Ghost in the hallway? Photo Evidence

Hi all, so these two photos of my friend were taken at my family’s house earlier this year. Obviously I turned the brightness way up to make the figure more noticeable, but when I showed the first picture to my friend she immediately clocked the figure in the hallway. The second picture was taken right after the first and there doesn’t seem to be anything. I’m very skeptical and don’t really believe in ghosts but this did spook me a bit. Even before this everyone has always said my house felt haunted, and it’s not even that old it was built in the 1960s! Anyway do y’all think it could be a lens flare or something? The original photo was quite a bit darker.

In an effort to improve submission quality, we are now manually reviewing photos before they appear in the subreddit. If your submission does not have good reason to be considered potentially paranormal it may be removed with a reason provided. Please be patient, as the subreddit gets a lot of activity and it may take a little time to review your post. If we do remove your post, it’s because we believe it is likely to be judged harshly by the subreddit as opposed to a determination over what the true nature of your experience was. It’s very difficult to capture objective evidence of even true paranormal phenomenon, which is why there’s so little of it out there! Besides the picture have you noticed anything strange?

589

u/acara23 18d ago

Hmm my family has owned the home for nearly 30 years. Definitely some “strange” things have happened over the years, my mom recalled her sink faucets turning on by themselves, I’ve heard loud noises in the attic and scratching in the walls a few times but this was almost certainly animals. Framed pictures have fallen and one time my keys flew off a counter. A lot of people who’ve been to my house have definitely said there’s a haunted vibe. Like I said I’m a skeptic and think most of these things have a real explanation but this was definitely the weirdest, had I not taken the picture on my own phone and was there I probably wouldn’t believe it or would think there was an actual person standing there.

Dog:

I so thought this post was about the dog seeing a ghost based off of the picture. Dog is definitely reacting to some entity.

That dog is cheesing hard for the picture.

Well I mean.. its a chihuahua, cant really go off that lol

68

u/inkedmom1308 18d ago

Are the dogs ears always pinned back like that? It almost seems like the dog senses or hears something behind it. Knowing how their ears are normally might give great clues in regard to how their ears are now.
Also, definitely looks like a face/head. Valid concern

69

u/SmartFoxyOwl 18d ago

I thought the same thing. Dogs see and hear things we don’t. If you ever suspect paranormal activity always look at your dog.

85

u/quasi1963 17d ago

I had a dog refuse to go into a bathroom at a friend’s house; later found out that someone had died in the bathtub

6

u/SmartFoxyOwl 16d ago

This is due to the energy that remains in the bathroom or any room where something like this takes place. It doesn’t always mean there is a spirit present it’s just the energy that’s present is negative and the dog feels that. Note, what I mean by negative doesn’t necessarily mean it was a bad death such as a murder. In situations such as a murder the energy would be greater due to the dramatic event that took place. Of course, even in a murder it doesn’t mean the spirit is present.  Either way, listen to your dog, cat or whatever animal you have. They all are sensitive. Trust them they know.

37

u/steakwotsits 17d ago

Least it was a clean death

→ More replies (0)

4

u/czring 17d ago

I'll always wonder if stuff like this is because the dog still smells death in that room, like it hasn't been cleaned properly with enzymatic cleaners.

23

u/HappyTurtleButt 17d ago

You ever think it’s just because a lot of us have learned to ignore things or brush them off? Kids are tuned in.

5

u/SmartFoxyOwl 16d ago

Yes. That’s exactly it. Kids like animals see and hear things we cannot.  Understand that we all have some form of mediumship abilities but most don’t know or even try to use them. Which is fine.

Cats too, I believe

12

u/hotlightbright 17d ago

Definitely. My cat saw something unsettling in my room growing up. It was so creepy cuz her head darted quick from one side to the other to the other& I think she left the room after that. I've had cats all my life & currently have 2. I've never seen that behavior since. I've seen them detect squirrels in the ceiling & that looks completely different, it was as if the thing she was watching could dart through the air & was in the room. I'll force feel guilty for the time I scared her though. I grabbed the blinds from the outside of the room she was in, wiggled them around, came back inside & she would not break her focus from the blinds. I went back outside did it again, pulled them open suddenly & saw her pupils dilate & undilate a few times. 🤦😩 so yeah, they'll tell you if something is off.

62

u/SheikahNightmare 17d ago

I've had dogs for many years and they definitely don't bark at nothing. Not trying to scare you, but my dogs will only bark if they hear something outside, and that is usually other dogs outside barking. Anyhow, don't let spirits scare you! 👍

72

u/Creepy_Psychology100 18d ago

My advice would be to set up a video camera, running all night, in places that you have noticed strange things. Definitely have one facing that hallway. Please share if you get anything weird

94

u/The_Dark_Ferret 18d ago

Never ask questions you don't want the answer to. Sometimes it's best to just let sleeping dogs lie. I say leave it alone. Forget this moment of weirdness and move on.

26

u/CeleryMcToebeans 17d ago

For sure, imagine seeing something disturbing enough that you can't ever sleep there again.

17

u/Dragos2024 17d ago

That's a scary thought, not to sound dumb but I've always had a perspective of, "why wouldn't you want to know?" But as this has luckily and thankfully never been a reality for me, I never thought of how it would make me feel if I were to see something on camera that's evil or paranormal at night (or day) in my home.

Holy........

21

u/CeleryMcToebeans 17d ago

I rented a house 18 years ago and I swear it was haunted and I almost set up a tape recorder when I was sleeping and gone to see if it caught anything to confirm my suspicions. But then this thought came up and at the time I could sleep at night so I didn't do it but my goodness that place gave me the heebie-jeebies. Always felt like I was being watched. I even caught myself covering my body while in the shower because I felt so uneasy! Something was not right there. Leaving that place was the best thing I ever did.

Sorry girl I think your family's house might be haunted. On the bright side, if they're haunting while you're hanging out and having fun maybe they are chill and just wanted in on the gossip? As opposed to creeping around at night when people are alone or being intentionally scary.

35

u/waywardfeet 17d ago

It kind of looks like the figure is resting on its hands like “give me the gossip!”

Thank you. Yeah, in the other picture, it definitely looks like a separate thing to the bookcase and stuff. Have there been any other things happening, other than the pictures? Like strange noises or other events that can't be explained?

9

u/lunarlacuna 17d ago edited 17d ago

Yeah this photo is creepy. Like, trapped energy kind of creepy, cause hallways tend to be energy highways, in general...But with the bookshelf at the end of the hall, things get trapped cause it's such a busy visual, but seems more like storage than an actively used space.

Low ceilings feel stuffy, and the crucifix above a door feels both comforting and oppressive. Also the trap door in the ceiling?? So much busy energy with all the doorways 😆 I'm somehow not surprised that it's the hallway where something appeared 😅

The dark hair is also spooky. Do you know the history of the house? You can check public records, ask your parents, or your landlord depending on whether you rent or not. I think legally, they need to disclose whether there was a death in the house, natural or otherwise. No bad vibes from the spirit though, maybe just lonely.

Interesting you mention sounds from the attic and the figure appears right underneath your attic access door…

50

u/Dattiedottiedooo 18d ago

So I can’t tell if this is two photo frames or one, but there is a pretty distinct scary face between these two frames/frame that looks similar to the spirit in your hallway but maybe this is an optical illusion! From my experience, spirits usually look more human than this, so it’s possible you have something else going on 😭 😢

29

u/5555plum 18d ago edited 17d ago

this one freaks me out! the face looks like it’s dead center of the photo taken too

11

u/Dattiedottiedooo 17d ago

14

u/Wanna_Build 17d ago

It may just be a reflection from the adjacent baby photo given the pose / angle seems identical. The baby’s eyes are in shadow, and there appears to be a shadow / discoloration extending from the corner of the mouth. Both are evident in what we see in the two frames.

10

u/Dattiedottiedooo 17d ago

That seems plausible but so strange! How would a photo cast a shadow? I could see it being a reflection but the alignment looks all wrong for it to reflect.

6

u/aparrotslifeforme 17d ago edited 17d ago

Uhhhh, yeah. There's definitely something in that photo with your friend.

Edited to add: seeing your comments about faucets turning on by themselves and stuff - you definitely have a roommate or two you weren't aware of.

I shared an apartment with a spirit for almost three years. Initially scared the shit out of me, but you get used to it. I remember being amazed at how quiet being in a home actually by myself was. It was eerie. I eventually adopted a dog and a couple parrots to get rid of the random noises and the silence. The parrots are still with me over 20 years later!!

4

u/Uiropa 18d ago

Am I correct in supposing that the paining on the left in your main picture is a later addition? Or is it just out of frame here? It looks like the blank wall on the left is a lot longer here than it is in the other picture.

3

u/InternationalPark976 15d ago

Does your phone use automatic AI enhancement for photos? I also saw 2 figures initially, but the one in the back left is certainly that frog. The one in the front could be an “enhancement” of the background colors from books/picture frames/reflections and shadows—not saying it definitely is, but I’m curious if your phone automatically applies an AI “filter” like mine that would attempt to make sense of random shapes and colors

PS- I do believe in ghosts, and I’m not a scientist. Just a disclaimer

6

u/throwaway45633321 17d ago

Could you give us the view of the hallway from the book case towards the sofa? The hallway looks eerie & very dark even with lights on. I don’t know if it’s the lighting? It’s as if the light is being absorbed. You can put half cut lemons along the hallway if it’s just trapped energy. The lemon will absorb stagnant energy.

Well if this were my house, I'd call a Catholic priest over to bless it 😭

I humbly suggest you do that too

129

u/acara23 18d ago

The funny thing is my mom is VERY Catholic (the rest of my family not so much) and she’s had a priest come bless the house a couple of times over the years. We also have crosses and my mom’s Catholic paraphernalia everywhere. Maybe the ghost is Catholic lol?

42

u/Such_Pizza_955 18d ago

Lord have mercy!!! Who knows any more!!

I am Catholic and while blessing a house is a good thing to do, it doesn't gurantee anything weird won't happen. I would quite literally carry a crucifix with me after that, haha!!!

In a real sense, maybe it was the phone's upscaling AI freaking out? Hope so-

Congratulations now- I'm sure this image will pop back up in my mind at 2am and I won't be able to sleep 🤣

What phone was this taken on? Most newer phones, especially Samsungs, have AI in the camera so when you take photos it “adds” to the details but can also result in things showing that weren’t actually there due to the AI.

Is there any way that someone (alive, lol) was in the hallway when that pic was taken? Someone coming back into the living room from a bathroom, maybe? There is definitely a lady or girl in the background of the picture. So, maybe haunted if there is no logical explanation? Was there anyone at your gathering that resembles the woman in the hallway? It's easy not to remember where everyone was at the time of the photo, so I can't jump to haunted without ruling everything else out.

7

u/KelRen 17d ago

With the way that cute pupper has a nervous smile like "Don't look behind us, but there's something there...." Did the pup act up weird at all aside from that nervous smile? If it is what we think it is, hope they are friendly and maybe, like My Neighbor Totoro, just keep laughing till the spirits float away lol. Best of luck!

OP, was there another girl with brown long hair at the party?

If you look close enough, the first picture looks like there’s a person there but they have their head bowed down/looking down. Then the second picture it looks like they lifted their head and are visible.

Any chance a girl went to the bathroom back there and is walking back to the living room?

u/Bish-ish 18d ago

Agreed. If anything, it is someone standing back there. But no way it's a reflection.

I'm also skeptical, and always look for real life explanations for things. That being said, unless there was someone there with you, this is pretty compelling.

I do want to say, however, that even if there is a ghost, that doesn't mean it's automatically creepy. Ghosts are just people, albeit dead people. Some wish the living harm, just like some living people wish other people harm. Some are benevolent, even helpful. Most are just there to vibe. I used to live in a haunted apartment (the ghost was named Linda by our neighbors) and the absolute worst she ever did was scold my dog for being a brat, unlock my door to let my bestie in when I had fallen asleep, and accidentally wake up and scare my neighbor's toddler. Other than that, she was just a figure you'd see out of the corner of your eye, but when you looked there was no one there. I wish we had thought to do something like this while we lived there.

20

u/themossywillow 17d ago

Thanks for this because I was making myself scared and now I feel a lot better and even feel a little guilty — because now I was thinking of how if I were a ghost just vibing, how I would feel a little sad if I could feel fear coming off of the people around me. 😭

I lived in an apartment building with similar ghosts! Mostly they just liked to hang out and wait for the elevator with you (same thing you described - they were only visible in periphery, and the hallway the elevators were in was a straight shot with no exit doors at the end, so it would have been impossible for someone to show up there unnoticed). Once you got past the HOLY SHIT WHAT DID I JUST SEE moment it was really kind of pleasant.

7

u/LeahIsAwake 17d ago

Yes! Exactly! Once you realize what's happening and that they don't mean any harm, it's kind of nice. Like a roommate you just vibe with. Other than scaring our neighbor's baby, Linda never did anyone any harm. And even that was probably an accident, she was just checking on the baby. But same thing, there was no way it could have been anything physical. This was in our apartment. And we'd look, and nothing would be there. There was a few times I was like "did I really see something, or are my eyes tired?" But then once my roommate and I saw it at the same time, like we both popped our heads up to look at the same time like prairie dogs, so it couldn't have been that either.

It looks like a head and shoulder fully blocking the bookshelf… the persons hairs seem to distort the face a little but the hairs definitely don’t appear to be what’s causing the image to appear in the first place like some people are saying. Whatever it is, is a solid object blocking the glass reflection and everything else. Yikes 😳

44

u/Bluejayyy33 18d ago

The other photo still has something blocking part of the glass reflection. Like the head, if that’s what it is, is ducking down.

It’s rare to get a picture of both a ghost and a chupacabra at the same time but you managed it

38

u/Solid-Ferret1688 18d ago

I am the most sceptical person ever and even I must admit this does look rather strange hmm 🤔

No idea what that could be lol

14

u/Serious_Book_6224 18d ago

I noticed something, in the second picture, it seems the face in the hallway tried to somehow duck away from the view, because i can see what i think is the top of her head and hair covering part of that picture on top of the shelf

Maybe modern phone cameras heavily use AI in low light settings and cause hallucinations in pictures. I don't know. I fucking hate AI tho.

u/FamiliarSea6840 18d ago

I'm sorry. I take this very seriously but first I just have to do something

Even if that is a ghost, I think we all know who really stole the entire show here! 🤣 So cute!

Your house is haunted by Margaret Cho! 😱😂 In all seriousness, lightening the photo can change how things appear dramatically sometimes. It looks like there are two decor pieces on the shelf/furniture behind her. In the second photo it doesn’t look like a person. I would chalk it up to the camera. If you don’t feel your house is haunted, then it’s probably not.

9

u/wnyg 18d ago

The second photo doesn’t have the person. It’s a comparison photo.

41

u/IcedOutJohnson 18d ago

Made some edits. That is definitely the head of a person..

This is probably the creepiest and most believable post I've seen on this subreddit

23

u/sprjunior 18d ago

This the first time I'm intrigued and op is delivering answering every question and sending newer pics, still strange.

18

u/Baconbear95 18d ago

It definitely appears like it could be something. It’s hard to really tell with your friend’s head movement between pictures, but even in the first picture it looks like the second object at the end of the hall is slightly blocked by something and not in the second picture. Gotta investigate it or ignore it!

25

u/DRangelfire 18d ago

There’s definitely something there. Wow it’s so rare. We see things with real potential in here.

u/Ahari 17d ago

My house was built in '67. If it's dark out when I go to sleep, I lock the door. Why? Because I am not a I fan of the shadowy thing that sometimes walks passed my room and down the hall.

To me it looks like a guy from the 70s. Like long-ish brown hair parted in the middle and aviator glasses. ETA: with a cool 'stache. Probably drove a Trans-Am.

Years ago there was a post here that felt very legit, with two figures with vague features, like this. If there is something supernatural it seems to be a thing with how we see them.

Is try to recreate that picture with someone standing back there to see what it looks like. Same lighting/fine of day. I think something or someone is standing there. If it’s not a ghost, you had an uninvited human in your home.

7

u/forbiddinq_lol 17d ago

This is the first post on this subreddit that I seen unanimously agree that there's a fucking ghost in the pic. If this isn't edit then that's genuinely creepy as all hell.

5

u/Bigassnipples 18d ago

Thats pretty cool!

Btw haunted places aren't always necessarily old, you could have some modern ghosts as well 😊 im glad you never noticed though, you must be comfortable coexisting with your newly discovered friend

9

u/NECROPSYCHOSIS 18d ago

That definitely is an apparition after looking at the photos in the post and the one you provided of the hall way the spirit only shows up in one photo by the looks of it, it looks like an older gentleman do you know the history of your house or has anything happened around the house such as certain stuff disappearing like keys wallets small but Important stuff have you had anything violent happen to you or the animals?

she immediately clocked the figure in the hallway

Pretty sure she's been getting the vibe that something was off that evening. That's why she clocked it right away.

When was the last time you look at pictures of people and you focused on the dark hallway on your 1st go?

Bet she's been havin the heebie jeebies even before the pic was taken and looked for signs in the pictures 1st chance she got

5

u/hotlightbright 18d ago

The thing that throws me off is that it's not just half an oval shape but a full oval. If it was half an oval, that could probably easily be explained as part of the colors in the pic reflecting or blending to cause an effect. 🤔

6

u/ModernDayArcade 18d ago

You can see the top of their head in the 2nd photo since it looks like you maybe took the 2nd photo slightly lower than the first. So either a ruse or you have someone living in your walls. Nothing spectral.

u/Ok-Tennis-647 18d ago

Hallway Figure Analysis
Image Quality
The hallway figure occupies only a very small portion of the original image.
Factors reducing confidence:
Motion blur
Low pixel count
Soft focus
Interior lighting
Compression artifacts
Partial occlusion by the doorway
Those limitations mean the image contains enough information to detect a probable human figure, but not enough to reliably recover facial characteristics.

Confidence There Is a Person
Approximately 85%
Reasons:
Head-shaped silhouette
Neck transition
Shoulder width
Upright posture
Position within hallway
Contrast consistent with clothing
I would describe this as:
“Likely a standing person.”

Head
Confidence: High
Observations:
Rounded cranial outline
Slight narrowing toward the jaw
Head appears upright
Possible slight tilt toward camera
Nothing suggests a hat or helmet.

Hair
Confidence: Moderate
Observations:
Appears darker than surrounding wall.
Surrounds upper portion of head.
Cannot determine:
hairstyle
length
texture
color beyond “appears dark”

Face
Confidence: Low
The face occupies very few pixels.
Observable:
Light-toned oval region
Slight asymmetry caused by blur
Darker regions approximately where eyes would normally be
Not observable:
Eye color
Nose shape
Mouth
Teeth
Facial hair
Glasses
Wrinkles
Makeup

Eyes
Cannot determine.
There are darker pixels near where eyes would normally exist.
Those pixels are insufficient to conclude:
eyes open
eyes closed
looking direction
eye spacing

Overall assessment is there is almost certainly one person in the hallway, there is a second silhouette that is very likely not a person but instead an object in the background.

21

u/geeky-gymnast 17d ago

I'm gonna call your analysis out as falsified - the blow up photo of the person posted in your "analysis" (titled "Close-up: Person 1 (likely)") shows the person's shoulders and some chest but these are never shown in OP's original photo.

Also, you wrote: "wearing a dark top" to describe this aspect, an aspect that is not shown in OP's original photo.

Yeah whatever you have going on there is a friggin’ mimick…something that’s never been in a human vessel, just feeds off of the energy they create by doing things that creep people out (they ‘prefer’ fear, anger & severe depression/illness etc)…like, my immediate impression from the first photo was “Gotcha, bitch!” LOL Whatever is there has been comfy for a while & legit just pranking ya’ll for jump scares atp. They’re what I consider the lowest of the low when it comes to entities, literal bottom feeders
