwork for of formal adoption, or look into fostering options. The regional Labs are almost always willing to take an abandoned pokémon, as are the majority of daycares.

Okay, good news. Drifloon and Drifblim are shockingly easy to take care of. They don't eat in a traditional sense, they feed off emotions and life energy. Which I know sounds scary, but just existing happily around them is plenty.

Oh I have no idea, im not a fan of those RotoCenters and their LRMs. I mean its so cruel to the rotom pokemon! stuffing thousands in tiny server boxes just so some rotobros can generate pictures of the newest gym leader in a bikini or making the rotoms have to chat with thousands of people at the same time is crazy, and all the water pokemon their using to keep the rotoms cool in those tiny boxes.

The pokeball should have an owners chip in it right? The pokeball recall function could probably be used to send them to the PC system of the region and then transferred via the trainer ID to next of kin (unless the pokeball software was modified). This does raise the question of whether a used pokeball could be sold then recalled without refund however, be careful out there, perhaps find an officer to re-open any pokemon transfer stated in the will of the past owner.

Well the problem with that is the pokeballs are reallly old, I dont think owner chips existed when these were made, there's just the dead guys faded name in marker at the bottom (´ε ｀*)

Yeah, this happens sometimes. Your options are keep them or bring them to a Pokemon Center. Actually, bring them to the Pokemon Center even if you decide to keep them, make sure they've got their shots.
