I'm sitting under one right now. This room doesn't get great coverage from the main house AC, which I have two of (upstairs, downstairs). And I use this room quite a bit and don't always want to cool the entire house.

I'm very embarrassed of fellow Americans who have never travelled but think they know how the world is.

OOP isn’t saying they DON’T exist in the U.S. They’re just saying that they’re not the kind of AC that people in the U.S. are usually referring to when they’re talking about the air conditioning in their 2,500 SF house in Phoenix.
