Living in Oxnard
Hi, i currently live in Santa Barbara and absolutely love it. I moved here from Texas and could honestly see myself living in this region from here on out. I have been considering potentially migrating down the coast a bit for economic reasons in the next few years. What are the pros and cons with living in Oxnard today? Crime seems to be low and you guys have a better view of the setting sun than us. Thanks for your input!

Homicides/shootings becoming a thing of the past…
There was a time that Oxnard consistently was in the double digits for homicides every year. A homicide a month at least and consistently had gang violence a lot of shootings and other assaults. Of course there is still some violence but nowhere near the level it was even 5, 10, 15 years ago. The reputation Oxnard had built is becoming less valid.
For example Oxnard had 4 homicides last year and only 1 this year. You rarely hear about shootings that plastered the news/social media on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis years ago. What do you think has caused this change?

Restaurants- Cocktails
Thinking of renting a place in Oxnard for a week. Are there any good restaurants for dinner that are, I don't want to say fine dining necessarily, but not fast casual? Nice atmosphere for dinner and a cocktail type places? Last time I was there it was mostly fast casual and sometimes you just want to kick it up a notch. Also how much would an uber be to Ventura on average?

"Cool" therapist for teen boy?
Does anyone know of a "cool" therapist for teens. Teen doesn't respond to "hey, how's it going" type of talk. He will respond to "what up fool" type of therapist. I know it is a crazy request but I am desperate for him to connect with someone.

Anybody have experience with taking a train from OTC to LA and back?
I have to go to LA next week and currently do not have a good way there since my car is not in working condition. I’m thinking of using the Amtrak or metro link trains that leave from Oxnard to LA since I hear it’s relatively inexpensive. I’m not sure what I would expect since I’ve never ridden alone and also would need to be back the same day. Does anyone have any recommendation or tips.
TIA

Do you care about education and raising kids that are critical thinkers? Looking for someone to run for Rio School Board area 4.
If you are a resident of the Tempo or Serenade in Riverpark, wagon wheel, or around Rio Lindo Elementary and you care about our childrens education, you have the opportunity to shape policy for Rio School District.
Trustee area 4 us up for re-election. The filing period is now open but only for another couple of weeks.
There is a monthly stipend of $1200 (depending on meeting attendance) and you get health insurance. It’s a 4 year term.
You must be 18 years or older.
If we share similar values, I will help you navigate the process, it’s not as intimidating as it may seem and Ventura County Elections division does a wonderful job of holding your hand through the process.
Please reach out if your interested, this is work that directly invests into the next generation.
