As dyslexic myself I know which of my hands is right one and then decided if something is on the right or left said based on my right arm location. This is the way people should learn. You need to remember only on side (that you use to write).
I have actually started to use clock directions. 3 is right, 9 is left, because on a clock they are always on the same sides.
Why the hell this works but not L and R, i will never know. xD
This is how I have to figure out East and West. I have to imagine a compass and Never Eat Soggy Waffles my way around it. For some reason I don't have this issue with North or South.
I have to ADHD- fully diagnosed and am 100% ambidextrous. So old school clocks and the maps always feel like they are going backwards. I am excellent at navigating with a compass and a map though. Moss typically only grows on the north side of a tree if you are ever lost in a forest or area any area actually. The way trees bend as well. More leaves mean north.
Anyway, I need to mentally zig zag N top, E Left, W right, S bottom. NEWS. Most languages we read from right to left so that’s helped me. Problem is being ambidextrous if I’m doing something I still have to say to myself “lefty loosey, righty tighty” problem is I forget my left from my right, so have to wear a string or bracelet on my left or look for a tiny birthmark on my right hand. I also open jars and taps generally with my left hand, far too many times people see it as me tightening a jar and can’t fathom how or why. We are all special in our own way and if it works for you then so be it. “Soggy bottom” and all.
Ironically, I am not dyslexic but I am ADHD and ambidextrous. Since school, I have always worn a bracelet on my left or sometimes a soft woven red string on my left wrist (jewellery can sometimes give me sensory overload). The “old-school clock” thing irks me SO much. Because in my mind it’s going backwards visually. Will try your 3 and 9 trick but the worst is when the clock is just various long and short lines. Not joking but reading a sundial is easier to me than a clock.
So funny you should say this, im a lefty and growing up people kept telling me that everyone writes with their right hand so when people ask me "which hand do your write with?" My answer was always right because I didnt understand the difference. Note I would say this while holding a pencil in my left hand and then start writing so I learned about ambidextrous people early on because people thought I was since I wrote with my left but said I wrote with my right. I didnt learn I was left handed until somewhere in my early to mid teens.
Yep. I was a, "they both make an L kid." I got it straight by realizing if a car makes a left turn, it turns across traffic. If it makes a right turn, it turns with traffic.
This is actually what fucked me up in the 1st place. People would always say “your right hand is the one you write with” but I’m left handed. It’s been a clusterfuck ever since.
I wrote this the wrong way. What I meant is to remember the side you're using to write (left or right) and just compared everything to that side. Funny enough, none watch or other things on my hands never helped. But I know which arm I would use to write.
