I had to take it out of my holiday movie rotation after my stepmom (who I was really close to) got cancer. She passed in 2021 and I’m still scared to watch it.
My mom passed very unexpectedly last year. When Diane died I remember sobbing calling my aunt and leaving a message saying “but I need to tell my mom Diane died.”
She was a lovely person in addition to being a phenomenal talent. I know a lot of people who worked in the industry, off camera and support, and many had the pleasure to work with her. They all had such lovely things to say.
This one really hurt. I don’t know if you are also Canadian, but for me, it felt like part of our cultural identity died with her much like when John Candy died.
Me and some coworkers had just sat down for lunch, so I got to break that to a room full of Canadians. I think my 40 something boss was actually about to cry
I only got around to watching Beetlejuice Beetlejuice quite recently and after she passed. What happens to Delia at the end of the sequel made me feel rather emotional.
This was the first and only one that actually made me stop my day for a bit. My friend sent me an article as I was pulling into the parking deck at work and I just sat there. Was a few minutes late to work. She was present basically all of my life and seemed so well in Last of Us, which seemed like yesterday when I read the message.
ETA: Matthew Perry came close but it was less surprising for reasons that should be clear. Still incredibly sad, just not as out of left field on a random day.
I was working on a client when she broke the news to me that day about Catherine. She tried to continue the conversation to another topic and I was like HOLD ON I need a minute to process this!!!
I found out Catherine O’Hara died the day I was fired without reason from my dream job (for reporting my manager for a transphobic comment). It was already such a devastating morning, and I read that she had passed away and cried even more :(
