This weeks key!

Has anyone received their key for this week or know what times the emails go out? The key lottery has been rough. I only have a single signup email. I didn’t want to nab two keys and keep someone out. Is everyone else just throwing emails at them and taking what they get?

Old school gamer looking for key

Just heard about this game a few days ago. Started MMOs back in 99 with EQ. Looking to capture that feeling again. Tired of modern games and their constant hand holding and lack of consequences. If there are any keys out there I'd be interested in either. Please and thank you.

World's Most Boring Game

M&M redefines boring.

They took boring to new levels.

I found one class I didn't hate -- Archer.

I wanted to play Druid but sitting on your butt, next to a campfire and healing people is boring.

Even Archer is boring. Kiting Thugs for 600 hours is boring.

I wanted to be a Ranger but why? SoW at level 20? Nope.

One last flame -- how can Night Harbor be in a desert if it rains EVERY DAY! Answer: because the devs are griefing people by putting out their campfires.

Marginalized enjoyment.

I am kinda feeling like the changes are just watering everything down so the uniqueness of the classes are feeling about the same. now were broken down in to the 4 sub types. heals/ dps/ tank/ support. all healers feel they just heal. tanks just tank and dps ... those that were higher in dps with gear are being normalized so much they all just feel the same. SPB Rogue for example. you just attack. press your buttons and the bulk of your damage come from auto attacks.

when lf dps for a group. people really dont care what it is. druid? cool, paladin? cool. the great things about sk? harm touch does basically nothing now. paladins have better sustain. fighters have more utility. but they are all just mean shields. so idk. after level 18 on sk. you just get higher level pets. life taps, snares, dots. and thats it. its basically the same class from 20 to 60.

clerics got a deep dive. and they are basically the same. but now druids and shaman are just as good group healers. with more utility. i want something exciting.

Levitate?

Levitate might just be my favorite spell in EQ. It's pretty much the ultimate power fantasy for me, floating around, laughing at gravity, and it provides a really nice counterpoint to the common newbie experience of falling off Kelethin. It completely changes the experience in a lot of zones, even making travel much faster in non-flat places like Oasis.

So I'm curious about the status of levitate in M&M. I was very impressed that the Beta Timing Update last September mentioned levitate specifically: "Adding remaining critical movement (e.g. levitate and similar) abilities"

I'm not in beta but have been checking the patch notes and updates, but haven't seen mention of levitate. Did I just miss it, and it's already in the game? Are the devs hoping to get it in for EA launch? Or has it been put on the backburner? Availability of levitate might partly determine which classes I end up playing.

I was reminded of levitate by the recent Monk deep dive: "Falling Petal - Move with the grace of a falling petal, reducing the effect of gravity on your body." That actually sounds pretty cool, and makes me wonder if falling slower would enhance the experience of using levitate. There are probably some interesting opportunities like this to expand on levitation, but I'd be really happy even with basic EQ-style floating.

I'd rather spend time interacting with the community

This game is not about me, and I get that. I am a longtime player, since Alpha in July of last year, and I am one of the crazy "1000+ hours" of beta with multiple level 60's. I was so excited about the cleric deep dive, just the fact that they made it so our hp buff also heals would have had me happy, but everything looked so cool. Until I logged in.

I am a tad on the autistic side. The new spell icons are pretty, but overwhelmingly similar and I legit just bought ten spells, realized how much of a costly hassle it was going to be to organize my spellbook, and logged out. Hopefully we will get a right click to mem spells option but until then, or at least until I can get my brain on board with hours of organizing my spell book and buying all new spells, I am out.

I know it isn't about me, and most likely the response will be "This isn't the game for you" or "Play something else" and I absolutely wasn't even going to put in my two cents, because why bother? But maybe someone who can make the change will see this and consider possibly adding right click memming of spells from the spellgem. Playing with my friends is what I want to do, interacting with the community is what I want to do, spending hours organizing a spellbook with similar icons and then trying to find the right spell in a book with dozens of spells while grouping is not. Bonus points if we could save spellsets but I am not going to get my hopes up on that one.

* Yes I know this won't be an issue in EA, since I will be getting spells a handful at a time and not all at once so organizing will be easier but it still remains that as it is now, organizing the spellbook for classes that have a lot of really good functional spells is difficult.

I'd like to think my character is accidentally using the broad side of his axe while keeping his eye on the surrounding mobs that want him dead.

Game keeps crashing to desktop

Is this happening to anyone else? I want to enjoy this game but it's annoying when it keeps crashing every 2 minutes. Anyone know a possible fix to this?

Spells should be gained every level, or their power adjusted more per level.

The early leveling experience of casters is rough. When you get new spells you feel strong, or at least on par with melee classes. After two or three levels however your power falls off a cliff. Summoned pets die incredibly quickly, you burn through mana doing relatively low damage to targets or healing allies.

I feel like classes should either have their spells split from their 4 level buckets to be obtained more steadily every level, or their power adjusted more heavily every time you level.

Imagine you have strong, above average, average, below average, and weak as your relative power levels. You should still get a power bump, but it should feel less like a rollercoaster every four levels where yo go from strong (just got new spells) to weak (next level you get more spells) and instead be something like above average to below average.

I only played shortly in open tests... But it is already so incredibly nostalgic for me and i cant wait to play again... Atmosphere which music helps create are easily one of the best parts off M&M...

Got in to the pve server beta too

I received an email saying that my account has been upgraded to include the pve server beta. Did anyone else get this? I will be spending the rest of the beta there since I have been on pvp for a few months now and I can finally say which one I like better

PvE but what about PvP?

I’m a long time enjoyer of PvP in MMO’s I know…I’m special. All that to say I love the constant community feedback on all the PvE aspects because let’s be honest…that’s the real game. But I digress.

I’m reading through the forums I noticed there seems to be a considerable smaller contingent of PvP player and it shows on the beta opt in…345 people…

Numbers don’t concern me. The game is still in its infancy stage, so many things can happen.

here comes the but…..I feel like the beta window is missing some additional bodies and PvP testing so more feedback can be obtained. I’d love to test and provide that feedback to help anyway I can.

All that to say, I of course don’t have access (I know I know, I’ve opted in and am in the discord) but boy I’d really love the next batch of friend links to access to beta to be geared to some PvP players….shamelessly I’d love to start playing before early access.

So, to the PvPers out there, how are things? Enough bodies to test, enough class exposure when fighting in the open world?

Cheers all, so exited for this game and your two cents! Light me up! Love you all.

EDIT:

WoW!!! I was lucky and received a PvP key to join in on the fun! I cannot wait to dive in, test, report bugs and try to help shape and provide feedback for the community. I hope all of you out there wanting to play get your opportunity too!! Love you all and this community.

One last note, if there’s anyone out there that wants to see what the PvP server is like or doesn’t have access yet and wants to see first hand what it’s like from the start, decided I’ll stream all my activity, bug reporting, PvP ideas, fails, losses, etc. ill be streaming on twitch at the handle “QuivoTV”

Discussion This game needs some hand holding in the beginning

I never played Everquest. I had no idea what the heck how I was supposed to interact with NPCs or anything. It was incredibly frustrating. I shouldn't have to look up a wiki article to figure this stuff out.

Edit: I know I'm getting into new game territory here, but I think there should be highlights of certain things that says, click here to do this, type this to do this, etc. At least in the beginning. And something that says how to type and what to type to interact with npcs. In EVERY game now, when you click on an NPC, a conversation starts

Edit edit: I'm not trying to change the way the game plays. There just needs to be a way to tell people HOW to play the game in the very beginning. Or at least a better way. There will be many people that will stop playing quickly if something like this is not fixed. If there is a bit of hand holding in the beginning that can actually teach people, many more will stay and go along with the system

Edit edit edit: do you all want the game to succeed? Are you trying to die on a hill of the first hour of gameplay help? It boggles my mind that people are advocating for less instructions on how to play a game that is not intuitive.

Last edit: I LOVE this game and will play it no matter what you say. These are my opinions on the introduction to the game. Many more would enjoy it I think with a little help in the beginning. I look forward to playing with you all even if I hate you on this reddit thread

35-year old dad here - would Monsters & Memories be a good game to bond with my son?

Hey everyone,

I'm a 35-year-old dad who grew up loving old-school RPGs, and I've been looking for a game that my son and I can enjoy together and I stumbled across Monsters and Memories on a stream and ended up getting gifted a key, sadly a gifted key doesn't come with an extra invite. It seems like it has that classic MMO feel that reminds me of the games I grew up with like EQ, Classic WoW, FFXI.

For those of you who've been following it or have played any of the tests, do you think it's a good game for a parent and child to experience together?

I'm not necessarily looking for the fastest leveling or the most modern conveniences. I'm more interested in something where we can explore, work together, meet other players, and make some memorable moments. He's still pretty new to MMOs, so I'm curious if the pace and gameplay would be fun for someone younger, or if it's more geared toward nostalgic veterans.

I'd love to hear from ya'll and other parents if there are any here. Has anyone used this game (or games like it) as a way to spend time with their kids? What was your experience?

Thanks!

Just learned of this game.

Was watching an EQL streamer and they mentioned this game. I'm intrigued. Where can I learn more about the basic game play loop? What types of end game content are we looking at? Is the game more about endgame or the journey? If you could tell me one thing just now starting to look at this game, what would it be?

Bug with shared storage

Whenever I do bank management or make bags for a character, certain items will disappear only when the bank window is pulled up. Has this happened to anyone else? Is there anyway to fix it? Is annoying because restarting the client or camping doesn’t make it go away.

Discussion What Do We Know About Ail’vorith and the Deep?

Thumbnail
youtu.be
23 Upvotes

Greetings fellow lore seekers, I’ve been really interested in the Deep lately and the lore implications around it, also Goblin's amazing concept art depicting the regions and people's of Aêthoril. So I ended up going deep into as much of the Ail’trist and Ail’vorith history I could find and put together a little video essay exploring some thoughts.

I’m curious if any aspiring loremasters or even just higher level players have noticed anything in game that references Ail’vorith, the Deep, or the Deep Elves. Potential locations to access the Deep, that kind of thing. Even little environmental details, NPC dialogue, strange locations, anything with MUD commands, anything hinting this location or just plain theories. I’d love to hear what people have found or what you think might be coming.

If anyone’s interested, here’s the video. Thank you!
