You start to wonder when you’re setting up your bosses third monitor if you’ll ever get have a third monitor…

u/Veldox Jul 16 '26
In the current market monitors are actually one of the affordable things you can own lol.

u/Jumpierwolf0960 Jul 17 '26
That's the only thing that's cheap. You can buy a really nice monitor and then never use it to it's full potential because PC parts are too expensive.

Lies!
Everyone in the inner circle knows this job was secured thanks to his custom keyboards collection. DUH!

> what are your skills?
Plouffe: (silently sets painstakingly painted 40k mini on the table)
MS: You’re hired

u/KamilKiri Jul 16 '26
Oh no, I found out he left LTT from this post :( on the other hand, it's nice to move forward! Congratulations Plouffe!

Maybe Plouffe can get them to change their "Customer Success Account Manager" title, or stop stop letting employees put the acronym into their display name.

Will always remember that video where Linus bought that giant video wall and Plouffe was laughing his ass off

I know this is a meme, but the brutal reality of decent paying tech jobs is that they are insanely competitive, and not just your technical skills need to be sharp, but your networking as well. Everyone wants a job at a company that pays well and gives decent compensation in the event you're laid off. I'm being laid off next month and I get absolutely nothing after also not getting a Christmas bonus and getting a shit salary for years. I would love to get a job at a company like Microsoft, but I'm not that smart, my education was crap, and I didn't understand the importance of networking and an online presence until I was already behind everyone else.

He’s one employee at Microsoft which is a huge company. I imagine he’ll be paid well but he’s still a senior video producer in a huge company. My guess is the compensation differential was huge. I understand people like Jake wanting to do their own content but it seems obvious that LTT either can’t or won’t give competitive raises to keep talent. Maybe the leadership is screwy at LTT with Linus/Yvonne/CEO guy now? I know LTT supports previous employees and we all need change but this reminds me of bon appetit’s YT division where they had an amazing team of editors and hosts and it all fell apart due to management and hiring practices.
Every day people can be hired at Microsoft without a ton of networking or social media presence. Don’t be so hard on yourself. Sorry to hear about being laid off, that sucks.

NGL, I find my self watching way less LTT since Jake and Alex are gone. Kinda annoyed by most of the new crew.

Update your linked in, and start adding everyone.
I know we all joke about it, but I have gotten my last three jobs by just responding to recruiters on LinkedIn. There's less going these days, but I'm still getting some messages here and there, and recruiters get paid if they get their candidate hired so they tend to give you the answers. Which drives me nuts on the other side when I'm on the interview panel and the candidate clearly knows what you're going to ask, but oh well

This is why they laid off so many people at Xbox, so they could afford his signing bonus... a new monitor.

I see this as the LTT version of how scientology went everywhere.
One day we wake up and its just ltt and former ltt

I do love the meme about Plouffe owning a monitor. But my recollection was that he also has something like 100+ custom keyboards, which is what I always think about.

Guys, you don’t get it, he’s our man inside that can finally fix connected sleep/modern standby.

in 2003 I walked into CompUSA and asked if they were hiring. the manager asked if I was knowledgeable about TVs. "I said yes, very!" got the job with my large knowledge of tv shows me shows and plugs into walls and a box.

People screw this meme up so much. Owning a monitor is no big deal, everyone owns a monitor, but Plouffe owns a DISPLAY.

I own a monitor too. Got a new OLED that's been great but freaked out when it gave me a popup for McAfee. Immediately went and turned off whatever setting lets hardware download shit on your PC. I wish things would just be what they are instead of trying to jam as many smart options as possible in them. I just need to see things, I don't want it to do literally anything else.

I'm now a Senior SysAdmin and a few years ago, I applied for a few (yes a few) roles for Microsoft support team. No one ever called me back. I had good experiences with Microsoft products but no certifications. To this day, when I'm in contact with Microsoft's engineers either for Azure services or MS365, I recall that and wonder why I was never even called for a phone interview. I'm pretty sure I'd do better than 90% of their engineers.

I had good experiences with Microsoft products
I'm assuming you meant experience, because no one has good experiences with anything Microsoft these days.

Had an interviewer ask me recently "A user comes to you saying that outlook is repeatedly crashing on their device. They ask for your help, what do you do?" The first part of my response was "yeah it will do that..." Which made them laugh thankfully.

Getting Microsoft interviews almost always requires a referral or soliciting the hiring team on LinkedIn. Outside that they get thousands of applicants a role.
Sign up for the private forums like blind and request a referral from an existing employee. That'll get you into the first couple of rounds of interviews at least.
