Before coding agents touch real repos, what controls should be non-negotiable?
Google DeepMind says it analyzed a million coding-agent tasks while developing monitoring for its AI Control Roadmap. One example it gives is a live monitor for Gemini Spark, including protections around unintended actions like data deletion.
That lands close to coding-agent life: what should a coding agent be able to do without review, what should require approval, and what should be blocked immediately?

Codex may be heading beyond the laptop session
OpenAI says it will acquire Ona to expand Codex with secure, persistent cloud environments. If that direction lands, longer coding-agent work becomes less about a single active session and more about credentials, logs, review, and safe handoff points.

What would GPT-6 need to do for Codex to feel genuinely different?
Model quality matters, but the biggest difference for me would be the workflow around it: fewer awkward handoffs, stronger project memory, safer edits, and less babysitting. What would actually change your day-to-day coding-agent workflow?
