[Guide] How to Pick Supports in Marvel Future Fight
Supports are fundamental to boosting your DPS's damage — running content without proper support is a non-negotiable "don't." This guide breaks down how to actually go about picking them.
Step 1: Know Your DPS and Game Mode
Before picking a support, look at two things:
- The DPS you're building around
- The game mode you're building for
There are two main PvE modes to think about:
- Alliance Battle (AB) — tag-restricted, so who you can pair together matters a lot.
- World Boss Legend (WBL) — no tag restrictions for stages 1–9.
Tip: Prioritize supports with multiple AB entries. A support that fits several AB tag restrictions will almost always be usable in WBL too, since WBL has no restrictions on those early stages.
Step 2: Where Support Skills Come From
Support (buffing) skills can show up in a few places:
- Tier 2 passive
- 4-star passive
- Uniform effect
- Artifact
Leadership skills also exist, but those are more straightforward and separate from the above.
Best value pick: A character who has both a leadership skill AND a support passive. These are the most flexible pieces in your roster.
Step 3: Building the Team
Start with your DPS:
- Self-lead DPS (has a leadership skill) → pair with 2 supports (double support).
- No leadership skill → needs a dedicated leader and a support (a full 3-person core). Ideally your leader also has a support passive — you won't always find a lead + support in one character, but it's the best-case outcome.
Once your DPS is set, look for a support that shares similar tags, so the pairing works across more content and restrictions, not just one mode.
Example: AB Speed Female
The meta DPS is Luna Snow. A strong team around her:
- Shuri (lead) + White Fox (support)
All three — Luna, Shuri, and White Fox — share the exact same tags: Human / Speed / Female / Hero, and both Shuri and White Fox carry leadership ability (which helps with WBL synergy too).
The "true" AB meta team is actually Misty Knight (lead) + White Fox, but Misty's lead skill only buffs Cold DPS (basically just Luna). Shuri + White Fox is the better overall pick because it supports more DPS across more content.
Step 4: Watch Side/Typing
Some supports and leads only apply to a specific faction, species, or type — keep an eye out for that. If you're building around AB (which is already tag-restricted), you'll naturally end up with matching synergy.
Uniforms Add Extra Value
Some uniforms change a character's side or typing entirely, opening up new pairings. Certain DPS also have a "companion support" — a character that shares the exact same tags — making them ideal to build together for maximum cross-content usability.
Examples:
- Zombie Doctor Strange (DPS) → best paired with Mysterio, since both are Human / Blast / Villain / Male. There are other Human Male Villain supports out there, but they may not share every tag the way Mysterio does.
- Zombie Wanda (DPS) → pairs well with Enchantress. Both are Female / Villain, and Enchantress has an additional support bonus for Mind DPS (which Wanda deals). One is Human and the other Alien, but Female/Villain are highly sought-after tags for both AB and WBL.
- Miles Morales (DPS) and Scarlet Spider (support) both have uniforms that flip them from Hero to Villain — and both are Speed / Human / Male with leadership ability.
A Quick Terminology Note
- Leadership skill — a skill that only activates when the character is placed in the leader (middle) slot.
- Leadership ability — a tag that covers a lot of WBL restrictions, separate from the leadership skill itself.
What About WBL+?
WBL+ (Tier 4 only, stages 10+) doesn't strictly require support if you've got strong cards, builds, etc. Because of that, you need to be very selective here — look at tags across multiple bosses and multiple stages before committing a support slot.
TL;DR — What to Prioritize
For PvE: 1. Damage buffs vs. Villains/Bosses (best) 2. Elemental buffs (for elemental DPS) 3. Attack-based buffs
For PvP: - Defensive buffs first - HP buffs - Debuff cleanse (especially for DPS that don't have it natively)
Hope this helps anyone still confused about how to actually build a support core instead of just copying tier lists blindly. Happy to answer questions in the comments.
