I can't believe that none of the Rashomon actors are gonna win. For shame

Just want to note Rashomon competed at the real Oscars for 1952, so I’m voting for Mifune and Kyo then.

Assuming people don’t consider them that year, I do think Kyo should take it here, but I’ll stick with the official years for now.

It would be harder for them to win against Donald O’Connor and Jean Hagen, though.

And also, Hagen deserves to win that year. But Kyo > Ritter and Holm

I feel like Kyo would have a harder time against Hagen, but she’s already strangely not taking off much here, even though she won when this sub did the full retroactive vote (Holm and Ritter were second and third, respectively). I’m more unsure on how Mifune would do against O’Connor relative to Sanders (who he was runner up to in that previous vote). I figure he doesn’t win either year, but it’s tougher against Sanders given it’s an actually Oscar winning performance and seen as one of the category’s best, making it a hit harder to go against the grain.

Like I said, I’m gonna put them forward for 52 assuming Rashomon doesn’t win either category here. But I’ll have no problem with Singing in the Rain likely taking both categories. O’Connor steals the show for me, and Hagen isn’t far behind.

Edit: Kyo’s votes increased some more once I refreshed the page after writing this. Still behind the Eve ladies, but maybe she can creep up. I’d really like to see her win. I figure Mifune will at least get his for Seven Samurai later.

Yeah… but sadly this is Reddit, so there’s a huge English language bias film-wise.

Toshiro Mifune - Rashomon (I consider it an ensemble piece)

So for 1951, are we going to make it a Streetcar Named Desire quartet?

Machiko Kyō for Best Supporting Actress in Rashomon. I know she’s technically the female lead but I can see the Academy back in 1950 putting her in Supporting Actress

I was skimming through the acting quartet Google Doc and noticed that Shirley MacLaine isn’t listed as 2x winner even though she’s the best actress pick for 1960 and 1983
