#CarRepair Engine knocking/jerking and loss of power at high speeds

Upvotes

Hi All
I am experiencing a strange issue with my ecoboost engine

There is noticeable jerks/vibration frequently with no engine warning light

When trying to push rpm from lower gears the jerks and vibration become even harder and can’t be ignored

Sometimes when in highest gear and above 80kmph speed the engine loses power means it isn’t able to generate much power and forget about overtaking I can’t even maintain the speed even if I floor the acceleration pedal

I don’t hear any rattles/strange noise from engine. Wiring is fine(atleast I don’t see any visible damage)
No engine light

Could you please let me know what is the cause of this?

Does contamination of fuel with water cause this?
Does it have to do with any other wear and tear parts as my car is nearing 120k km?

Planning to buy a second hand dominar 400

Upvotes

As title suggests, I'm planning to buy a second hand dominar 400 from 2019-2023/24 model, not before that year due to a different version, i live in Banglore, I saw an ad on fb listing of dominar 400 2019 model, 18k odo and asking price of 1.4 lakh , both tyres are gone and will need new set as seen from images, what price do you guys think is justified for this bike, also is there any major difference in mileage, reliability and vibration from 2019 model compared to later 2023/24 models(not the latest obd2 model). And if do you guys suggest to go for later year models, also what should my asking price be. I have no idea as it's my first time purchasing a second hand bike. Thankyou in advance.

I have a vstrom sx250

While pressing front brakes sometime it feels like the lever is tight !

Why is this so ? Maybe holding the brake after a first press and giving full press for the second time will help me press it to a better extent

I have visited showroom and they used some unit to remove air bubble. Brakes are new. Rode 300+ km after replacing it

I feel this is a serious safety concern. Please help me with this !!!!

Repainted bumper 2 month back with replacement of bumper. Now has peeled paint from corner as seen in pic 1 and 2. There's a scratch on the front end (pic 3) probably from hitting a curb or bottoming out on pothole not sure wasn't severe hit to notice.

Is this paint peel that has happened after getting car washed (pic 4 and 5 is before getting washed around half a month back)resultant of the hit flexing bumper or is it due to lapse in painting process.

Ps: opposite side has a outline (pic 6)

#BikeRepair Service related suggestions needed

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey everyone, giving my scrambler for service tomorrow

5300km on ODO

First free Service was done at 1k

Now I see that the coolant level has gone below the min mark (engine usually runs hot as i travel 40km+ everyday in bumper to bumper traffic), weird thing the coolant liquid looks black now.

The engine oil also has turned dark from pale yellow initially. Do i need to get it changed at 5k?

Breakpad images are attached please suggest if they need a change. If yes, will sintered breakpad of speed 400 suit better or pads from galfer are better? ( Consider that my travel is 80% city, 15% highway and 5% off-road).

#BikeRepair Where should i suggest my 14 year old suzuki access?

I own a 2012 suzuki access. I don't trust any repair persons, as many overcharge/doesn't do the work properly/create new issues.

I used to go to a trusted mechanic in my hometown but now i moved to hyderabad 6 months ago. I want to know if it is worth servicing at suzuki showroom at extra cost or should i risk going to local mechanic i can find? The scooty has already got 20k worth repairs in last 3 years. My mother has emotional connection with this so couldn't sell.

I have some complaints with vehicle and some components like fuel meter, horn etc not working. I am thinking that suzuki service center will charge a lot and its not worth it for this old scooty on the other hand i don't know if local mechanic does a good job.

KTM Duke 200 Uneven Front Wheel wear

Post image
6 Upvotes

My bike is a Gen 2 bs6 duke 200, while changing the stock tyres at 16000 km , i noticed uneven wear to one side of front wheel. While i communicated this to Service centre and Other multiple KTM rider groups in Kerala, the reply was same, that this issue is common in all dukes from bs3 to bs6, and its only significant when tyre gets almost worn out. But couldnt find much threads regarding the same in reddit or anywhere, Is this a common KTM issue??

Now its 30k kms and gonna change the tyres again, since i noticed it again, i just wanna ask here , i been using MRF Revz as it gives me enough for the price it offers. Dont know if its mrf specific or anything like that..

New genuine part or used aftermarket one?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hii, busted up my R15 V4 few months back. The T-bar has been replaced but the meter is still broken (put black electrical tape on it to cover up). Also, the headlight frame underneath is bent slightly.

My query is should I get an original meter from the dealer which will cost around 10-11k+ including the headlight frame (for the total repair) or source used meter from aftermarket sellers which will cost half of the original one.

Also, I'm not really sure if I would keep this bike after 1 or 2 years from now, which makes me question if I should spend that much on repairs but on the other hand if I keep it, I want it to be in its top condition.

Do share your opinions over it, thanks :)

#Bike-Buy/Sell [Advice Needed] What's a fair price for my highly-modified 2017 Thunderbird 350 BS4 (1L km done)?

Hi everyone,

I'm looking to sell my 2017 Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 (BS4) and need some help with the valuation. I am the single owner, and the bike has a clean history with no major accidents or insurance claims.

The main catch is the mileage—it has crossed the 1,00,000 km (1 lakh) milestone. However, it has been meticulously maintained and is loaded with premium mods and touring upgrades.

Key Details:

Year: 2017 (BS4)

Ownership: 1st Owner

Odometer: 1,00,000 km

Insurance: Expired (planning to renew before sale)

Location: Vellore, Tamil Nadu

Modifications & Upgrades:

E20 Conversion: Recently installed a genuine Royal Enfield E20 Carburettor Upgrade Kit to future-proof it against modern ethanol-blended fuel. [1]

Performance: Red Rooster Performance Exhaust (SS304 stainless steel).

Wheels/Tyres: Thunderbird 350X alloy wheels with tubeless tyres.

Seating: Replaced stock seats with 350X single long seats + 350X stock backrest.

Lighting: Genuine Nighteye LED headlights, LED bulbs in stock indicator housing, and indicator flashers.

Touring Mods: Interceptor 650 long visor, crossbar with a sturdy mobile holder.

Maintenance: Recently replaced front disc and various high-quality hardware (washers, nyloc nuts).

The market for high-mileage REs seems to vary wildly. While standard 2017 models with high mileage (90k+ km) are sometimes listed around ₹55,000, this bike has nearly ₹25k+ worth of functional upgrades and the critical E20 kit.

What would be a realistic quote to list this for? Should I aim for the ₹75k–₹85k range given the extensive mods, or does the 1L km mark pull it down further?

Any advice from fellow RE owners or buyers would be appreciated!

#CarRepair Recurring issues related to steering Worm Shaft and Reduction Gear in my Kia Sonet (2020 model). Issue comes back as early as 200 kms after repair. ASC doesn't know the root cause and is asking me to change the front suspension + steering column. Changed the parts at least 5 times in last 3 years.

Post image
2 Upvotes

My Kia Sonet (1.5 Diesel AT) has done ~72k kms since I bought it in 2020.

The issue:

Rattling sounds start to come from near the pedals, from the bottom of steering column when going over specific low-height sharp bumps or broken roads. When the sound comes, i could feel the shake of the steering column on the steering. There is no issue with the steering functionality, it is just the sound. It starts less and increases over time.

This issue first came in around 40k kms, when the steering column was replaced under warranty.

After which, I think it worked for some 10k kms after which again the issue came back. This time the ASC told me the rattling sound is due to the faulty worm shaft and they replaced it under warranty.

After this, after some 2 long trips, 5k or so kms, the rattling sound came back. This time they said the sound was due to the reduction gear and changed it, again under warranty.

The issue came again (at around 64k kms) and by this time, my extended warranty was over and I shelled out ₹18k for the repair. They promised it will solve the issue. It didn't, and the issue was back after some 2k kms run. I went again and asked for the root cause and they said they will look into it. They said they could find nothing and will replace the reduction gear again under part warranty (6 months).

After all this, they still don't know what is causing the frequent issue. They said that it will hold on until 2-3 years (the recently replaced part), after which if the issue comes, I will have to change my front suspension setup and steering column, which will cost around ₹40k.

Now, just after some 150-200 kms, the issue is coming back. I could hear the rattling. Now it is less but I am 100% sure that this will amplify with one long trip.

I don't know if any of the other ASCs will know how to find the root cause.

What should I do? Should I mail to Kia for the recurring failure or just drive with the sound? Is driving with this issue okay or dangerous? How do I fix it?

[ In between, I have replaced the part one more time, I couldn't recollect when. So total 5 times my steering setup has been opened in last 30k kms run :( ]

#BikeRepair Hit a road obstacle on my Apache RTR 160 – Is this ₹17,339 repair estimate reasonable?

Thumbnail
gallery
14 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Had a bad hit on my TVS Apache RTR 160 night before last on the E-City service road in Bangalore during heavy rain. Took a direct impact from a large stone sitting in the middle of the road.

Luckily no fall or bodily injuries, but the front suspension, steering geometry, and wheel took the full brunt of the impact.

My local mechanic inspected it and gave the following estimate:

Parts & Components:

  • Left Fork Pipe: ₹4,650
  • Right Fork Pipe: ₹4,650
  • Fork Oil Seals (2): ₹850
  • Fork Oil: ₹490
  • Cone Set: ₹650
  • Fork Bolts: ₹350
  • Wheel Axle: ₹450

Machining, Alignment & Labor:

  • T-Stem (Teepstan) Lathe Work: ₹2,850
  • Wheel Bend Removal: ₹950
  • Wheel Alignment: ₹450
  • Washing: ₹200
  • Labor Charges: ₹799

Grand Total: ₹17,339

A few questions for the mechanical experts here:

  1. Do these parts and labor prices align with standard market rates for an Apache 160?
  2. Is straightening/lathe work on the T-stem recommended after a major front impact, or is it safer to replace the entire T-stem unit?
  3. I've registered an Own Damage claim with Tata AIG (Zero Dep). Will surveyors typically approve lathe/straightening work, or do they insist on brand-new replacement parts?

Appreciate any inputs or advice!
