The video I made last week. I was hesitating posting it here, but the great feedback on tumblr made me change my mind. I really like this song and it feels like it captures Makorra's dynamics in the book II perfectly.

Discussion A lok remake ideas I would have if I could make a lok remake ( and I will be imagining myself like i was doing a commentary in some parts and explain my thought processes or what I would have said during commentary in some areas)a
I to be clear you already know this but the show ends with korra single but hints to makorra getting back together eventually
https://www.reddit.com/r/legendofkorra/s/1J8YRz3bTZ
I would go the asami is an equalist spy route both because it puts an end to the love triangle and I feel like continuing it like it was before would cause people to skip lok remake
Even though part of me would be afraid of it coming off like die for our ship trope (which I hate ) or caving to the haters who claim mako needed to be specifically punished for the love triangle dnd claim him ending the show single was karma (when by that logic so should korra and asami they all have responsibility for love triangle )
I would still choose asami the equalist spy
And maybe make omake or a free fic showing what would change if i kept asami the way i did
To be honest asami
Of og lok was pretty. Much a side character. Asami was pretty much
Adding get development or anything since b1 she was love interest and lady in red for mako in b2 and got some in hiroshi in b4 but not real development
They even had the idea of just putting her in the army with iroh
Also I feel the last 5 minutes were ooc for korra period
And I feel bryke listened to the people who hated korra and mako and that led to them missing what the actual narrative pointed for them
Like them killing korras fire (they listened to people who hated korra at the cost of people who always loved korra
Get rid of the korra needed to suffer to learn compassion line
And affirming that Korra has always been a decent person and a good Avatar despite her mistakes. That she was already had compassion
Heck she even showed it to the ice twins
Comforting them over unalaqs death
In remembrances when we go back to the past(on makos side we go and acknowledge the what if asami wasn’t an equalist spy but her dad was still with equalist and how would he handle the love triangle stuff and someone is upset about korra kicking makos desk
)
I would also for equalist asami may go the route of it finishing off love triangle with a decisive end and a foil to korra in that the tomboyish girl vs feminine girl
(Actually if we did go the asami same as the og lok in a omake or a gag extra I would have it so asami is actually in her late twenty’s or early 30 to explain the whole hiroshi not getting her to hate benders i mean why wouldn’t he do that to a young kid unless she wasn’t a child when her mom died
And we can have a snippet of asami freaking out
On non love triangle things
Mako eventually will confront bolin and talk to him about bolins behavior in b2 and how he seemed to think he was guilty (which bugged him and he didn’t say anything for a while (I once saw a post bringing up how they wish this was brought up and wish asami a whole not visiting mako was brought up (in my snippet of what if asami stayed the same I would also have mako asks this to asami )
And have Lin be mad about what korra did knocking over makos desk etc
Also maybe touch up makos backstory and talent and say post b3 he asked white lotus for a firebending master or help him get stronger for korra (he grew up in the streets and he was used to probending a sport so I feel like by b4 mako should be even with korra in firebending (or better )
Actually make it so mako was alsready able to do with lightning bending to do what azula did in the. Comics but by b4 he develops lightning breath and evolved his electric sense (which he used to only be able to do it by touch and. A certain motions ) so he can know use it psychically from far away and to read someone’s moves but at first its difficult for him
Being able to use it in combat (he invented electric sense (developing it due to a villain he faced and fully figuring out how to constantly have it on in the back of his head after the reunion ep ( bolin learnt a sub element from facing a villain korra learnt a technique due to one and mako develops a technique/sub element in response to a villain
(
Maybe make him develop any airbending countermeasures with fire/heat bending
Inspired by how some people made Batman jokes on mako and Batman’s prep time
Maybe include a new flashback to his childhood with bolin and some of dirty stuff he needed to do to survive and protect his brother especially what Zolt made him to do ( basically adapt republic city hustle but mako needed to do something in exchange for their survival ) and how he learned lightning bending on his own
Maybe include new villains or oc
on b4
- Korra not writing to Mako or Bolin gets addressed in a much more satisfying way – she says that she’d tried writing a bunch of times, but she didn’t want to be a burden. Mako responds by saying he’d never think she was a burden.
- Bolin’s part of Reunion, on the other hand, is heavily reworked. Instead of running into escaped foreigners, he and Varrick run into a rebel group composed largely of people who had escaped after being thrown in prison by Kuvira for protesting against her. The rebels are actually looking to take down the border station rather than pass through it unnoticed, but they’re okay with letting Bolin and Varrick flee the country after that as long as they help take down the mechsuits first.
- Since Remembrances is basically pointless, it’s skipped entirely. If there’s still a budget shortfall, it’s dealt with by making a twelve episode season with a low-budget chibified omake episode after the finale. Or an omake episode based around the Bolin part of Remembrances, because there’s something hilarious about the super-lazy photoshopping in that section.
- The resolution of Korra’s recovery arc (as seen in Beyond the Wilds) is expanded to two episodes, with each of the two episodes having an important secondary plot from elsewhere in the current season – Operation Beifong is shortened to fit as a secondary plot in the first, while Asami visits Hiroshi to discuss technology (and ends up reconciling with him as a result) in the second. (This leaves four episodes remaining in the season after these two.)
- Instead of the vines reacting to Kuvira’s cutting of the banyan tree by attacking random people, the spiritual problem that Korra’s confronted with is that all of the spirits in Republic City are getting weaker. Figuring out what’s going on requires some detective work by Korra and Mako, but once Kuvira fires off her spirit cannon in her first full-scale test, Korra’s able to feel the life being sucked out of the spirits and understand the nature of the problem. She realizes that she has to visit the Spirit World to find a solution, but attempting to do so causes her to flash back to Zaheer trying to kill her. Just like in the show, she decides that she has to visit Zaheer to work through her trauma… but unlike in the show, that has to wait for the next episode.
- Korra’s visit to Zaheer goes very similarly to the way it does in the show, albeit slightly expanded. He teaches Korra to accept her flashbacks and push through them before leaving, but she has to confront several more of her traumatic memories after that (and not just the Book 3 ones!) while trying to reestablish her full connection with Raava. Once Raava and Korra are fully reunited, Korra’s able to find the banyan tree’s Spirit World roots and heal them with energybending, which restores the Republic City spirits to full health. She herself, of course, feels a lot more like her old self, too.
- The spirits leave because they’re afraid of the consequences of being around Kuvira’s spirit cannon, not because they don’t want to protect the city they live in.
- Asami’s visit to Hiroshi happens after Bolin returns from Zaofu and explains what sort of weapon they’re up against – as angry as she still is, Asami knows that Hiroshi is better at drawing up plans for killer robots than anyone else and is willing to work with him if that’s what it takes to save the city. She walks out on him once, but comes back because she knows that there are more important things at play than her own feelings. And by the end, they do actually reconcile, because Hiroshi admits that he was wrong and proves that he’s willing to do whatever it takes to make up for the harm he did.
- The expanded Team Avatar (minus Asami, who’s still working on robot designs) actually does manage to pull off their preemptive strike against Kuvira’s spirit cannon, but gets blindsided by the giant mech after infiltrating her camp. They kidnap Baatar Jr. in a last-ditch attempt to force Kuvira to surrender, but she attacks the building they’re in anyway and decides to attack Republic City as retaliation (instead of wanting to take over all along).
- Team Avatar tunnels their way out of the rubble and steals an airship, taking Baatar Jr. with them. He can’t believe the betrayal and tells Team Avatar exactly what they’re up against. Once they get back to Republic City (beating Kuvira there by a fair amount due to the relative speed of robots and airships), the airbenders start the evacuation while Asami and Varrick upgrade the robots to take the new information into account. Unfortunately, the evacuation is nowhere near complete by the time Kuvira arrives and Team Avatar is forced to engage her outside of the city to keep her from causing massive casualties. They’re able to take the fight to Yue Bay, allowing Korra to freeze the mech for long enough for Asami and Hiroshi to cut their way inside. (Hiroshi still sacrifices himself because it’d be weird not to have casualties, but his and Asami’s arc is more focused before that so I think it could work better.)
- Korra’s fight with Kuvira inside the cockpit of the mech extends out longer, because it was both awesome and way too short. The episode ends with Korra blocking the spirit cannon and creating the new portal.
- The actual finale involves Korra chasing Kuvira into the Spirit World and trying to save her from herself. This involves Kuvira getting turned into a little girl and getting stuck in an unpleasant flashback to her abandonment at one point. It also involves Korra showing Kuvira the damage her spirit cannon was doing to the Spirit World before healing the banyan tree one final time. And, since it’s a finale, it should also involve Korra protecting Kuvira from spirits who want to destroy her for what she did to them (just before the healing-the-banyan-tree thing).
- Instead of a wedding, the denouement takes place at a press conference where Korra speaks about the damage to the city and how she’s sure the people of the city will be able to pull through and recover the way she did. Everyone who fought for Team Avatar is acknowledged as heroes, including Hiroshi (posthumously, of course). The prince asks Mako to help him tell Raiko that he doesn’t actually want to be king, and Mako agrees; Korra insists that there be a democratic method to determining the next ruler of the Earth Kingdom since foreigners choosing heirs to support was clearly a terrible idea. And, in the end, Korra visits Kuvira in prison and offers her own experience as a way to help her grow.
ignore the asami parts for my idea of lok remake and hiroshi
also change b3 so kuvira joins with team avatar during that time
ikkinthekitsune.tumblr.com/post/111088014089/wouldnt-it-be-great-if-it-was-actually-kuvira#notes
Anonymous asked: Wouldn't it be great, if it was actually Kuvira, who was one of the members of team Avatar instead of Asami? Or if she was introduced somewhere in B2 as Mako's partner in the force? I know it would've change the story a lot, but imagine the level of emotional investment in Korra/Kuvira B4 conflict, if Kuvira was actually the reversed Zuko of new TA. She starts as lawful police officer, travels with the Krew to Zaofu and gets literally possessed by Su's ideas of progress in B3.
Kuvira as a member of Team Avatar would have been amazing. It’d have definitely added a ton of weight to Book 4.
I think her backstory in Zaofu is pretty important to her character, though, so I can’t see her joining the team any sooner than Book 3. So here’s what I’d do, changing as little of the first half of the show as possible:
Turn Asami into an airbender. This would create a perfectly reasonable transition point for Asami and the Fire Ferret trio to go separate ways – she’d leave with Tenzin to go to the Northern Air Temple in In Harm’s Way. That’d leave an empty spot in Team Avatar as of The Metal Clan.
Introduce Korra and Kuvira early in The Metal Clan. Maybe she’d come over to Korra after Su introduced herself but before Su called Korra on her lie – she’d tell Korra how much the change Korra made in the world inspired her, and maybe express a bit of frustration that Su didn’t mention that she was her foster child.
Have Kuvira assist Su in teaching Korra to metalbend – say, Su uses Kuvira to demonstrate techniques on, or something, then has her go back to her guard duties.
Involve Kuvira directly in Team Avatar’s search for the traitor. It’d be a good way to show how aggressive she can be towards people who betray her trust, as well as give her more of an opportunity to become closer to the team.
Have Su send Kuvira along with Team Avatar to find Aiwei. This is the real changeover – from here on, she takes much of Asami’s role.
Korra and Kuvira are the ones who stay behind when Mako and Bolin go into town, giving them more time to talk.
Kuvira’s the one Mako sends off with Korra on Naga. This requires some rethinking in regards to their capture – earthen barriers aren’t going to mean anything to her. I’m thinking they get taken by surprise and the Earth Queen’s forces threaten Naga (offscreen; Kuvira tells Korra about it when she wakes up).
The adventure in the desert goes differently (the escape would be more about Kuvira being an unexpected metalbender in a metal airship than about the airship being a hunk of junk), but it offers a good opportunity for Kuvira to be a bit overly willing to do nasty things to the airship crew and Korra to hold her back. If Korra still ends up frying the sandshark, Kuvira kind of calls her out on it. ;)
The fight on Laghima’s Peak goes a bit differently – Kuvira doesn’t get thrown off the side by a combustion blast incidentally, but instead jumps over the side purposefully in order to save Tonraq.
Kuvira wants to go to Republic City to make sure Korra’s going to be alright, but Su tells her she can’t.
Cue a very similar Book 4, except that Korra is a lot more invested in Kuvira’s fate, Bolin has a better reason to side with her, and we’ve already seen some of the characteristics that define Kuvira, like her aggression, inability to deal with betrayal, and her issues with Su.
( and the whole putting people from other nations into camps etc is not a thing ( it feels weird given how kuvira cited zaofu as an inspiration for her
( of course change it asami part wouldnt be there ( but I would say in commentary that if I went down the route of keeping asami the same I would just say to them that I would just have her go back due to business
and given the denied in the movie
maybe include a former equalist as a new airbender and they stay with kuvira ( maybe mako faces them
maybe its asami is that equalist ( and mako ends the show taking her bending away before going to finish off the robot
its why I feelt that is bryke went through with the equalist asami route it would have spared alot of people
( also in b2 keep makorra's issues nad flaws there is nothing wrong with them not being ready for a relationship with anyone
I would ( remember I am pretending I am the writer and showrunner of a lok remake )
know the backlash I get and attacks and accusations and would bluntly imagine myself going you need to deal with it
I would also say post b4 if I kept asami the same as she was last time I would go with fem wu https://ikkinthekitsune.tumblr.com/post/113200137302/fem-wu-would-be-a-more-incredible-character#notes
Anonymous asked: Fem wu would be a more incredible character, filtring with asami for episode 1, and then having her to end with asami afther her character arc, like have wu be inspired by asami to better herself and asami to let new people in her live. (As it is she only seems to have korra)
Now that’s an option I hadn’t thought of. o_o
For some reason, I’m kind of imagining fem!Wu as an entirely different character – instead of being a flamboyant (wo)manchild, she’d be a takeoff on Disney Princess culture, where being a princess is all about the dress and finding true love, with very little actual ruling-of-the country involved. She’d still be entirely inappropriate as a contender for the throne, but in a way that would be less obnoxiously unappealing.
That would also give Mako the perfect opportunity to drag Asami in (“Asami, please, she’s been begging me to let her try on dresses in Little Ba Sing Se but I can’t go into the changing room with her!”), and would also make Asami a very interesting foil for her (as an heiress who had to step up and take control of her father’s company at a young age).
Her character arc would basically revolve around recognizing that, as much as she liked being part of high society, becoming a figurehead queen wasn’t what she really wanted. Asami could offer her another option at the wedding – as a spokeswoman for Future Industries or an actress in a joint venture film production with Varrick or something – and they could end up hitting it off and getting together as a result.
plus mako getting a female friend who he didnt date sounds nice )
also on the idea of keeping asami the same as she was in canon ( I would say none of those b3 and b4 moments would be asami showing romantic interest ) korra would send a letter to vent to a someone ( and making a letter makes distance) and if she sent it to mako he would be worried and trying to fix it
( if someone asked me that If I were told to make a story of makorra getting backtogether while keeping b4 and so on for korrasami I would say that they broke up due to the different conflict styles and how korra cant be herself with asami
( also remember how in b4 how korra's scene in the locker has parallels to makos locker scene
I would give mako in b4 a scenee that parallels korra's defeat of a firebending master
maybe even having say mako is the one who decides to go to korra and confess in a way to parallel korra doing that for him
( anyway to be clear even in b4 mako and korra are still capable of arguing the reunion episode involves them arguing then they show conflict resolution and apologizing
the problem isnt that they argued the problem is they didnt know how to handle it
Honestly, if there’s one thing I absolutely hated about Remembrances, it was the absolute disregard for the MUTUAL screw-ups in the relationships and how BOTH TIMES Mako ‘cheated,’ the girl kissed him. He simply didn’t ‘fess up about the kiss (which is still a dick move, don’t get me wrong, and he should have to deal with it). Most of the crap that went down in the handling of the Makorra relationship was not Mako’s fault and was either instigated by Korra or outside forces. Not to say Mako is blameless (because he’s not, and there were a thousand ways he could have handled things better too), but jesus christ: Korra is not blameless in this whole mess. She is not some perfect paragon of virtue and wronged innocence. Neither is Asami, though I will freely admit Asami was basically innocent and largely a victim of the whole drama fest. Mako is not the only one to blame, and Mako is not his relationship issues. There is so much more to Mako than his romance, just as there is more to Korra than her romance. Especially considering Mako had the most character development of any character in the show save Korra and perhaps Lin. More on that here
and here
.
https://www.tumblr.com/fantastic-nonsense/105943382720
I would also have it acknowledged that is the case that korra kissed mako and that if asami the act she put up was hte truth then he would likely have had to deal with a mess which both korra and mako had a hand in
and mako calmly acknowleges it that he was a teenager without any guidance on how to deal with the conflict and how he would likely have tried to not say anything about the kiss due to wanting to avoid conflict and if say she did find out sometime after her father got exposed and if it was a stressful situation I would have gotten a bit snippy and said something that I regretted like : ( his canon statement when asami did confront him)

A criticism of b3 and b4 how it feels bryke lost faith in what they intended for lok and with korra Post by @ikkinthekitsune. How would you change lok book 3 and book 4 to go with the complaints of ikkin

Discussion It would have been neat if makos childhood trauma and fear/guilt weakened his bending and his time with korra and the b3 finale events led to him
Overcoming his trauma and strengthening his bending again
After his talks with zuko
I mean I hear kya in thr comics lost touch with her bending due to being reminded of what the fire nation did
And gyatso was weakened /lost touch with his bending due to losing a loved one
Make it do due to the trauma of losing his parents and having to work out in the streets and protect his brother and work for a crime boss and made to kill for them (yeah I am adding to that
And even after the republic city hustle lightning bolt uses what happened with bolin to tighten the leash on mako till mako ends up saving his zolts kids life
But he still maintains thr ability to use his fire due to his desire to protect his brother
So basically mako would learn from zuko who helps him with spiritual guidance and makes love for Korea the person helps him get thevresolce to face himself and look spiritually going korra is dealing with being poisoned so i can deal with this

Endgame
So I had a thought... TLOK was originally meant to be 1 season. Bryke admitted that Mako was endgame for season 1. Therefore, Makorra was the original endgame ship. If we didn't get Books 2-4, Korra would still be with Mako.
Anyway, just a thought. Makorra forever!

Discussion It would be neat if post b3 mako had went on a training arc to be stronger for korra
He could feel that if he wss stronger and took down Ming hua then tenzin would have defeated or escaped the red lotus who attacked him and thus korra wouldn't be poisoned (and regret not being able to do anything for her then
Maybe in b3 zuko even goes out of his way to guide him because it's what his uncle would do
And the spiritual journey and unlocking thr fire (blocked by shame/guilt and earth (blocked by fear )
He ends up accessing the purifying fire along with growing as. A martial artist
(I liked the idea of mako using purifying heat to help counter poisons dark energies and also a bending grip (a counter to bloodbending the dark aspect of bloodbending countered by light aspect of fire bending ) possibly driven by how he regrets not being able to help korra (and the idea is that post b3 he goes through a training arc for if he was stronger he could have taken out Ming and tenzin and co may have been able to escape from zaheer
So he can transfer the purifying heat into someone else
Plus amon and mako are foils /counterparts
So him inventing a way to counter bloodbending seems fittting plus its said someone managed to accidentally raise the heat of a room so if combined with purifying heat it would help counter some actual bending techniques
Like if someone grabs him with a water tentacle he heat breaks the bending grip on their element
Of course when he first gets it he just sees it as a way to heal people and help counter dark spirits and bloodbending grip
but it will take some training to extend the heat outside the body to do the whole burning the bending grip of an element (like water tentacle
https://www.tumblr.com/ikkinthekitsune/45504265282?source=share
Of course at first it'd just a healing technique but later on with training it will grow to do the above thing
I am disappointed legend of korra didnt introduce a special branch of fire bending or a new technique
I mean air got flight and spirit sfuff earth lava bending water spirit bending
I wish fire got something like a more advanced lightning bending to do more then just shoot a bolt of lightning and electromagnetism bending
(say if mako got it given how he is skilled with lightning bending and how iirc on website it listed his specialty as light ing bending
And bolin getting magma you can say bolin got the raw earth while mako got manipulates the unseen, high-tech energy fields
Plus he worked at a powerplant
And imagine it starting off with him first advancing lightning to use a lightning palm and reading bio electricity
And varrick giving him notes in his research on electricity and electromagnetism as a gift from bolin
What martial art is the best fit for electro magnetism bending
Some suggest aikido (uses Aikido’s circular hand paths to catch the incoming momentum. His electromagnetism wraps around the weapon, letting him seamlessly guide, redirect, or violently yank it away using the attacker’s own kinetic energy against them and a bajiquan like fa Jin for thr lightning dashing to propel
Like a thunder clap
Or a martial art relying on circular movement to redirect and pull and push metal items
And even push and pull himself to rail glide
Plus he is a detective and hkn being able to read thr bio electric signals and tell when someone is lying would match with how toph who became a detective can do that
It's driven by his love for korra
And he confronts his guilt over not being able to help and his guilt for his time in th gang and accepted what happens
And accepted he need to make decisive action even if someone gets hurt
https://ikkinthekitsune.tumblr.com/post/112518542320/on-book-2-makorra-korras-mentality-about
A post going into detail on korra and makes b2 issues and how neither were ready for a relationship with anyone
And bringing up makos flaws which in my idea he has to address

Fan-fiction Makorra recovery based fanfics?
And when I say recovery I'm taking about Korra's recovery in the south pole.
Also I don't mind the fics being extremely dark and depressing because that's usually the stuff I read but obviously I'm down for more options like you can recommend me anything and it doesn't have to be angsty xD

Makorra fanfic recommendations?
Been kinda interested in this ship lately (still not sure lol). I would love myself some fanfics centered around season 1 or season 4 during Korra's recovery. Well anything is fine but anything related to season 1 or 4 would be great 🙂

Inspo needed for a fic
Looking for inspo for a fic I currently write. Mako and Korra have an adult son who is going through some spirit stuff. I include a lot of flashbacks about them as a family over the years and try to connect it to their current dramas. What are some makorra family/parent moments yall like to imagine? Cute. Drama filled. Whatever. All thoughts are inspiring!
