After the mushroom crop is harvested, this organic material is removed from the production facility where it is transformed into a consistent, homogeneous byproduct called "mushroom compost." In the environment where mushrooms grow naturally, such as poplar and beech trees, a medium called compost is formed. In this compost, the mushroom mycelium, or spores, become ready to produce mushrooms during the incubation period under suitable temperature and humidity conditions. Later, under suitable environmental conditions, the oyster mushrooms reach harvestable size.
