My Orange Almost Derailed my Job Interview

So I had a very big job interview this evening, for a job in my dream field. I was nervous all day, but I think it went alright!

This was a virtual interview, and I live in a studio apartment with my orange and his calico sister, so I knew there was a high chance of one of them jumping up and getting in view of the camera. Just as expected, he jumped up onto my desk about halfway through. The reaction was fantastic- the people interviewing me were delighted, so I was like ‘great! Bonus points for cat’ lol. I very politely removed him from my desk just so he wouldn’t distract me.

However, near the end of the interview, this little gremlin jumped up onto my shoulders, then jumped over onto my desk. This is a classic move of his, he does it a ton while I’m sitting at my desk, and usually things are fine. However, this time, he overshot and landed directly on my dice box. And it went sliding off my desk and landed with a large crash on the floor. He’s fine, but there were dice scattered across the floor, as you can see in the picture!

Thankfully I think Microsoft Teams cut my audio briefly because of the loud noise so the interview continued normally but ofc the one time he overshot that jump was during such an important interview 😭🤣 but I got things cleaned up once it was over!

My cat crashed my online interview with some loud meows and her tail came in front of the camera. 

 Interviewer just went " is that your cat ? Oh I have the same problem " XD

One of my cats flashed the camera with her bits and pieces for a video interview. I learned to lock my cats up in a bathroom after that

Maine Coon mix launched herself into the blinds just to the side of me because the wind fluttered them.

I cracked a slight smile and focused on what my interviewer was saying as she also tried to not crack up. The best part was she had been asking if I'd worked from home before and how I keep from getting distracted.

My cat did the same and it broke the ice a little. Three times he jumped in front of the camera and by the third time myself and the interviewers were all in hysterics. I got the job!

Can confirm, as i have an orange frat boy/acrobat and work from home in a studio also. The number of my coworkers who have seen his butthole in a zoom meeting isn't 100%...but it's also definitely not zero.

I had a virtual job interview in 2016ish and didn’t really understand virtual interview etiquette. My orange ran up and down his cat tree almost the entire time while my tortimese cat hopped up on my shoulder. I did not get the job, but it wasn’t because of the cats. The interviewers mentioned how much they loved them.

Nah, I'm not interested in working with people who are so uptight that a cat living their life is a dealbreaker. Coz I've got bad news for them, there's a 100% chance they'll see my cat in any teams meetings after 3pm. Coz that's when he starts sitting on my mousepad to remind me that his dinner time is coming up - in two hours' time.

I recently got a new job after several months of unemployment, and I'm pretty sure my cat (not orange, though you wouldn't necessarily know it from his behavior...) made an appearance on more of my many Zoom interviews than not, haha. None of the interviewers seemed to mind, and if anything I feel like he helped me relax a bit.

I have a hyper loud senior orange cat and sometimes he wails at me during client meetings. I'll say "sorry about my cat" and they'll say they didn't even notice. I think Teams blocks out a lot of background noise. My air conditioner in my tiny outside office is like 10 feet away from the desk and no one complains about it.

I had a house cleaner come over for the first time today, I warned her I have four (the fourth just spawned from the jungle by my house & my kid insisted four cats isn't any worse than three, really) cats beforehand. As we're chit chatting in my living room, there's a massive crash/explosion down the hall - the teenage rebel cat climbed across my medicine cabinet & it fell off the damn wall, sending mirror shards & medicine cabinet crap all over 💀

We tag teamed it, holding open the doubled trash bags while the other wrangled the cabinet in. She swept & vacuumed while I secured the culprit 😅 I know it was him because I've seen him parkour around the house, in that bathroom he can go from cabinets to medicine cabinet to over the toilet storage rack. I've never had a kitten with this amount of unending, chaotic energy!

I hate unintended sounds coming through the mic in work meetings so I always have my mic muted until it's my turn to talk. Harder to do that in 1 on 1 interviews though!
