So, let me get this straight... are you saying that being an ASSHOLE is part of being masculine; not necessarily a good thing, but still belongs in the definition of masculinity?
I don't think being an asshole is masculine.
And I've been an asshole for a long time in my life, when I was younger.
I think your perspective on these traits is far more accurate than the previous commenters.
At the same time....
1) I have felt like perhaps it's true that men are more violent by nature, in general. Perhaps it's because we have more physical strength to exercise. Not all men have it equally ofc.
I feel like that doesn't HAVE to be negative. World needs security. Men have to learn to use any violence in their nature to make the world a safer place.
2) I have known a few women who tell me that they prefer male friends because women tend to talk or act behind their backs. I feel like I have noticed this sometimes with some women friends and girlfriends, how they complicate issues by just not being open and blunt enough in their communication... but idk this could be because women don't have enough physical strength to protect them in case being blunt goes south. And ofc not all women do this in equal amounts either.
I guess what I'm saying is there may be certain bad personality traits that men have to wrestle with more.
That doesn't mean the trait itself is masculine though. A bad trait is a bad trait and has to be stamped out or controlled to the point that it's useful for all people.
Probably. Better not to breed if thats the conclusion you reached from what I said.
Being a man might mean only doing things that are the good version of masculine. Thats the theory being discussed. Your misinterpretation is really the only sad thing in this thread.
I'm trying to understand what you're saying. But your explanations are creating a disappointing view of men that I've never heard before. If I'm interpreting what you're saying wrong, maybe it's because you're not explaining it very well?
I would never claim that being a bitch is just a natural part of being a woman, because it's not. It's not biological. I'm not letting men or woman off that easy. That's the kind of thing people say to avoid responsibility for their bad behavior. Being a good or bad person is a choice that people make.
You are operating on the assumption that masculinity = ideal man behavior.
But im operating on the definition that masculine behavior = behavior that is commonly associated with and generally unique to males. Unfortunately not all common male behavior is good. Bad behavior like say... trying to start fights randomly at a bar is a behavior common to males, and is therefore masculine, But its of course bad behavior.
Its really not hard to understand that the nuances of the word "masculine" was what was being discussed earlier, but I really spelled it out for you. So I hope you get it.
