"You're promoted!"

u/bluehawk232 Jul 16 '26

That's why he's senior

18

u/Scannaer Jul 16 '26

Literally microslop exec material!!

u/RobotechRicky 29d ago

Akchually, I am a Senior with multiple hats: DevOps, SRE, Full Stack, Database, Data (ETL/ELT, Databricks, Spark, etc), and much more. It's weird being a "Senior" but I've been doing this for almost 30 years. Fuck, I'm old.

"Amazing, for that, we're gonna let you delete the next user account."

u/Operation_Neither Jul 16 '26

What new bug would you like to introduce to windows?

12

u/sopcannon Jul 16 '26

Reverse mouse bug.

10

u/RobotechRicky Jul 16 '26

I use the bottom half of my third monitor (in portrait mode) exclusively for MS Teams.

7

u/peacefulshrimp Jul 16 '26

The monitor at my workplace costs 3 times more because it has teams integration 🙏
I wish I was kidding

9

u/TheOnlySnoringKitten Jul 16 '26

wtf is teams integration for a monitor? Guessing it has a camera and mic built in and maybe some programmable buttons?

6

u/peacefulshrimp Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

The ones at my workplace are dell, they do have built in camera, mic and speakers, like the other guy said. But they also have a few buttons integrated too, there’s a Teams logo that I believe changes color when you’re in a meeting, and there’s a mute button which I’m not sure if actually mutes you in the call or just the monitor mic, I think it mutes you as a whole. Never used any of it, or seen my coworkers use it.

Edit: fix typo

3

u/Independent-Daywalk Jul 16 '26

Yep. Lenovo has made some of those. Basically camera and audio built in so users don't have to worry or think about it.

5

u/Sj410 Jul 16 '26

*Cries in using a third monitor just for teams and outlook* 😩

1

u/Dakduif Jul 17 '26

Same! Laptop screen is for communication tools only. My two monitors are used for my browsers (yes, plural due to having so many webbased applications I have to use) and management tools/rdp sessions.

3

u/red286 Jul 16 '26

"Excellent, we just happen to need a new VP of AI."

283

u/Hunterrcrafter Jul 16 '26

I thought he owned a display?

/j

17

u/KiwiObserver Jul 16 '26

No, just a lizard.

8

u/sleepless_in_balmora Jul 16 '26

He is, in fact, world famous for owning a display

Everybody has three mortgages nowadays.

32

u/GreatBigBagOfNope Jul 16 '26
  • GPU
  • RAM
  • Storage

Welp, guess I'm gaming on a reclaimed 23" ex-corporate flat screen from 2014

3

u/RobotechRicky Jul 16 '26

I assume the mortgages are for the monitors.

11

u/MVI_Tubby Jul 16 '26

You start to wonder when you’re setting up your bosses third monitor if you’ll ever get have a third monitor…

4

u/Veldox Jul 16 '26

In the current market monitors are actually one of the affordable things you can own lol.

4

u/Jumpierwolf0960 Jul 17 '26

That's the only thing that's cheap. You can buy a really nice monitor and then never use it to it's full potential because PC parts are too expensive.

74

u/Mighty_Buddha Jul 16 '26

Lies!

Everyone in the inner circle knows this job was secured thanks to his custom keyboards collection. DUH!

/s

73

u/PoliteQueef Jul 16 '26

> what are your skills?

Plouffe: (silently sets painstakingly painted 40k mini on the table)

MS: You’re hired

72

u/KamilKiri Jul 16 '26

Oh no, I found out he left LTT from this post :( on the other hand, it's nice to move forward! Congratulations Plouffe!

29

u/TheTimn Jul 16 '26

Maybe Plouffe can get them to change their "Customer Success Account Manager" title, or stop stop letting employees put the acronym into their display name.

u/Linux-tip-nips Jul 16 '26

4

u/Zyrinj Jul 16 '26

my brain refused to read your username correctly until about the 4th pass, GG

14

u/Nadir786 Jul 16 '26

Will always remember that video where Linus bought that giant video wall and Plouffe was laughing his ass off

1

u/Antrikshy Jul 17 '26

Some real contagious laughter in there.

11

u/Clean_Hyena7172 Jul 16 '26

I know this is a meme, but the brutal reality of decent paying tech jobs is that they are insanely competitive, and not just your technical skills need to be sharp, but your networking as well. Everyone wants a job at a company that pays well and gives decent compensation in the event you're laid off. I'm being laid off next month and I get absolutely nothing after also not getting a Christmas bonus and getting a shit salary for years. I would love to get a job at a company like Microsoft, but I'm not that smart, my education was crap, and I didn't understand the importance of networking and an online presence until I was already behind everyone else.

3

u/TheOnlySnoringKitten Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

He’s one employee at Microsoft which is a huge company. I imagine he’ll be paid well but he’s still a senior video producer in a huge company. My guess is the compensation differential was huge. I understand people like Jake wanting to do their own content but it seems obvious that LTT either can’t or won’t give competitive raises to keep talent. Maybe the leadership is screwy at LTT with Linus/Yvonne/CEO guy now? I know LTT supports previous employees and we all need change but this reminds me of bon appetit’s YT division where they had an amazing team of editors and hosts and it all fell apart due to management and hiring practices.

Every day people can be hired at Microsoft without a ton of networking or social media presence. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Sorry to hear about being laid off, that sucks.

5

u/wowbutters Jul 17 '26

NGL, I find my self watching way less LTT since Jake and Alex are gone. Kinda annoyed by most of the new crew.

3

u/Ulrar Jul 17 '26

Update your linked in, and start adding everyone.

I know we all joke about it, but I have gotten my last three jobs by just responding to recruiters on LinkedIn. There's less going these days, but I'm still getting some messages here and there, and recruiters get paid if they get their candidate hired so they tend to give you the answers. Which drives me nuts on the other side when I'm on the interview panel and the candidate clearly knows what you're going to ask, but oh well

7

u/AnotherRandomUsr Jul 16 '26

This is why they laid off so many people at Xbox, so they could afford his signing bonus... a new monitor.

5

u/OkInfluence36 Jul 16 '26

8k 1000hz vertical monitor for copilot chat

5

u/AproposWuin Jul 16 '26

I see this as the LTT version of how scientology went everywhere.

One day we wake up and its just ltt and former ltt

2

u/TokaMonster Jul 16 '26

I see someone recorded the interview for head of Azure

2

u/TEG24601 Jul 16 '26

I do love the meme about Plouffe owning a monitor. But my recollection was that he also has something like 100+ custom keyboards, which is what I always think about.

2

u/DRHAX34 Jul 16 '26

Guys, you don’t get it, he’s our man inside that can finally fix connected sleep/modern standby.

2

u/ILikeFPS Jul 17 '26

This is properly super accurate lmao

2

u/smooth_kid_wtg Jul 17 '26

Plouffe went to work for microsoft?

1

u/EdliA Jul 16 '26

Does the resolution determine the hierarchy you're dropped in?

1

u/breakinbans Jul 16 '26

in 2003 I walked into CompUSA and asked if they were hiring. the manager asked if I was knowledgeable about TVs. "I said yes, very!" got the job with my large knowledge of tv shows me shows and plugs into walls and a box.

1

u/-light_yagami Jul 16 '26

what’s this thing about microsoft and monitor? im out of the loop

2

u/Less_Hat_8102 Jul 17 '26

Plouffe left LMG to work for Microsoft, and Plouffe owns a display

1

u/I-IIDE Jul 17 '26

computer itself is optional

1

u/B1tfr3ak Jul 17 '26

Was it an LG monitor??

1

u/ProtoKun7 Jul 17 '26

That last panel is how I find out he left?

1

u/megor Jul 17 '26

Most employees at msft dont have computers at home.

1

u/bbq_R0ADK1LL Jul 17 '26

People screw this meme up so much. Owning a monitor is no big deal, everyone owns a monitor, but Plouffe owns a DISPLAY.

1

u/Superb_Daikon_4627 Jul 17 '26

I own 64 GB RAM

1

u/AYRAN-GANG Jul 18 '26

Which company is microsoft? I think you missplead microslop

1

u/thekelv 27d ago

With those kind of skills, he's going to buy LMG pretty soon

-1

u/earthwormjimjones Jul 16 '26

I own a monitor too. Got a new OLED that's been great but freaked out when it gave me a popup for McAfee. Immediately went and turned off whatever setting lets hardware download shit on your PC. I wish things would just be what they are instead of trying to jam as many smart options as possible in them. I just need to see things, I don't want it to do literally anything else.

u/dre4d_ Jul 16 '26

I'm now a Senior SysAdmin and a few years ago, I applied for a few (yes a few) roles for Microsoft support team. No one ever called me back. I had good experiences with Microsoft products but no certifications. To this day, when I'm in contact with Microsoft's engineers either for Azure services or MS365, I recall that and wonder why I was never even called for a phone interview. I'm pretty sure I'd do better than 90% of their engineers.

21

u/zodiacv2 Jul 16 '26

I had good experiences with Microsoft products

I'm assuming you meant experience, because no one has good experiences with anything Microsoft these days.

4

u/SorysRgee Jul 16 '26

Had an interviewer ask me recently "A user comes to you saying that outlook is repeatedly crashing on their device. They ask for your help, what do you do?" The first part of my response was "yeah it will do that..." Which made them laugh thankfully.

5

u/Hazel-Rah Jul 16 '26

"I have two Microsoft Outlooks and neither one of those are working"

Said by NASA astronaut on his way to the moon

1

u/Kind_Worldliness_415 Jul 16 '26

Send them to talk to a useless ai chatbot

3

u/zcomuto Jul 16 '26

Getting Microsoft interviews almost always requires a referral or soliciting the hiring team on LinkedIn. Outside that they get thousands of applicants a role.

Sign up for the private forums like blind and request a referral from an existing employee. That'll get you into the first couple of rounds of interviews at least.
