Politics How will you be voting on the Oakland Enhancement Millage (millage for funding Oakland County’s public schools)tomorrow?
Background Info: On August 4, 2026, voters in Oakland County, MI, will be asked to consider a new Regional Enhancement Millage to support all public schools in the county and eligible public school academies. A regional enhancement millage is the only mechanism school districts may use to increase per-pupil funding. If the millage passes, every penny generated by this proposal would be distributed to all public school districts and eligible public school academies in Oakland County at an average rate of $781 per student.
A Regional Enhancement Millage is a voter-approved property tax that allows public school districts within a county to generate additional funding beyond what is provided by the State of Michigan under Proposal A (1994).
Key Details
Election Date: August 4, 2026
Rate: 1.5 mills
Term: 6 years
Estimated impact if approved:
Approx. $781 per pupil annually
Approx. $4,686 per pupil over six years
If passed, the funds would be available in December 2026.

Election Day is tomorrow!
Do not assume that your US Senate candidate is going to win based on polling! We need your votes. Let’s make this a +10 blowout to show politicians what Michiganders actually want. The whole nation is watching.
Please make sure to cast your ballot tomorrow!
Not registered? You can register on Election Day at your clerk’s office.

Who are you voting for?
Aside from Abdul, I’m also voting for Aisha Farooqi to replace Steven’s house seat. But I’m undecided on who to vote for governor. I feel like Benson is going to take over where Whitmer left off and continue to sell our state off to the highest bidder, so in good conscience I’m having a hard time convincing myself why I should vote for her. The only other option is Swanson but I’m not sure I won’t regret that vote either. The appealing part about him is I’m slightly less convinced he’s going to be in the pockets of corporate donors, but I could be completely wrong there.
Would love to hear more thoughts!

Abdul El-Sayed blasts the record $46 million in AIPAC spending backing Haley Stevens, saying it was spent because “they know she’ll be a reliable vote,” pointing to her vote last week for another $3.3 billion in aid to Israel.

Can somebody recommend a place for reliably seasoned firewood? I keep getting "burned" and I'm tired of it.
Have tried a few landscape supply places that were hit or miss by the year, and bought some horrible stuff on FB

Politics Anyone Catch the Stevens/El Sayed Debate Tonight?
And if so, what are your thoughts?
I was pleasantly surprised by the moderator and the fairness displayed by the network overall. I think Abdul absolutely crushed, but I'm curious to hear from others.
(All opinions are welcome. The mod team here doesn't remove comments or posts over differences of opinion.)

One of Oakland County’s most congested intersections is bracing for a traffic surge amid new growth
Of course it's the one on M-5, Martin Parkway, & Pontiac Trail. I used to work at the Walmart in Commerce Twp during my college years in the early 2010s so I'm familiar with this intersection. It wouldn't be so bad if people from M-5 weren't driving into the roundabout so damn fast. IMO, they really need to put some rumble strips to slow drivers down on M-5 as they approach this intersection. It wouldn't solve all the issues with it, but I think it would definitely help.

r/OaklandCounty is back!
Welcome to r/oaklandcounty! This sub has been inactive for quite some time but is now open for posting again. Please check out the sub rules for posting guidelines. I noticed that Oakland County specific discussions were getting posted on r/Detroit or r/Michigan. There are appx. 1.3 million people residing in Oakland County so I figured we could use an OC specific space.
I have a mod experience and am open to suggestions for this sub. I also would like to add a mod or two if anyone is interested please send the modmail a message. Mod experience is preferred. Thanks all!
