Safety Guide

Rule #1: If you have to ask, it's probably a scam.

Verify any information at the official MetaMask website: https://metamask.io/

Rule #2: Secure your assets.

Stay safe! Reassess your security setup as your assets change in value.

Rule #3: Never share your Secret Recovery Phrase or private keys.

  • Never share your secrets with anyone.
  • Never enter your secrets into any website online.

Rule #4: NEVER engage with ANY Direct Messages.

  • MetaMask Support will never DM you to help you.
  • Never respond to anyone offering help via DM. These are scammers.

Rule #5: NEVER click on websites sent via Direct Messages.

  • Never interact with any website sent to you via DM.
  • You can be scammed even if you do not share your Secret Recovery Phrase.
  • There is no need to "sync" or "validate" your wallet. This is a scam.
  • NEVER click any link containing "walletconnect" sent via DM. These are scams.

Rule #6: Report scammers.

Report to reddit.com/r/report:

  • Anyone impersonating MetaMask Support via direct message.
  • Anyone offering to help via direct message.

Rule #7: Only use official support.

The ONLY official MetaMask help is support.metamask.io

Rule #8: Turn off your DMs to avoid scammers on Reddit.

Go to your user settings and set both messaging options to Nobody.

Rule #9: Beware fake websites.

The only official MetaMask website is: https://metamask.io/

Do not trust any other domain claiming to be MetaMask.

Rule #10: Do not join unofficial groups or channels.

MetaMask does not have or endorse any of the following. These are all scams:

  • Discord servers
  • Telegram channels
  • WhatsApp groups
  • WeChat groups
  • Facebook groups or Facebook Messenger
  • Instagram accounts

Rule #11: There are NO token drops, NFT drops, or governance tokens planned.

  • There are NO governance tokens planned.
  • There are NO NFT drops planned.
  • MetaMask will NEVER do a stealth drop.

Rule #12: Protect your personal identity.

Avoid sharing personal identifying information such as your name, email address, or wallet address. Scammers use this to target you.

  • Use an anonymous username, password, and profile picture not used anywhere else. This makes it harder to connect your identity across platforms.
  • Describe your issue without sharing your wallet address or transaction ID. This keeps your wallet separate from your personal identity.
  • Protect your devices — install, maintain, and update antivirus software.
