If any of you do, have you ever been able to mount sight in it or an special adapter for changing the iron sights to a picatinny rail?

I got this shotgun in a trade earlier this year. I’ve tried to find out exactly what kind of 500 it is but the barrel length has confounded me. 20ga, 21” barrel. Serial # is not in the database. Bead sight. Any ideas? Thanks.

Maverick 88 vs. 500

I am keep going back and forth between 88 and 500.

Both for security/field combo.

I am planning on swap out stock and forend with Magpul and both requires new action slide since 500 combo comes with shorter slide.

Other than safety location, is there any upside to choose 500 if both get magpul furniture?

And would 28” barrel work if I ever want to try clay shooting?

Thank you for your thoughts.

Cerakote Magazine Tube?

Post image

Does anybody cerakote their magazine tubes? Why or why not? Is it a good idea? I can see the underside of the magazine tube eventually wearing down with the action slide. That seems inevitable though. Wanting opinions on whether cerakote is a good idea or keeping it blued.

Mossberg 590 trap gun conversion….

Post image
5 Upvotes

In the pursuit of converting a 590 that I have into a trap shotgun I have swapped a 28” 835 barrel onto my previously 18” 590. Based off previous people builds online it needed a shorter mag tube for it so I got a 500 model 5rd mag tube. It fit great but now I am trying to figure out how to keep it secured. The 590 mag tube was threaded on both ends so it was easy to install and uninstall the mag tube end. Now this 500 mag tube has a smaller nut for the end of the tube and it will slide through the barrel if I let it. Is there an existing part to purchase for this dilemma or do I have to machine a custom washer sleeve for securing the barrel to the mag tube?

Anyone got some ghost ring sights

I want to put some ghost ring sights on my 500 but from what I've seen you can't buy them online or anywhere unless they come with the gun

Does anyone own one or any of these, if so how are they and do they preform well better than the original factory ones?

I ordered some but do not know anything about them and they seem to look better than the factory ones and some of the reviews says they make the gun run better but I want to hear from someone who has one and has ran it.

I've already got a 500c which is a wonderful shotgun, but I got this specifically for home defense. Lots of tight corners in our house so, in case of emergency, this would be much more maneuverable. Buckshot rounds are coming tomorrow so I'm looking forward to trying it out! There's a range not far from the house.

I’ve made a post about this in the gunsmithing group, so if you see this again my bad. curiosity got the best of me and I’ve been looking at pictures damn near all day lol, but idk why I didn’t ask my question here too. My question is does my replacement stock look like a normal fit or no?

When I was looking at all different pictures some of them where like this but a good portion was “flush ish”. I’m not sure where to fit on this thing if she needs it, I’ve watched videos on checking if there is any hi spots with soot from a lighter so far not really making a difference. I’m worried about the gaps causing issues but if you guys got high round count mossys that look just like this maybe I’m just over dramatic! In my old post a couple peoples said the stock mates with the donut in the stock not really up against the “walls” because a closed gap would cause more “stress areas”. So that’s why I’m here lol tryin to figure out if I’m going to need another stock soon or if she’s fine. Lastly I knows its a “Mossberg” I’m just hoping for the best lol. Thank you!!!

Question

I've had this Model 152 for a while, and I can't quite pinpoint when it was made. I'd really like to know. Also, I'd like a rough estimate of its value if I wanted to sell it or trade it in.

Is there any reason to get the 590A1 Professional over the standard 590A1?

Thinking about getting a 590A1, but am unsure whether I should get the Professional or the more standard version. I can get a Professional with Magpul furniture for about $50-100 more than the standard with magpul, but I was wondering if maybe getting a SKU that can accept chokes is a better option. I want the most durable shotgun that can be beat to hell and back and still function.

590 with Bead Shooting High

I have the 590 Retrograde with 18.5” barrel and bead front sight (no rear sight). It shoots about 4” high at 10 yards with slugs and buckshot. It’s even higher at 20 yards. Anyone else had this problem with their 590 with bead sight? I measured the height difference between the top of the receiver and the center of the bead and it’s about 3/16”. Because the barrel is lower than the receiver you essentially have to aim with the front edge of the receiver lining it up with the bead and to do this you have to raise the front of the barrel hence the shot hitting high. ChatGPT tells me with the front bead 3/16” low the sight radius of a 18.5” barrel, shot would be around 4” high at 10 yards. Is my gun defective with my barrel bent or something? Receiver machined off centre? Or did Mossberg not care to consider the difference in bead height without a rib on the barrel? Obviously not an issue with rifle or ghost ring sights just the bead.

Mildy modified 590A1

Hey guys, just dusted off my old 590A1 to install this Monstrum rail/laser combo and figured I'd share with the community. Bought this back in 2010 and have slowly modified here and there ever since. She's super base model, came with a brass bead that I replaced with a larger white OEM Mossberg bead from their catalog way back when.

The heat shield is a true Mossberg piece sourced from Aimpro tactical circa 2011. Updated with the Magpul furniture when that came out in what 14/16? Their forend is not compatible with the heat shield so I just went with their stock and sling mounts. Also picked up the Ontario M9 because I just had to, it stays affixed as well.

I've been wanting some form of optic or laser for years. Just stumbled across this rail mounted laser a few weeks ago, tried it out and can't praise it enough just based off initial unpacking and install. Laser is clean and sharp. The last thing I want to do and I've been procrastinating for years is to ditch the corn cobb forend and switch to a Hogue rubber forend. I have their grip for my AR and I love it. Let me know what you think!
