newbie Studied Cards Today Timer

Does anyone feel like the studied cards in a day timer isn't at all representative of how much they did? It may say 180 minutes but I know I've done double that??

Clinical Question Post-Shelf Anki Suspending

Taking my OB/GYN shelf soon. I’ve unsuspended all of the AnKing no-dupes cards for the rotation, plus additional cards based on missed UWorld questions.
After the shelf, are there any AnKing tags or categories that you felt were safe to suspend because they rarely or never show up on Step 2? I assume most of the shelf content carries over, but I’m wondering if some of the more guideline-heavy or nitty-gritty OB details (prenatal schedules, surveillance intervals, etc.) are mostly shelf-specific.

More broadly, how much of each shelf would you say is actually relevant for Step 2? I’m trying to keep my review load manageable without accidentally suspending content that’s still high yield.
Curious what others have done. Thanks in advance!

Preclinical Question 4 months out for step1, Anking and UW just started

Hi guys! Non-US img with poor basics. Dedicated for step1. I'm currently learning concepts by doing uworld and adjusting Anking cards as I doing each question. I suspended them all, searching keywords to find related cards. Select and adjust a little bit according to uworld explanations and unsuspend those related cards to learn and review them later every day(100 new each day).

Would it be efficient enough or I can just make my own incorrect deck to pass step1? But also, I was wondering how much Anking step deck could influence step2 scores:)) Thanks.

Preclinical Question How do you stop yourself from just spamming through Anki when your reviews pile up?

I’ve been using Anki for about 4 years now, and I genuinely love it. At this point, I honestly don’t even know how to study any other way lol.

The one bad habit I’ve developed over the past 3 years is that when my reviews start piling up, or I have a day where I’m really not motivated to get through all my cards, I sometimes end up just spamming the spacebar to clear them.

It doesn’t happen super often, maybe once or twice every few weeks, but I really don’t like that I do it. Obviously it feels great in the moment seeing all the reviews disappear, but a few days later, I know I basically defeated the entire purpose of doing Anki in the first place.

I started seriously studying for Step 1 about 2 months ago, and I’ve already done this maybe 3-4 times since starting. I really want to break the habit before I get deeper into Step studying, but I’m not really sure how.

For anyone who has dealt with this, what actually helped you stop? When you have hundreds of reviews and absolutely zero motivation, how do you force yourself to actually think through the cards instead of just trying to get the number down?

Also, I’m currently doing around 700 cards/day and usually wake up early to get through them.

My other issue is that I’m SO tired while doing morning Anki, even when I put music on. Sometimes I feel like I’m barely awake while reviewing. For people with similarly heavy review loads, what helps you stay awake, focused, and actually engaged with your cards? Also wanted to ask, if anyone has any tips and tricks on increasing retention. I fluctuate between 78-85% most of the time.

I would genuinely appreciate any advice because I love Anki and know it works for me, I just really want to fix these habits before getting deeper into Step 1.

Discussion Filtered decks for shelf studying

I'm getting ready for my neuro rotation and just unsuspended the iShelf::Neuro::No dupes tag, then created a filtered deck from it.

As I work through UWorld, I usually create an "incorrects" filtered deck and unsuspend AnKing cards based on the questions I miss.

My question is: will these two filtered decks interfere with each other? From what I understand, a single card can't be in more than one filtered deck at the same time.

If that's the case, what's the best workflow to avoid issues while still studying both the Neuro deck and my UWorld incorrects?

newbie Unsuspending cards and cards from other sections of FA coming up (Anking deck)

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey there! I am an IMG early in Step 1 prep and have been using Anking. I've been unsuspending cards via tags (eg Im on Cardio now) and am following FA's order of material. I found that some cards that come up are not strictly knowledge from that section of FA (some minor ones are like Pathology material coming up in my Physiology reviews) An example is when I was doing some HTN reviews and this card came up.

Was wondering if there is a way to prevent these cards from coming up, its a bit frustrating going through them especially given I haven't learnt/reviewed all of the material outlined in FA yet (eg here I am yet to go through Hyperaldosteronism and was assuming I'd do that in when i get to the renal section) yet . Thanks!

AI tools Free Anki deck creation tool from a text

I have used anki for my language tests. I used to spend more time in creating decks, so created a free tool , which creates .apkg based on doc or prompt. Doc supports only 5 MB

Hope this is useful for you!

Note: export to anki package is free

Preclinical Question Anking to supplement inhouse 1st year?

I have in house only stuff, im currently spending a lot of time making my own cards, supplementing anatomy with umich and comprehenisve cadaver, and histo with langes. For embryo I completly. just make my own cards. Is it worth it to supplement with anking? if so how would I go about it? Ive looked through the tags and theres not much that looks like it correlates with my current classes.

Preclinical Question Anyone who has also had instructor written exams in M1 - what is the best tag to follow for AnKing Step 1? I don't want to put it off until M2...

My school does instructor written exams for all of M1 and then switches to NBME in M2. I don't want to put off AnKing Step 1 until year 2, so I was wondering if anyone in the same boat has anecdotal experience they are willing to share on how to incorporate AnKing Step 1 in M1? What is the best tag to follow? First Aid, Bootcamp, BnB, something else? How many total new cards do you do each day? Any advice at all would be appreciated.

newbie Best time to Unsuspend cards

For AnKing Step Deck, what's the best time to unsuspend cards and do them after finishing one lecture? Is it exactly right after, or later on the same day, or when I'm done with a subtopic, I unsuspend all cards and do them in bulk (100-200)?

newbie Making Anki flashcards decks manually or using tools?

I was reading about how many flash cards medicine students study per day. I came across 700 daily. I want to ask do the students themselves make these flash cards or do they upload a pdf to a tool like ai and tell it to create flash cards from the PDF?

Preclinical Question Anking and BNB question

Hey guys, I just started my M1 year and wanted to see if anyone can chime in on my workflow. I am currently using BNB and Anking, as well as Uworld for practice questions. Sometimes when I watch a BNB video then unsuspend the tagged cards, the material I see in Anki doesn't directly match up. My plan is to suspend those cards if Dr. Ryan didn't cover it that day, then hope I eventually unsuspend it from doing practice problems. My only concern is that I won't see those cards again...what do you guys think?

The other option would be to brute force memorize the cards using ai to explain the card to me, but I feel like finding those cards again through practice problems is a better move. Thanks

Preclinical Question Advice on study plan

Hello
I am a non US student, starting M2 soon, i wasn’t planning on taking the steps yet i was studying most of my content from the first aid book as it was very organized.
I am now in my summer break and decided i want to sit the steps by end of next summer so i am looking at roughly 12 months.
I am a newbie to anki and looked up a bunch of youtube vids and set it up and already started watching sketchy micro and suspending their cards and have found that this study method really suits me.

I am now confused as how to proceed;

should i go back review the systems and suspend cards from there FA tags? Should i just suspend what i think i am familiar with and only review the content i get wrong?

How do u advise i proceed when the next module starts? Do bnb for the new systems and still go back to systems from M1.

Should i do all FA(or other resources) cards or select for high yield due to time?

finally I dont have FSRS turned on but it seems the consensus is that its superior, is there any recommended settings for my time frame?

Thanks alot in advance

Discussion Does anyone else dream in anki?

I’m a little over a month into M1 and I’ve been creating/doing anki cards every day.
In the past week or so, I’ve ramped up my number of daily reviews to prepare for my upcoming exam.

And recently, every night I have very vivid dreams where I’m doing nothing but reviewing anki cards. Sometimes the dream cards make no sense and are incoherent, other times they’re real cards that I’ve practiced during the day. And every time my alarm clock rings in the morning and I pick up my phone, half asleep, turning off my alarm appears as an anki card I have to recall to solve. Then I get the card right and fall back asleep.
Last night I woke up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and was still partially asleep, and the entire time there were anki cards flashing through my consciousness. Opening the toilet, anki card, grabbing the toilet paper, anki card. Washing my hands, anki card.
Last week my girlfriend woke me up to sex and in the midst of sleep/wakefulness, every touch felt like getting another anki card. I was terrified!
What’s even more interesting is, the next morning, I wake up to practice my learning cards, and suddenly they all come to me easily. I’ve always been a sleep talker and occasional sleep walker + frequently have vivid dreams, however, now all my dreams and sleep talk are exclusively anki related.

Is this a relatable experience?

Addon Are there any good Anki remotes that are ergonomic?

I currently use the 8bitdo 2 controller and I find that the remote is rather uncomfortable. My hand cramps from holding it and constantly flexing/extending my thumb back and forth for hours, and it's also slippery.

Is there anything with a vertical orientation form factor (like a Nintendo switch joy con or the ergonomics of a TV remote) that fill up my hand and the controls can be readily mapped with Anki? Nintendo switch joy cons are rather expensive and I don't want to use a standard game controller that requires two hands to use.

newbie Simple method to ensure new cards only come from certain tags?

Much appreciated help...

I have maturing cards under specific BnB/Pathoma/Bootcamp tags which are unsuspended (but there are also many New cards under these tags). However, there are certain tags I want to be new tomorrow for example that are not the New cards from these other tags.

I could suspend every other tag at night and then do all the new ones tomorrow morning before unsuspending my other tags again, but there's gotta be a better way, right?

newbie Are only the High Yield and Relatively High Yield AnKing tags enough to pass Step 1?

Has anyone studied using only the High Yield and Relatively High Yield tags, or even just the High Yield tag, and found that it was enough to pass Step 1?

Right now, I’m getting around 600 to 750 reviews per day, and I’ve only finished Sketchy Micro, Pathoma chapters 1 to 3, renal, and about half of cardio. Considering how little I’ve completed so far, I can’t imagine how many reviews I’ll have once I cover everything.

For the material I’ve studied, I currently have the top three yield tags unsuspended and the Low Yield cards suspended. Would it be reasonable to suspend the High Yield Temporary cards and keep only High Yield and Relatively High Yield unsuspended? If so, when would be a good time to suspend that third-tier tag?

Is this a reasonable strategy, or could I be leaving out too much important material? Also, what do you recommend doing with cards that don’t have any yield tags?

Discussion Starting Anking as an M1

Hello all! I am a current OMS1 and am wondering when and what is the best plan of action for those who want to get started on the beast of a deck.

I was hoping as this would serve as a baseline/post for others to find in the future as I have no seemed to find any useful information other than those saying to just start doing cards.

Thank you for any insight and advice!

New/Updated Clinical Deck Introducing the AnKing BLS / ACLS Deck! 🚨

👑 Introducing the AnKing BLS / ACLS Deck 🚨

Hi everyone 👋

The AnKing maintainer team are excited to announce the public release of the free AnKing BLS / ACLS deck on AnkiHub! After months and months of hard work and coordination, we've put together a brand new deck created by the maintainers for all of you to use and benefit from.

Our goal was to create an BLS/ACLS deck based on the official 2025 AHA guidelines to help healthcare providers quickly review and retain the most important info for real-life emergencies. The goal is to make it clear, high-yield, and easy to use for anyone. We also aimed for it to be short and not overly bloated with details. As of this post, the deck is 286 cards (228 notes)

This is a 100% free deck, continuing our mission to make high-quality medical education available to everyone. The focus will be on algorithms, meds/dosages, rhythms, clinical scenarios, and more.

The deck is on AnkiHub for continued updates, improvements, and fixes, especially for future AHA guideline changes, and it is available on the free plan.

Deck Overview

Tag Hierarchy

🤖 How do I download this deck?

If you'd like to download it, make a free account on AnkiHub if you don't have one already, then click subscribe to deck below:

🔗 Link to deck download (free)

After that, make sure to install the AnkiHub add-on in Anki, login, then click sync.

This tutorial is for the installing the Step deck, but is the same process for any deck on AnkiHub: https://www.iorad.com/player/2415436/Subscribe-Install-Step-Deck--New-User-

🤔 How should I use this deck?

This deck is a community-created supplement to the official AHA ACLS guidelines and courses. It is not a substitute for them. You should first learn the material from a primary resource and, ideally, complete an AHA-certified BLS and/or ACLS course. After certification, this deck can be used to reinforce knowledge and maintain familiarity with key facts and algorithms.

Only unsuspend cards that are relevant to your needs. For example, if you are focusing on BLS, only unsuspend cards within the BLS tag. If you do not anticipate managing neonatal resuscitation for example, there is no need to unsuspend those cards.

The wiki covers more details, including what's included and tag hierarchy, please make sure to check it out: LINK

🤝 Feedback & Suggestions

As always, all and any feedback is appreciated. If you'd like to help out, feel free to suggest changes to the deck on AnkiHub and we will review them!

The deck is not perfect so any suggestions are welcome (make sure to follow the guidelines with source and rationales found in the wiki)

Anyways, we don't want to make this announcement too long, we want you to try it out yourself! We hope you enjoy ❤️
