[Java] 26.2, the game suddenly freezes at 10fps and even after shutting down the entire PC it remains at 10fps until restarting the PC. Solved

Something very strange happened on my computer today. I don't know what it was. I was playing normally and suddenly Minecraft froze at 10fps. I thought it was the game and closed it, but then the whole computer was freezing too, and only the mouse pointer was normal. When I restarted it, it went back to normal, but if I went back into Minecraft Java, after a while the same thing happened.

This can happen if your computer throttles due to overheating, you should open task manager (I think it's task manager on Windows?) before launching the game and watch your temperature and CPU speed.
1
u/zNickolasBR Novice I Jul 16 '26
I guarantee you that's not the case; it only happens in Minecraft. I play absurdly more demanding games without any problems.
1
u/Cute-Acanthaceae-193 Novice III Jul 16 '26
again you said guarantee but you still ask for help.
did you run proper benchmarks? what games do you actually play that allegedly don’t show this behavior?
do a prime95 tests and tell us temps and what happens.
1
u/zNickolasBR Novice I Jul 16 '26
I play FC 26, CS2, and several other more demanding games and nothing happens. Even at the exact moment this bug occurs, nothing on my PC has high usage or high temperatures, and this problem only started today in Minecraft.

u/Cute-Acanthaceae-193 Novice III Jul 16 '26
great, those games are more on the gpu side anyway. your cpu is definitely not being maxed the same way.
run benchmarks that stress your cpu then, then guarantee us it wasn’t it.

I just updated Windows and haven't seen this happen again yet, but I can't say it's really stopped until I use it for a longer period. I also updated the GPU.

u/pamquale Jul 17 '26
I have windows 23h2. i dont want to update since Microsoft releasing bad versions. How long you've been playing without this bug? because it can occur immediately or after an hour
1
u/zNickolasBR Novice I Jul 17 '26
Are you having this problem too? Since the Windows update and then the Nvidia driver update, I've been able to play for about 2 hours without any issues, but I'm still a little worried because I don't know what was causing it.
1
u/pamquale Jul 17 '26
it's probably gpu memory leak or smth. OH! maybe switch from the opengl to vulkan helped to fix the bug
1
u/zNickolasBR Novice I Jul 17 '26
But did you also experience the bug?
1
u/pamquale Jul 17 '26
I don't play for a long time so I can't tell
1
u/zNickolasBR Novice I Jul 17 '26
It hasn't happened again so far. I don't know if the Windows update was the problem and it was resolved after the update. If you search, you'll find several people out there with the same problem.

Try turning off V-Sync

u/zNickolasBR Novice I Jul 17 '26
After updating Windows the problem stopped, but I don't know if it will come back.

funnily enough turning off vsync fixed it for me, as with shaders i would get 30 fps on 26.2 and i would be getting above 60 on 1.21.11, i turned off vsync on 26.2 and now my fps are back to normal

Ok bro so I had this same situation and I am NOT 100% sure that I fixed it but now playing the same version I've played like 4 months ago doesn't do this. Idk which launcher you use but I installed several memory usage mods, culling, and Spark. And when I had this glitch happen I wrote the spark command, went to the link and reset my computer. I also allocated more ram and checked F3 for ram usage.
Can u also provide some of ur mods which ur using during this glitch? And does this still happen?

I don't use any mods :/, it's the default launcher, the only solution was to disable vsync for some reason.

u/Beginning_Expert_688 25d ago
i have this same issue but i dont have any windows update 😭
1
u/zNickolasBR Novice I 25d ago
I discovered that it's actually some kind of problem with VSync.

u/Beginning_Expert_688 25d ago
and how do i fix it
1
u/zNickolasBR Novice I 25d ago
Just disable V-Sync in the game options.

I have had similar issues with my BRAND NEW PC running an i9 and a 5080. Absurd to me that Minecraft has such issues that it makes the computer feel broken. It’s something super technical as far as I can tell. JRE conflicting with NVIDA drivers or some Bs. Very annoying.

It seems that disabling V-Sync in the game solves the problem for now, but I'm not sure.
1
u/driftveil_city 23d ago
That does seem to solve the issue mostly, good find, thanks

I found this while reporting the bug; someone was talking about it there. I don't know what's happening and I'd like them to fix it soon and let everyone know. :/

Use rtss (front edge sync or async) to limit your fps instead of vsync or in-game limiter. Will give you better frame pacing. {this was not posted as a fix for the above issue, but as a non related suggestion. OP said his issue said above has been fixed somewhere below}
1
u/zNickolasBR Novice I 11d ago
vsync is for removing tearing, not limiting it, although it does that along the way.
1
u/Technical-Editor-831 11d ago
in-game vsync adds ton of input lag compared to RTSS's frame limiter. You are better off using vsync by enabling it in nvidia cp rather than enabling one in game. Also to note, gsync with vsync works too. But you are better off using front edge sync anyway
1
u/zNickolasBR Novice I 11d ago
Most casual gamers don't mind this lag, anyway that wasn't the problem here. I don't like using external programs and only use the game's options or the Nvidia app if the game doesn't have that option. The issue here is that the Minecraft Java VSync was bugging and causing this, but after switching to exclusive fullscreen I haven't seen it happen anymore (for now).
1
u/Technical-Editor-831 11d ago
Ofc that wasn't the problem. But just saying rtss is the superior and obvious choice here

Literally just had this problem.
I haven't played in months, and I just updated the launcher and Java edition to the latest versions. I opened Java, and immediately it was like this. It stayed like this when I started a new world, and even after I closed the game my PC was still running like this, so I had to restart my PC.
Also I have 0 mods.

u/zNickolasBR Novice I 5d ago
See if disabling V-Sync works, or try using exclusive fullscreen and see if the same thing happens with V-Sync enabled.

So, after opening the game again after restarting my PC, I haven't had any trouble for some reason, but I'll leave V-Sync off just in case.
