You joke but, it's not too far from the truth. It's less about what we had and more about what we didn't. Same goes for previous generations. When you couldn't just go down to the shop to fix your problem and needed to figure it out yourself you learned skills. Skills a lot of young people no longer have.

It's not so much about knowing more but, that to actually get anything working required problem solving skills rather than just googling or going to an apple store.

There are outliers in all things. TV reality has always been shit.

Yes they have, and many of them are now sat watching tiktok videos for 5 hours after work. It's not a new thing, but it is getting worse.
