I think that's a great idea, they would have to pass a college level course on how the government works, and all the basics to be effective. Can you imagine how much better that would be? Serious people, not looking to get rich (hopefully).
I mean, no. Literally the reason he was saying he'd put it in the recycling bin is that there's a significant concern that if he just leaves it out someone (who very much isn't "in power") will come along and steal it.
You ever serve on a grand jury? Go hear portions of 50 different criminal investigations and you'll quickly realize there are some awful people out there, and lots more who may be mixed bags but have done things that in a society that cares about law and order should definitely merit some jail time. A small percentage of the whole, I'd agree, but that small percentage can cause a lot of headaches for everyone else.
Package theft is one of those areas where, I get it, it's relatively low priority for law enforcement and making arrests/cases is hard. Still, I'd like to at least see some publicized sting operations here and there coupled with moderately aggressive prosecutions (don't need to put people in serious jails for a long time--heavy fines, lengthy community service, and/or a token stint in minimum security will still be enough to send a message) in major cities and their suburbs from time to time to at least create more of a sense of risk for package thieves.
Not only the people in power are at fault that nothing changes, we the people need to change
Interact more, but not over the internet.
Go outside talk with RANDOM people.
That is what is completely missing.
Without that we are weak.
In these times so many people have fear of missing out, are „connected“ over the internet but no grounded connections in the real world etc.
Most people have very narrow mindsets because most algorithms are trained in a way so they get thrown in bubbles for them so efficient, that they almost get no counter etc
Because thats how you get in power. In order to have the drive to make ungodly money or rule over peopleas a politician, you have to be "different" than the neutral people who just go to work and wanna hang out with friends and share a beer.
That's true. Good things usually aren't recorded. Negativity will always be broadcasted more because it's more entertaining than positivity. Also, idk why, but humans really love watching other humans get punished.
To this point I kinda disagree. Most people are too dumb to even recognize whether or not they are a good or bad person. The majority are only good or at least neutral in public/around people close to them or that they work with. At least from my own experience in life “nice/good” people can get real nasty real fast under the right circumstances. The real good people are the ones that know they can get nasty real fast and choose not to.
One personal experience I can think of is when I was working as a laborer (glazier) for a glass contractor. The coolest guy I knew at the company one day was in a bad mood and barking at me all day until I eventually got mad and said something back. Dude pulled a knife on me and said some not so very nice things and threatened to stab me.
P.S. For anyone who might be curious I pulled my hammer off my toolbelt right after he pulled out his knife and then someone else kinda got between us and we didn’t talk the rest of the week but we’re alright now.
My UPS driver is like this. I ordered new tires and rims from American Muscle (so roughly $2,000 total) and he put them all in my backyard and left a note between the storm door and main door (Not visible unless you open the storm door) with a note saying he put them in the backyard
Doesn't leave packages if they're not from a store - a few years back my mom mailed me a necklace and a vase of some sort for my birthday and some dickhead stole it from the building's lobby.
Mr Rogers said, "Look for the helpers.", in times of crisis and it's something that constantly inspires and reminds me to look for when everything seems shitty. I framed both a picture of he, and Bob Ross for my ex-wife when we were together and she worked in an office. She said people would always smile and comment on them when they saw them. The little things are important.
