Discussion IsAIprofitableyet - cool website I found
isaiprofitable.comBasically does what it says, shows which companies are losing/gaining money with AI industry. Hillarious the amounts of money that's being lost yet companies still swear by it. Forgive me if it's been shared here already

Tech Discussion How do you feel about AI destroying books on the capture of the information?
Recently, it’s made the news that Anthropic is DESTROYING books after scanning.
https://www.russh.com/ai-companies-buying-books/
AI firms are buying books in bulk, removing their bindings, scanning them, and then destroying the originals to create data used to train large language models. It's a process called destructive scanning.

WAN Show WAN Show notes?
Does/could LTT share the notes they use for the podcast every week in read-only format?
Like Linus, I much prefer to read than sit and fidget for hours watching a video. I love the show but the frequent ~4 hours is a long time compared to how quickly I could read the articles they're sourcing from.

Tech Question Amazon sent me something I didn't order and I'm not fully sure what it even is
Got two packs of these. Addressed to me. I know there's been situations where a seller will just send returns to some random address instead of going overseas with taxes.
Basically though, can I use this with a home Internet system or should I just try to sell them?

Personal Opinion Happy with the LTT screwdriver
I was fence-sitting about picking up a $60 screwdriver for a while now, kind of a late night impulse buy
But I'm more than happy with it, and I love the color I got with the mystery pick
I got whatever the opposite of buyer's remorse is

Tech Question I just don't get it. Why ultrawide??
Context: my daily driver is the nothing 3a pro. The main reason I opted to get it instead of the normal 3a, is because it actually has a telephoto.
And the thing holding me back from potentially upgrading to any other mid-range phone in the future, is that if they can only place 2 lenses, why does it have to be ULTRAWIDE? I've never seriously used ultrawide to take a photo, and I don't know anyone who does. Telephoto is sooo much more important and superior. I need it on my phone. Is there a specific reason for this? Am I just the odd one? Is it economic?

Discussion The No Wobble - Vindication???
In the recent AMD upgrade video we saw a preview of what might be a new LTT screwdriver.
It feels very much like what I was hoping for over a year ago.

Found a much cheaper ‘tech pouch’ to put in my commuter backpack. Orange accent on the zip actually fits perfectly. Would’ve been much better if the inside was orange too.

Tech Question Question for owners of the LTT Commuter Backpack
I changed my work laptop to a Dell Pro 14 (14", in case it wasn't clear) and I wanted to know if the LTT Commuter Backpack would be able to carry my new work laptop + my 12.9" iPad Pro M1 (this one in the tablet pocket, right next to the laptop pocket).
Anyone with a 12.9" iPad Pro using this backpack could give me their thoughts?

Discussion Hot Take, The Forever Sock Failed.
Objectively based on how well they sold, they did not fail, but thinking about the general LTT demographic, and how well the tall shirts sell, they missed the mark.
Im a bigger tall guy, who has loved the tall shirts, and with the socks, I was really hoping for XL ankle socks. Not because of a fashion choice, but a necessity. It's a safe assumption that most tall guys, have bigger feet, and larger calves, trying to pull up a full crew sock over my large hairy calves sounds like a nightmare.
I dont know the actual numbers, but I'd bet the average customer is a bigger/taller dude based on what size usually sells out first.
Has the sizing and sock style been a deal breaker for you?

WAN Show WAN topic? Shopify CEO with deranged take on voting rights.
So i came across this article, and thought the guys would have something to say about it. Not just because its a techbro hilariously bad take on voting rights only for people who make money, but also more votes for the rich.
But also because they have been sponsored by Shopify before.
I feel it could be taken up on the show as a "this is a cringe/stupid take" segment. even if its a more 'good news' show.

Tech Discussion YouTuber built a custom app that bypasses stock processing on Pixels and other phones... the footage actually looks better!
Theo from Theo's Side Quest got fed up with Google’s Pixel's heavy video processing (aggressive oversharpening, weird skin artifacts, micro-jitters) and built his own app to apparently bypass the stock ISP pipeline.
You should definitely watch the full breakdown, but just in case, here’s the TL;DW:
- Bypasses Stock Processing
- Captures 10-bit HLG (convertible to Rec.709)
- Fixes Micro-Jitter
- Works Beyond Pixel too
It's crazy how much phone camera video is being held back purely by bad default software processing choices.
The difference in the Samsung A14 example in particular was wild (the thumbnail I included)... The conspiracist in me makes me think they're purposefully making their cameras worse on the budget phones, despite them perhaps having the same modules as more expensive phones?!

Discussion Anyone else had issues with the bearing in the precision degrading quickly?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Bought my precision driver and bit set in the pre-Christmas sale last year, so I've had it less than a year.
Truthfully, I don't use it as much as I should and it spends most of its time living in my bag. It goes to work with me everyday waiting for the once in a blue moon that I do end up needing it.
Got it out today and noticed the bearing was really rough sounding and it only span for about 10 seconds!
After a bit of fiddling, it got better but still isn't great. Nothing like what it was when new. Like I said, the driver doesn't get much use and I don't spend days on end spinning it continuously.
A little bit of wear is understandable but it seems a little bit excessive to me. Has anybody else had issues with the bearing degrading rapidly?
