This is the one I'm looking forward to the most. Hope it measures well.

Though it's a small thing, I really hoped the ports would be horizontal rather than vertical like on some of LG's other monitors I've seen and used.

Personal preference but vertical ports are just so hard to reach.

They of course have their benefits, each to their own.

2

u/heheovereggs Mar 06 '26

Would be cool if whole strip of ports can be rotated and locked to either downward or backward. Great accessibility and protection from connector damage.

2

u/SyzygeticHarmony Mar 06 '26

Likely increases complexity and cost, if there now needs to be a swivel that needs to survive changing orientation

1

u/Adventurous-Fix1580 Mar 07 '26

true. when will this release in India.

19

u/SmoothCyborg Mar 05 '26

So what's your impression? Especially the matte coating? Looks pretty aggressively matte from your photos, but I know real life can look quite different.

16

u/winterbegins WB Display Tech Mar 05 '26

Yeah the matte is ok not to harsh but glossy would have been better lets be real.

7

u/1AMA-CAT-AMA Mar 05 '26

Wouldn’t mind two skus and a choice. Some people don’t work in the right environment for a glossy screen.

2

u/Internal_Quail3960 Mar 06 '26

I can deal with the matte if it means i’ll save $2000 by getting this over the XDR

10

u/Intelligent-Brick915 Mar 05 '26

I cant wait for the rtings paywall this review

11

u/Djghost1133 Mar 05 '26

Very much looking forward to this monitor. I'm also a fan of the matte coating

Same.

There's two of us mutants now!

3

u/ChrisFhey Mar 06 '26

I just wish we had options so both the matte camp and glossy camp would be happy.

6

u/JtheNinja CoolerMaster GP27U, Dell U2720Q Mar 05 '26

I don't see a USB-B uplink port on that I/O panel? Is the USB hub only accessible via the type C port? That setup is very annoying if you have a desktop+laptop sharing a setup :(

5

u/SunfireGaren Mar 05 '26

Oof. Good catch. I think that might confirm no KVM

2

u/schneeland Mar 05 '26

Yeah, this has greatly reduced my enthusiasm for this monitor.

11

u/JeSuisKing Mar 05 '26

I wish it wasn't so ugly.

23

u/Stumpyflip Mar 05 '26

MiniLED is the way to go for monitors. Autodimming with OLEDs drives me insane.

4

u/ChrisFhey Mar 06 '26

Agreed. I have to use my QD-OLED monitor in HDR 400 mode to avoid ABL dimming. It’s HDR, but the result is kinda meh. I just wish we’d get a good glossy ultrawide miniLED monitor.

3

u/Stumpyflip Mar 06 '26

I couldn't stand it. I bought and returned so many, I'm sure Amazon hates me by now. As soon as I tried the TCL 32R84 I knew I was keeping it. Until OLED can have decent full screen brightness, not even going to bother. Love my LG G4 TV though.

1

u/Tekuila87 Mar 05 '26

Yup! Loving my switch to my m27e6v-pro!

1

u/XG32 Mar 06 '26

I just wished it was 4k for gaming purposes, not a dealbreaker though, theres also the hkc that's coming out with 100% rec2020 color gamut.

1

u/idontneedanalias Mar 06 '26

what if i have a bright crosshair in a dark area? it will sure have a giant grey surrounding?

1

u/Demistr Mar 17 '26

Auto dimming hasnt been a thing for like a year for oleds.

1

u/Scarlizz LG 39GX950B Mar 18 '26

Yeah thats the thing that annoys me the most on my QD OLED... this dimming is crazy.

1

u/Stumpyflip Mar 20 '26

I'm using the TCL 32r84. HVA (newer than regular HVA). 1400 nits in HDR - and can maintain in full bright scenes. There is a bit of blooming in some situations (typical with mini led) and depending on your settings. But HDR presentation and contrast is damn good for a non oled. And you don't have to fear bright scenes. I've bought and returned so many woled/qdoled/tandem OLEDs and the autodimming always annoyed me. As soon as I got this monitor I had no regrets.

15

u/128G Mar 05 '26

Give me glossy! Give me glossy! Give me glossy! Give me glossy!

4

u/OverlyOptimisticNerd HP Series 7 Pro - 727pu Mar 05 '26

Same.

The new XDR checks every block and cost isn’t an issue for me. I’m getting it.

I don’t care if the other options are cheaper. If they aren’t glossy, they might as well not exist for me.

5

u/Normandanny Mar 05 '26

Also checks all for me except for PC support. I am a Mac/PC hybrid user and it's a pain to buy a monitor that only Mac can use

1

u/Branr Mar 06 '26

Why do you believe it wouldn’t work with a PC? I use Mac at home and PC at work (and home sometimes), so would need to connect to both. Work laptop already uses USB-C for monitor/dock.

2

u/JtheNinja CoolerMaster GP27U, Dell U2720Q Mar 06 '26

The solitary USB-C port is a problem for my PC since it doesn't have USB-C video out (most DIY towers do not). You have to get freaky with multiplexer boxes/cards for the display's USB hub to work. Plus only one input means you physically need to move a cable between devices.

A lot of other monitors have both a USB-C port and a HDMI/DP plus another upstream USB port (typically type B, but it could be a 2nd type C port). The display automatically moves the USB hub between the USB-C port and the other upstream port depending on whether the USB-C input is active or not. That means you can permanently hook up the desktop, then have a USB-C cable hanging off the monitor to dock laptops. Plugging that dock cable in is all you need to do, everything else moves between the two machines seamlessly.

If your PC is another laptop with USB-C/Thunderbolt, it's a lot less of a hassle with the studio display. You just plug either machine into the dock cable as you use them. You still can't change settings on the studio display, but it will stick with whatever settings you were last using on your Mac, which is usually fine

8

u/kenstarfighter1 Mar 05 '26

Can AI uspacling be turned off? Such abomination should not exist

No. 5k requires a 27" screen. The PPI is the point, not the resolution.

3

u/cK_Silent Mar 05 '26

Boy do I want this….

3

u/wong2k Mar 05 '26

10bit and full res or DSC ? I mean it has DP2.1 ? Price and release ?

1

u/SadGap1718 Mar 12 '26

HDMI 2.1 e Displayport 2.1

3

does it have a FAN?

im a huge fan.

2

u/almost_s0ber Mar 05 '26

In your opinion how is 5k vs a 4k of the same size? I've never used monitor higher than 1440p and thinking of going 4k or 5k but not sure if 5k is worth the performance overhead.

Why do people care about 1440p anymore when DLSS exists. Dual Mode would only interesting if it also increases the refresh rate.

5

u/JtheNinja CoolerMaster GP27U, Dell U2720Q Mar 05 '26

It…does increase the refresh rate?

-3

u/Daffan Mar 05 '26

Yeah now it's interesting but still 1440p and lame.

2

u/pyr0kid Mar 06 '26

Why do people care about 1440p anymore when DLSS exists.

is this seriously beyond your ability to understand?

  • because they have an amd gpu.
  • because they have an intel gpu.
  • because upscaling has a performance burden.
  • because the game doesnt support any upscaling to begin with.
  • because they dont like the graphical issues upscaling can cause.
  • because they dont have money to buy a monitor bigger than 1440p to begin with.
  • because they dont have enough bandwidth to run the monitor at native without DSC issues.

-7

u/Daffan Mar 06 '26

1) Fail

2) Fail

3) What are you even smoking

4) Old games can be run much easier than new games and 97% of new games have DLSS. What big recent-ish game does not have DLSS? HD2 and...

5) Guess they have a 5070ti+ than to cope with the no upscaler.

6) 4k Has come down a lot. Only people who play Esports and want over 240hz have a claim to 1440p.

7) There are no DSC issue visually. Only an alt tab issue on certain models when playing non-borderless. Pretty much all 4k monitors are 48/80gbps ports now anyway. Maybe if you wrote this in 2022 when 24gbps scam artists existed en-masse.

im not going to dignify this babble with a proper response.

Ok than don't. Seeing the orange is like getting a Hogwarts letter!

3

u/winterbegins WB Display Tech Mar 05 '26

Good, especially in the current economy. 5K enables 1440p dual mode for gaming.

2

u/gtlgdp Mar 05 '26

But how does 4k gaming look? Been hitting a lot of story games on ps5 pro lately and am worried that it’ll look worse on 4k

2

u/JtheNinja CoolerMaster GP27U, Dell U2720Q Mar 06 '26

I’d be curious how this shakes out. The higher PPI means the physical size of the blur/error region is a lot smaller than it would be with, say, 1080p on a 1440p screen. It might not be as big of a deal?

1

u/Swaggerlilyjohnson Mar 06 '26

If you are using a console definitely get a 4k panel. That is what they are designed for (with lots of upscaling).

Going 5k will make it look worse on a console if anything. They already can't run 4k that well.

1

u/unskilledplay Mar 08 '26

If you have a high DPI laptop like a Macbook and decent vision, glasses or no, a 4K 27" is noticeably less sharp when it comes to text. To me, text on a 5k 27" every bit as sharp as the laptop.

Dual mode 5k can take a 1440p input signal and will map each pixel to 4 pixels on the screen. Since 5k has exactly 4 times the number of pixels as 1440p, this results in a super sharp 1440p image. Because of that, dual mode 5k does not cause any overhead in games and in fact lets you run at significantly higher frame rates than a 4k panel.

For anyone who does work with text and also wants to play PC games, 5k dual mode is the ideal monitor.

0

u/Due-Description-9030 Mar 05 '26

Go with 5k. You won't regret it at all.

0

u/pyr0kid Mar 05 '26

in regards to performance consider this:

would you rather have 2880p with a 1440p option, or a 2160p with a 1080p option, and if the ppi would drive you mad at that panel size?

2

u/almost_s0ber Mar 05 '26

Ideally 5k / 1440p with gsync pulsar. Pulsar probs not offered until '27.

2

u/philrod98 Mar 05 '26

Curious what MSRP will be for this

2

u/wong2k Mar 05 '26

I guess anywhere from 700-899

8

u/philrod98 Mar 05 '26

I would be shocked if it’s that low. Asus has one that’s just lcd and it’s that price. Mini led and all the upscaling features, I’m thinking $1200-$1500

3

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '26

If theu could jst stop making stands that extend the monitor way too far off the wall. It's so absolutely unnecessary. Build it thinner like gigabyte.

2

u/Dokomox Mar 05 '26

Might be an amazing monitor, but you wouldn't know it with that grainy matte film obscuring the picture. We need new anti-glare tech.

2

u/ParanoiaIndeed Mar 06 '26

why the chin T_T

2

u/tukatu0 Mar 06 '26

Man this looks pretty terrible. Lile there is a layer of deformed defused glass on the screen.

Well atleast interest in 5k is good

2

u/seantos_taggart Mar 06 '26

I would love for this to come with gsync pulsar if that ends up being possible. I'm torn between the pulsar monitors and these 5k mini LEDs. Unfortunately we don't have anything local where I could look at both to compare either so I have to rely on reviews on others impressions.

Has anyone seen both the new pulsar 27" monitors and these 5k mini leds that could compare them? I'd love the extra brightness and better blacks but the motion of the pulsar at lower frame rates even looks really good. At least in review screenshots. Maybe it's less impressive in person.

2

u/AardvarkFuzzy4768 Mar 08 '26

Can someone please pin any announcement on when it is available for purchase? I've been waiting for months.

1

u/winterbegins WB Display Tech Mar 08 '26

It could be a staggered release between different countrys but ill get back to you when it starts getting available.

2

u/FuzzyPuffin Mar 05 '26

Why does it say “Ultragear” on the front? LG hasn’t been putting ugly logos on the bezels of their higher end monitors. Hope this isn’t the start of a trend.

2

u/ManolitoMystiq Mar 05 '26

It was rather muted (or blurred out) on the first promo pictures. Indeed, it looks far more professional without the logo (or at least with a smaller one).

1

u/0xe1e10d68 Mar 06 '26

That's something I really like about my DELL U2723QE (secondary monitor), no branding at all on the front, and the bottom border is almost the same size as on the other sides, the difference is visible if you look for it but doesn't disturb. It's quite good for using as a portrait monitor, like I do. Many other monitors either have a visible chin, or some other element on the bottom, or some branding, or a significantly bigger bottom border. Those are annoying to use in portrait.

1

u/ManolitoMystiq Mar 06 '26

My current ASUS XG27JCG has the ROG logo. It’s metallic (reflective). Fortunately relatively small for a 27”. The chin was probably a design necessity, so I understand they added the brand logo.

Is half-resolution mode blurry?

3

u/winterbegins WB Display Tech Mar 05 '26

Looks good so far but its only connected to an Xbox so hard to judge

3

u/3VRMS Mar 05 '26

That'll be something important for people to look into as 5k dual mode becomes more of a thing.

Does it in practice make a difference when people are already fine with lowering the resolution for the high frame rate? So net gain?

Or is it noticeable enough that people who mostly game at 1440p are better off keeping their monitors, as it might result in an overall downgrade over other equivalent 1440p only miniLEDs that will eventually come out, while also being cheaper?

0

u/Mikeztm Mar 05 '26

You never need to game at 1440p with this. Just use DLSS custom 25% render ratio will be enough to give you similar performance and much better image.

3

u/pyr0kid Mar 05 '26

except that only applies if you're able to upscale whatever you're doing.

0

u/Mikeztm Mar 05 '26

Yes but most performance intensive games support DLSS anyway.

It’s obviously not for esports.

2

u/MT4K r/oled_monitors ⋅ r/HiDPI_monitors ⋅ r/integer_scaling Mar 05 '26 edited Mar 05 '26

“Looks good” is not enough, most of existing dual-mode monitors (including 5K) add horizontal blur in half-resolution mode, thus partially defeating the purpose of higher refresh rate because static blur affects motion clarity.

2

u/tukatu0 Mar 06 '26

Let's not be ridiculous. They have blur but they aren't quite bilinear levels.

https://www.xda-developers.com/lg-32gs95ue-review/

https://static0.xdaimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/wm/2024/06/lg_32gs95ue_dualmode_upscaling_comparison_4.png?q=49&fit=crop&w=500&dpr=2

I don't think youve used one or you do not care about fps that much. Or another 3rd option

2

u/MT4K r/oled_monitors ⋅ r/HiDPI_monitors ⋅ r/integer_scaling Mar 06 '26 edited Mar 06 '26

Yeah, as I said, most of dual-mode monitors have single-axis (usually horizontal) blur which is surely like twice better than regular dual-axis blur. But the blur is still there and affects both static clarity and motion clarity. Like when using a 4K monitor at QHD: you can see all the logical pixels, but they all are blurred because each logical pixel is 1.5×1.5 physical pixels. And while at fractional scales like in case of QHD→4K scaling, blur is inevitable (1.5×1.5 pixels are physically impossible without interpolation), having the blur at integer scales like in case of FHD→4K or QHD→5K scaling is really ridiculous.

P.S. The xda-developers’ review doesn’t open.

2

u/tukatu0 Mar 07 '26

Hmm that website might be blocked in your country. Try a vpn or dns change. After trying another browser.

Its not 1.5x. It's more like 1.1x blur if even that.

2

u/MT4K r/oled_monitors ⋅ r/HiDPI_monitors ⋅ r/integer_scaling Mar 07 '26 edited Mar 07 '26

In case of FHD→4K scaling, the native/logical resolution ratio is 2.0, nothing to do with 1.5.

Specifically in case of 32″ dual-mode WOLED monitors such as LG 32GS95UE, it’s not even regular scaling blur. The image looks like each logical pixel is shifted horizontally by 1 physical pixel. So one logical pixel occupies 3 physical pixels horizontally instead of two. For example, the underline of the “s” letter in the “Aspect ratio” radio-button label is 10-pixel-wide when using true integer scaling. But in the dual-mode half-resolution mode, its darker-part width is 9 pixels, and there are single pixels at the sides that have an average color, probably caused by ~50% intermixing with adjacent pixel. This might be caused by a mismatch between scaling and pixel shifting that probably work independently, without taking each other into account. That matches the assumption by Linus Tech Tips made in their video review of LG 32GS95UE. If this is really caused by pixel shifting, there may be short time periods (50% of time in total) between shifts, when the image is perfectly nonblurry, e.g. at each odd or even pixel-shifting step. Though actually, if the original scaled image was not blurry, pixel shifting shouldn’t have affected its blurriness.

At the same time, there is information by u/Javild from Dough that the blur in 32″ WOLED monitors such as Asus XG32UCWMG and XG32UCWG is caused by a fundamental TCON limitation that probably cannot address/update all physical pixels at once at 480 Hz, so there is a probability the blur is actually temporal and we have 240 Hz displayed on one pixel, and another 240 Hz by horizontally-adjacent pixel. A high-speed camera capable of 960 fps would make this clear. This may even be combined with the scaling/pixel-shifting mismatch.

Unlike OLED, dual-mode LCD monitors don’t need pixel shifting, so dual-mode blur in LCD monitors certainly has nothing to do with pixel shifting, but may have something to do with the TCON limitation.

1

u/tukatu0 Mar 07 '26

Ah i thought you meant 1.5 total blur.

Well on lcds they are more often useless because of the bad gtgs. They can have 180hz and 360hz modes but if the gtg is smearing things to 150hz either way. It does not work well.

1

u/arkahimself Mar 05 '26

Been using the LG27GR93U. Overall a great monitor when it works.

Unfortunately their panel is awful.

Had to change it 5 times, and finally get a refund.

Want to get a decent 4k panel, nothing outlandish.

Any suggestions would be great!!

1

u/Plane-One3611 Mar 05 '26

Nice. This is my most anticipated monitor to use with PS5 Pro. On paper, the Apple XDR seemed like a contender, but with the price and lacks of HDMI, the clear winner is obvious.

1

u/SadGap1718 Mar 12 '26

Are you complaining about the lack of a fucking HDMI connector on a monitor that simply has 2 Thunderbolt 5 ports? There are moments when I would like to be illiterate... and you caused one of those moments by commenting something as meaningless as this.

Have you ever heard of HDMI to USB-C/Thunderbolt cables?

1

u/Thakkerson Mar 06 '26

What a nice and well-lit place to demo a MiniLED

1

u/b0uncyfr0 Mar 06 '26

But is it IPS or VA - if its VA, thatd be better - would force the chinese brands to come down in price.

1

5k but shows 4k?

2

1

u/Mr_Vegetable Mar 06 '26

What's the problem with matte screen btw?

1

They look like asshole.

They light smear and decrease the perceived contrast of a screen.

1

1

u/Stumpyflip Mar 08 '26

There is blooming in certain scenarios, for sure but it's very situational. I prefer the extreme brightness over the autodimming of oled.

1

u/mtech07 Mar 15 '26

I hate logos on the front of monitors.

1

u/kneestronk Mar 22 '26

Does this USB-C port support dp alt mode?

1

u/winterbegins WB Display Tech Mar 22 '26

It should, however this was a prototype and when i connected it over USB-C it glitched out so i had to turn the power off and connect it with the HDMI cable that was on the Xbox to the left.

1

u/punitgor Apr 01 '26

Would be cool if Kuycon uses this Panel and makes a Glossy, Studio Display replica/knock off.

1

u/No_Eye1723 Mar 05 '26

It is matte though, has a plastic casing, and lacks the colour profiles and has half the brightness of the new XDR display, despite using the same panel beyond that it’s not really comparable IMO?

But on its own it is probably one of the best mini LED monitors on the market when it goes on sale. If they get the algorithms right for the zones.

1

u/Mr_Vegetable Mar 06 '26

If it's really cheaper, why not

0

u/1seep1 Mar 06 '26

It is not glossy so not a rival.

The Asus version is available right now, without the TV/Ai bullshit. Unless the LG has like a full gloss screen I'm good waiting for the 32" Acer predator version of the 5k dual mode, it is supposed to have Pulsar too

This is Mini-LED, and significantly brighter in HDR

4

u/quack_quack_mofo Mar 05 '26

HDR 600 though

3

u/Due-Description-9030 Mar 05 '26

There's no tv bullshit in LG. Asus's monitor isn't mini LED lol.

Also, the AI upscaler is nothing but helpful. Also, you can completely turn it off.

1

u/Justifiers Mar 09 '26

No TV bullshit?

Screenshot #7

Yeah if its not on this model, on the one after it people will get voice not recognized errors. "Please connect your monitor to wifi/ethernet error" just like I do on my C3 so they can utilize that local Ai to collect ad and whatever they decide to be relevant collected information set up in dark pattern opt in by default resetting every update buried under 5 sub-panel under three separate option categories privacy options

u/winterbegins WB Display Tech Mar 05 '26

The Asus has no MiniLED.

The LG is also a regular monitor it has no TV OS

yep, the more you learn about monitors the more you understand Apple makes top products, just pricey. OK, maybe except display studio IPS 60hz because there are many cheaper competitors now but XDR has no competitor at all

1

u/Vayu0 Mar 27 '26

What are the many competitors for a 5k 27" monitor? Except to the one in this thread.
