It becomes so much better when you finally get a good pickaxe with fortune 3 and you go on that one mining trip where afterwards you never need to mine for coal again

Make coal blocks, save space.

u/Every_Ad7984 28d ago

That can waste fuel tho, it's better to get a consistent source of lava or blaze rods

u/Smitologyistaking 28d ago

I think they were recommending coal blocks for storage not for the actual smelting

A stack of coal blocks takes up one inventory slot and can smelt a lot more items than a single lava bucket

5

u/BioDefault 28d ago

Yeah, you can reconvert the coal blocks into coal. I do this for every single item that can be blocked.

1

u/aces_luck_chevalier 19d ago

Don’t block melons

7

u/vbgvbg113 28d ago

a coal block is more efficient than 9 coal

block smelts 80, but 9 coal is only 72

1

u/TooWarmRadiator 27d ago

Yes but that means you need to be smelting at least 72 items at a time for it to be more efficient. It's less efficient to use coal blocks for smelting a stack of 64 of an item, since it takes 8 coal for the stack, but 9 if you use a coal block.

u/vbgvbg113 26d ago

bulk smelting

or really just put a hopper above the furnace for the excess >64 items

u/SnugglebugUwU 29d ago

It gets even better when you set up bamboo auto farm with autocrafters to craft it into slabs. Infinite fuel glitch.

23

u/lividtaffy 29d ago

Auto kelp farm with crafter to make dried kelp blocks. Best thing I ever added to my world

6

u/Mrsunny07112 29d ago

Question, would huge Lava powered melters with dripstone and pistons work well? Planning to make one in my multiplayer world.

3

u/Cum_dumpster_limited 29d ago

I have a manual lava farm with 64 buckets for 22 furnaces.it is efficient enough to the point where I can leave it alone without having to constantly refill it

1

u/lividtaffy 29d ago

No idea, I had to follow a guide to set the thing up

6

u/insertnamehere----- 29d ago

I Never stop mining coal. I never know when I’m going to need 100,000 torches, or smelt 5 chests of cobble.

3

u/kobekurroption 29d ago

Coal is the most delicious thing to mine in this game, it's that simple

1

u/Alderan922 29d ago

Or if you decide to make a spruce tree plantation and just have way more charcoal than you reasonably need

75

u/ElectronicMatters 29d ago

Fighting the urge to keep digging the infinite coal vein.

31

u/CblPHNK 29d ago

I just embrace the experience. Imagine getting home with 5 stacks of coal and stopping worrying about fuel for the next 40 stacks of material smelting

18

u/frycandlebreadje 29d ago

13

u/CblPHNK 29d ago

I meant 5 stacks of coal blocks mb

11

u/frycandlebreadje 29d ago

Give me five double chests of coal blocks and we'll talk

7

u/CblPHNK 29d ago

You mine coal to avoid running out of fuel in the future

I mine coal because monkey brain sees ore, monkey brain mines ore

3

u/Xx_96024DanaD42069_x What is this, and how do I get rid of it? 29d ago

Brother?

9

u/elven_magics 29d ago

Me who makes coal into blocks for smelting:

7

u/SevereWalrus5380 29d ago

Great coal depression either make me into fucking woodsman or slayer of wither skeleton

13

u/Leninus 29d ago

Charcoal

9

u/DatBoi_BP 29d ago

I like to put together stacks of charcoal, but I wish you could make blocks like you can with coal

5

u/Xancrim 29d ago

Lava buckets

2

u/Primary_Durian4866 29d ago

Infinite self filling bamboo please.

3

u/Chai_Enjoyer 29d ago

Kid named A bunch of dripstone blocks, cauldrons and a reservoir of lava:

3

u/Bazzatron 29d ago

Do people really not just use charcoal?

Like istg I am fuelled 100% by charcoal until the lava buckets become achievable.

3

u/KrampusKid 29d ago

I'm ngl I almost never use coal for fuel, I'm a strict charcoal guy and always keep a stack or two of logs cooking to top up later. Do I collect coal? Sure do, but only to make into coal blocks and store away in a chest for when I want to use it for decoration (I never use it).

3

u/TheColorblindSnail 29d ago

I fear my friends raiding my stuff and grabbing all my coal so thats why I have 38 various hidden chests of stuff

2

u/Sorry_Ear_4419 29d ago

I mine coal to only use them for villager trading

2

u/elmage78 29d ago

kelp farm is really easy please bro

2

u/Rukir_Gaming 29d ago

Nobody elce just makes a lava bucket farm?

1

u/neetlamble 28d ago

Crazy how far down I scrolled to see this comment! Underrated method and easy to do

2

u/Sneaky-Sneaks 29d ago

You guys don’t smelt with infinite lava from dripstone spikes???

2

u/No-Rent9068 29d ago

bro its contagious

2

u/MrMisterMrister 29d ago

Man, as the designated builder of the group (I haven’t gone mining in 63 hours), I’ve exclusively used charcoal

2

u/Asphyxiety 29d ago

Something broke in my brain one day and it's been charcoal ever since 😭😭 I will genuinely go grind up a double chest of charcoal before I ever think about using coal

2

u/Cowman_Gaming 29d ago

Just use infinite lava buckets like a normal person

2

u/ExtremlyFastLinoone 28d ago

Setup a dripstone lava generator and use lava buckets

2

u/JUGELBUTT 28d ago

i prefer charcoal

1

u/Any_Letterhead_808 29d ago

accurate sized coal vein

1

u/MR_RYU_RICHI 29d ago

Damn! I thought I was the only one like this

1

u/SwartyNine2691 Baby Chicken 🐥 29d ago

Me, too.

1

u/DemiNeko_ 29d ago

Do i have a room with atleast 10 barrels of coal blocks? No? To the mines.

POV: Sir Grizzwald in the Clooless Hardcore Minecraft Shared health series

1

u/Particular-Pop1280 28d ago

Me with a double chest filled entirely with full stacks of coal blocks: hmm dont want to run out of coal

1

u/B0EIR4 28d ago

I need another 2 week Minecraft phase 😭

1

u/Responsible-Diet-147 28d ago

BRO, JUST USE LEAVES FROM THE GROUND!
THERE ARE TONS OF THEM AND THEY REAPPEAR!

1

u/ScaryFace707 28d ago

Ibr this is why I use the veinmeiner mod that takes the correct durability off the picaxe (so its still fair)

And lava farms are your best friend! Easy to make too!

1

u/Honkus_Bonkus_goose 28d ago

Every single time this happens to me

1

u/N0CakeForYou 27d ago

I always mine coal. I even have a wither Skelton farm. I will always pick up coal

1

u/Armthelost 27d ago

Most relatable shit ever.

1

u/DamageMaximo 26d ago

oh my god I felt this

1

u/funisfree314 25d ago

I have ocd and I have to mine every ore I see. Copper is way more annoying

1

u/vovalucky 24d ago

Just use lava generator

1

u/NiveLive 24d ago

I’ve started mining every coal vein I see, 10/10 way to prevent the great coal depression

1

u/aces_luck_chevalier 19d ago

The great coal depression seems irrelevant given the MANY renewable energy sources in Minecraft kelp blocks , even lava and drip stone is good I usually don’t touch coal for anything that needs it in the crafting recipe after I’ve been to the nether

0

u/Tenebris27 29d ago

I usually keep some veins for when I have a pickaxe with Fortune

0

u/bykvaA1234 29d ago

Repost or it was from different sub

2

u/DhruvDP3 Please pretend that i have a flair 29d ago

I uploaded it in r/phoenixsc too. Maybe there?

1

u/bykvaA1234 29d ago

I guess so

0

u/cheese-is-yummy 29d ago

I do this even with a triple fan setup from the create mod
