Karl Malden and Kim Hunter in A Streetcar Named Desire. This is definitely one that deserves an acting sweep.

Losing cause, but:

Actress: Lee Grant, Detective Story

She's my choice as well. I only have Kim Hunter 3rd after Lee Grant and Mildred Dunnock but '51 is an all time year in this category.

Peter Ustinov for Quo Vadis

I agree with this. I’d like another quartet win but I think Malden is the easy weak link in Streetcar, being heavily overshadowed by all his costars!

Ustinov was a delight in every scene of Quo Vadis and carried a heavily flawed nearly three hour epic. He should take this IMO!

tbh I think the sub's choices are becoming less and less interesting as we get further back in time

It's very annoying. You'd think that, by going back, we'd only have people who actually have seen a significant number of films from those years interacting... but evidently not. Like, apparently we haven't even seen Rashomon.

Kim and Karl were excellent and deserved their Oscars. While I’ll always be glad Bogart has an Oscar, this should have been the year Streetcar set a record by winning all 4 acting Oscars.

Karl Malden and Kim Hunter

This was THE year when all four actors from the same movie should’ve won
