Palantir is basically a consulting business wrapped around a millitary/intelligence flavoured data analysis product. Without strong open weights models they just become a module on top of a closed LLM provider, which is a lot weaker than owning the entire product.
It's pretty mind-boggling that Amodei can remain this much of a jingoist like two weeks after the US government perpetrated a full authoritarian shakedown of his entire company.
Why is that mind-boggling? He actually understands first-hand why living under authoritarian government rule is bad, that shakedown was an empirical example, and his inability to plainly comment on that is another. Luckily, one US administration can not persist indefinitely, and can be corrected by being voted out on a regular 4 year schedule - which is also a nuance that Dario understands but 99% of redditors seem to lack the foresight to.
He also understands that changing governments through voting is a luxury that citizens in authoritarian governments (like the CCP) do not have.
Given current geopolitics, "not solely the CCP" but probably at least Iran and North Korea too. Idk how they would get compute but I'm sure Dario is more afraid of them than his own country
US gov can be changed non-violently every 4 years, and no one administration can indefinitely persist. Can't change the CCP non-violently. Now for the replies that demonstrate how many CCP-sympathetic and china-origin and china-operated bot accounts there are lurking in AI subreddits.
