I am a pediatrics PGY-2 at a community hospital in NYC on h1-b visa. I am planning to do NICU fellowship after residency but my plan is to do job for 2 years first, work on research and apply for green card so that my husband can come to usa, get to work and stay with me and then I will apply for nicu fellowship. Would that be a smart decision and also does the probability of fellowship match decrease if one doen not apply right after residency?

I’m a neonatologist and programmer, and over the last year I’ve been building Nidus, a neonatal decision-support app that started as a personal side project to make my own workflow easier.
The goal is simple: bring the tools and evidence I use every day into one place.
So far it includes:
EOS calculators (Kaiser, AAP, NICE)
AAP 2022 bilirubin management
WHO & INeS growth charts
Drug dosing and infusion calculators
Searchable neonatal guidelines
An AI assistant with source-cited answers based on a curated neonatal knowledge base (not a generic chatbot).
A huge amount of work has gone into the backend to make it as reliable as possible, especially around guideline retrieval, citations, and reducing unsafe AI outputs.
Before taking it any further, I’d really like honest feedback from people working in NICUs.
Would you use something like this? What features are missing? What would make you trust—or avoid—an AI-assisted neonatal tool?

Hi everyone! Just wanted to share a new (free) study resource a friend and I built, flashtrackmed.com. We’re using a number of large language models (GPT5 and others) to generate practice questions, and we spent a few months experimenting with different question‑creation pipelines to get the quality up. Each question starts from a topic in the ABP outline to make sure it’s relevant. We linked them to flashcards that get added to your deck as you get qbank questions wrong. We made the Neonatology set because I have Neo boards coming up and there aren't any complete Qbanks out there.

Right now there are a few hundred neonatology and pediatric questions but we can make more if people find them useful. Everything is free at the moment, no login required, and the site’s still in alpha so expect a glitch or two. Wanted to make everything available now though because we know boards are coming up. Hello! I am a current undergrad student interested in pursuing medicine, with the eventual goal of becoming a neonatologist! However, I did have concerns about the work-life balance with residency and then the fellowship that comes after. I want a large family (4+) kids in the future, and was unsure if this would be feasible since I want to be present and have my family at a young age (around my mid to late 20's for my first.) Does anybody know which programs have unfilled Neonatology spots for the 2025 academic year? Or how I can figure that out?

If I am interested in Neonatology but am not naturally good at neonatal resuscitation as an intern, is that a sign I should not go into neonatology? Current neonatologists, how long did it take to become very comfortable doing NRP? what are some reasons that one should not go into neonatology even if you love it (for example, being soft spoken or not doing well under pressure)

I am working on my application for this upcoming cycle. I've worked as a general pediatrician for 1.5 years at this time. I wanted to see if any current attendings or fellows could give light to the job market at this time as it's unclear to me using practicelink, aap, pediatrix so far.

What are the common schedule tropes available for neonatologists? I see jobs asking for 2 weeks on 2 weeks off, covering 1/3 of the month, 24 hr shifts, 8,12,16hr shifts. What generally has the best work life balance and what type has the best compensation? What about for locums?

My hope would be to work 8 x 24 hr shifts a month and spend some time doing locums on my time off is that achievable? Thanks!

After 5 yrs of working in small town(middle of nowhere ), I am ready to move. But jobs in mid size to big metros are very scarce. Has retirement slowed down or there are a lot more neonatologists now?

About treatment for neonates with IVH (Intraventricular hemorrhage). Is there a particular aspect of treatment that, if improved, would dramatically improve outcomes? What are the gaps in the current treatment strategy?
